Enter the alpine realm with the Black Diamond Lockdown Leash on your ice tool.

Black Diamond designed the Lockdown Leash with a simple sliding release that allows one-handed use and makes it a great choice for both steep ice and alpine climbing. Just hook the Lockdown Leash's open loop over your tool's hammer or adze and pull down. The wrist loop opens to free your hand so you can place ice screws, and it allows you back in easily. This Black Diamond leash attaches to the head of any technical ice tool, and allows you to plunge your shaft into steep snow without releasing.

    Familiarity:I've used it several times

...to have in your backpack for unexpected conditions, like the last 500 vertical feet of Mt. Hood, super happy I had this when conditions deteriorated at the summit. No Axe = No Bueno! Grab this leash, cheap insurance!

    Too short

I found these way too short - pity

    Short and Slips off Wrist

The leash is one of the shortest leashes that can be purchased. This could be seen as a positive or negative thing; the loop has a tendency to loosen and slip off the wrist.

I disagree, have never had that problem

    Tool security

This is a fantastic leash for mountaineering. Its very secure and comfy. Although for leading it be tricky if your tool has an adze. It a huge step up from the old twist leash I previously had. Its fully adjustible, and should work for any technical tool.

This leash works well and is infinitely adjustable. It is pretty easy to use but the loop that you use to get in and out of it is pretty big and could get caught on things. I use this on a mountaineering axe but this would work well with ice tools that don't have specific leashes. One nice feature is the buckle that keeps the leash from getting too tight.
