    Awesome Harness

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Such a great harness, very comfortable and the adjustable leg straps are very convenient. Black Diamond harnesses do seem to run a bit smaller than other brands such as Petzl I've noticed, I wear a medium in this harness whereas I'm a large in the Petzl Luna harness.

    Best of 3 I tried

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I tried one three harnesses to find the one with the best fit to replace my old & dirty BD Lotus. My criteria are hanging comfort, easily accessible gear loop and large gear loop. My uses are mainly sport climbing and some shorter trad climbs.
    1. Edelrid Solaris: GREAT leg loop comfort, but the waist belt is so wide, when hanging sometimes the top edge of the waist belt digs into my back. Good sized gear loop, but considering the bulkiness of the whole harness, it's not very packing friendly.
    2. Camp Supernova: Comfort is okay, the leg loop on the inner thigh digs a little bit when hanging. I got a small size waist seems to be on the smaller side since the gear loops are lob-sided, but the legs are cinched all the down but still a little big. Because one side of gear loop is kind of behind my back, makes it not so easy accessible. Gear loops are quite large.
    3. BD Lotus: Very comfortable when hanging. The leg loops don't dig. The gear loops are smaller but all four are centered. Sticking with the Lotus.

    Much Love

Great female winter harness. Has all the features you'd look for in a winter harness to haul ice gear comfortably and safely. Fits comfortably, but minimally. I did size up with how the harness sizes- I'd typically wear an XS with easily some wiggle room despite being sized down as much as possible, but I did have to purchase a small to get this harness to fit properly. I'm 5'0' and 105 lbs.

    Lotus Love

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I am roughly 5'10 and 145 lbs. This harness fits well, and I love that the legs are adjustable. It is comfortable and has ample gear loops. Seems to be holding up well after nearly 9 months of use. No complaints! I would highly recommend this product.

Great Gift for the Climber in your Life

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Got this sucker for my sister, an avid climber. She needed a new harness setup and I surprised her with this one for Christmas. So far she loves it. Her initial impression was that it was slightly small and not very bulky, but after using it ended up loving it. Have not had it for a while, but with Black Diamond you can trust that it is high quality.

    Awesome Harness

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

While I'm still super green, my climbing partners are more advanced and the better part of my free time is spent climbing now, so I didn't want to outgrow it quite as easily as some reviews on Primrose/etc go. My Lotus is getting used for TR in the gym about 3x and outdoors 1x a week for now. I'm not leading too much with it yet but my draws sit where I like and within easy reach, and it get's the job done.

More often than not I have poor luck with women's specific gear and lean towards sizing down in men's, but after borrowing my boyfriend's old Petzl Corax for a few months I new I needed something actually cut for ladyhips. (If you're less curvy/more boxy, this might not be your priority.) Lotus sits at just the right angle. Sizing wise, I originally worried a medium would be tight but it's roomy if anything- 4 season perks I guess! For shorts/leggings I have to cinch the waist all the way down and the leg loops are about halfway. It probably runs pretty true to size but that's something to be aware of. It doesn't pack down quite as small as Corax/Adjama harnesses in our group do, but it feels a little more hearty and I do feel safe/confident with it.

Brass tacks? It's heavy duty quality if you're not just a gym junkie, there's plenty of room for your jangle, and it's super pretty (let's be real- we all know that you climb harder when you feel fierce). I went back and forth on a few models wishing I could try things on in person and get a feel for what I liked, but looking back I don't know why this wasn't an easy decision- I would recommend the Lotus no questions asked.

This harness does ALL the things

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

This little lady is awesome for the lady who likes to get down to business. Unlike many women's harnesses, you don't have to sacrifice function for a comfortable female oriented design. It has all the gear loops for your knick-knacks and jingle-jangleys, and a 12 kN rated haul loop to bring up all your snacks, allowing you to crush them pitches.

Plus, while it's comfy to spend all day in during long multipitch climbs, it's also streamlined enough for sending your latest sport proj. Not recommended for boulders, though.

Could use a little more padding, but...

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got this as a loaner harness, and so far it has only used it for repelling. The consensus is, "it could use a little more padding, but so far it's pretty comfy to use for repelling". The leg straps are really easy to adjust, I would recommend it!

    Loving my Lotus

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I absolutely adore the fit, feel, and power of my Lotus.

The pros to this harness are the comfort of it's fit. Prior to this harness I would have issues finding one that did not cut my legs or hurt in certain areas. This harness has proved to be the most comfortable for me.

As well as it's feminine fit, I appreciate it's abrasion patches. Top roping at Stoney and rubbing against sandstone with my previous harness (CAMP Super Nova) proved to wear it down easily. The Lotus is still holding its own even after a few rub downs with Stoney's stones.

When hooking on your gear to this harness it feels as if you are still balanced even if you distribute your weight slightly unevely. Again the fit on the waist is magnificent.

The only cons I could possibly find are the lack of color options but that reason in itself is not a reason to miss out on this lovely Lotus harness.

Cannot wait to try it on ice since it is a four season harness!

