The latest and greatest just got lighter.

The VaporLock Magnetron Carabiner pairs Black Diamond's lightest locking design with the latest innovations for the modern alpine climber. Magnetron technology uses magnets on both sides of the gate for a secure locking system that stays secure for seasons of sandy, snowy sending. The VaporLock's unique shape increases friction while rappelling with twin or half ropes, and is compatible with munter hitches if you're using ropes skinnier than 9.5mm. Black Diamond designed this carabiner with a keylock nose for snag-free convenience.

    Fidget issues

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Once you have it, you can't stop won't stop. The satisfying click and snap of the lock is just soothing and entertaining. People around you might hate it or lean closer for a better listen. It's surprisingly solid for this lock function and ends up being quite reassuring. Click away but NOT WHEN YOU ARE BELAYING

    Clicky Click

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is a really nice biner to belay with. I like not having to worry about if I remembered to lock the biner. I have heard though that these can get dirty and fail to close but I only use it indoors so obviously wouldn't have this issue.
It is also super satisfying to click it when I'm feeling fidgety.

a worthy addition to any climber's rack

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

If you have hesitations about buying these like some of my friends do, I recommend going for it! Very well-designed and trustworthy. I don't use it for master points or anchor building. It's my belay/rappel biner.

    Best Locker

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I hate to say it, but....
I have rappelled a route more than once without twisting my locker.
I have clipped into a master point without twisting my locker.

With the magnetron, this is a concern of the past. The magnetron is one less piece of safety concern I have, and it is worth every penny. The vapor lock is much more preferred than the rock lock strictly due to weight and ability to clip into chains. I use a Rock Lock for belaying, but that is about it.

    Easy to use

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Locks easily and is great for one hand operation, I use it in the climbing gym and it has worked flawlessly. I've heard others say that if sand or ice gets in between the locking mechanism that it wont close so it may not be that great outdoors but I haven't personally tested that myself so take it with a grain of salt.