My Uses: Top Roping, Lead, Sport climbing, Gym, & Outdoor.
Pros: nice and light, medium pack, multiple gear loops, fit
Cons: not as compact-able as the Arc'teryx 395

    Long Term Commitment

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

A friend who is in the climbing biz guided me to purchase this harness as I get going in the climbing world. It's just the right size that I am comfortable and feel secure in it in the gym, but would also be okay to put on a few layers and go ice climbing. The stitching has proven solid and there doesn't appear to be any defects or weak points in the harness that would prove a safety risk!

Loop seems to be sewn wrongly

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have bought this harness 2 months back after I picked up sports climbing. Was really happy when it came, and didn't notice anything wrong with it. Recently I started going for classes and the instructor noticed that the loop (where we hooked on the caribeaner) was hooked to the waist belt rather than the external waist loop. See photo for my explanation. That's when I realized it's loop wrongly. This seems like a manufacturing defect? Wondering if this is a cause for concern?

Loop seems to be sewn wrongly

    Hey Lina,
I don't have this harness myself - I was looking at maybe buying it as a gift for someone because it's similar to an older style BD harness that I have. That definitely doesn't look good though...If you haven't spoken to backcountry or BD yet I would. Good on, for your instructor noticing - sounds like they're paying good attention to safety :)

Hey Lina! That may be a defect with the harness. It looks like they completely missed the external waist loop. This may be a cause for concern especially if you fall on a climb and swing your waist is left without support. It might also lack the ability to distribute the weight properly on a climb. Email BC or BD they should b able to provide you with a nondefect harness.

    Girls Climb Ice Too

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When I went looking for a harness with ice clipper slots that would fit a female-specific waist and hip shape, I had a really hard time finding options, especially reasonably priced ones! I finally ended up with the Lotus and have had it for almost a year now. I've used it for rock and ice climbing, and at the gym, and I'm really happy with it!

It's adjustable enough that I can go from indoor or warm weather climbing to lots-of-layers ice climbing without any trouble. It's comfortable enough to work a project (though I'm not sure I'd want to do a hanging belay in it). While it's not the coolest harness in the world, it is cool enough to perform decently for 4 seasons, even in Virginia summers. 4 gear loops plus 4 ice clipper slots and a full strength haul loop in the back round out this harness...and even when it's fully loaded it doesn't get uncomfortable. It doesn't even show too much wear and tear despite my crazy love of offwidths and chimneys.

BD could've phoned it in given the lack of 4-season harness options for women, but they didn't...they did a really good job on this one!

    Girls Climb Ice Too

    Great 4 Season Harness

I gave this as a gift... But with that being said Black Diamond makes some great harnesses and this is one of the few light weight women's specific harnesses you'll find with adjustable leg loops. It is fully featured, more so than most other Women's harnesses out there.

It has 4 full gear loops, plus one large one in back for the important bits at the belays. Ice clipper spots and adjustable leg loops round out this as a nice 4 season ice climbing harness. And a rated haul loop round it out for anything you would want to do with it short of big walls.

      Solid harness

My wife is a big fan of her Lotus harness. It's been comfortable for sport climbing, multi-pitch trad climbs, and even canyoneering. It has plenty of space for your typical climbing gear, and enough padding to be comfortable, but it is still light and manageable.

For anything short of big wall climbing, it's a great choice.

        Top Rope Toughin' it

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This harness is an upgrade from my janky, overused primrose that I gave to myself as a birthday gift. It's ultra comfy, doesn't give too many wedgies, has plenty of gear loops and is just overall awesome. I particularly love the adjustable leg straps.

Here I am top rope tough guying in City of Rocks with my new BD Lotus.

        Top Rope Toughin' it

        Safe and Secure

        • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I got this harness as a replacement because the first one I bought started to come apart on the leg loops. My previous one had elastic on the leg loops so I made sure to get a new one that did not have elastic. This harness is great and I feel like it built really well and I feel secure that it won't come apart. I am a beginner climber hope to stick with climbing for a while and think this will last. It feels very durable and is a better fit than the other one that I returned.

        Safe and Secure

Tiny people (finally) get 4 gear loops.

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Update: the newer color/updated version does have 4 gear loops in th xs; I put up this review when the older gray/teal one was still available - wish I'd waited a year!

First off - the size XS harness in the 2012 model only has 3 gear loops, BD fixed this in their updated version!

That aside, this harness is great. Sizing wise, the adjustment range of the leg loops relative to the waist loop is what sold me on this design. Sure, it's a bit heavy duty for summer climbing, especially when you're walking to and from various crags. But you know what, it's damn comfy. I've spent many an 8 hour day belaying group parties at my part time job at a rock gym and been very thankful for the cushioning.

I wanted a harness that would take me from clammy schist and granite in the summer to frozen walls of ice and hauling sleds in the winter. This harness does it all.

Bottom line: not as lightweight and airy as some of the gym and sport-climbing specific harnesses (like the Aura and Siren), but an all around workhorse that keeps coming back for more. Also, super adjustable leg loops, yes please.

Is the fit similar to the BD Women's Aura harness? Mine is just a tad too big and I'm curious as to how the small and extra small compare.
