Why We Like The Black Diamond Helio Carbon 104 Ski
The Helio Carbon collection of backcountry skis consists of Black Diamond's lightest planks for alpine touring, and we think the Helio Carbon 104 Ski is one of the most versatile in the bunch. The second-widest Helio Carbon, this ski certainly has a penchant for powder but can rip icy chutes or aprons with variable snow as well as powder. Black Diamond designed it with an early rise at the tip so we can navigate deep powder with ease whether we're on the skin track or the descent, and a bit of camber underfoot works with the slightly rockered tail to employ a versatile performance whether we're edging down icy couloirs or cruising spring crud.

Stoked for the uphill!
Arrived as expected. Excited to get these mounted and enjoy the uphill.

Good in the fluff, could be better in the hardpack
Only been on them two days so far in variable conditions due to windpack. Felt great in the softer snow but could do better on choppy hardpack. Went with the recommended mounting point though instead of closer to center which I typically prefer and may have helped.

Very light
Very light, ski well, and pretty design! Got 108mm brakes for the 104mm skis, which fit well.

Love them
these skis look great - adding bindings this week and heading out soon - expecting good performance when they get in the snow.

If you can only have one ski, this is it
Whether powder, corn or steep technical lines, these skis are all you need. Mounted with ATK 12’s, you now have no excuse not to tour until the sun sets because you won’t feel their weight on the skin track. Build quality seems excellent. Flat tails for the win!

Great ski for
My favorite "one quiver" ski (would also consider the 95 for the same). Great float in powder and handles well in crud. Appreciate how light they are on the uphill, but find they ski great as well. Tips can get a bit of chatter and deflect in crud at high speed, but it is very manageable. Quite nimble; doing well in trees and tight chutes. Hold a decent edge on groomers. Holding up well after >100 days on them. 5' 9" and 150/160 lbs; 178 cm length (would also consider the 184s for my size and if strong skier); mounted with ATK Kuluar 12; Technica Zero G Pro Tour boot

Not good with tele bindings
Complete top sheet ripped off midway through a 1500 foot shoot in the Tetons. Although they now state you can mount tele bindings in this ski I’m not sure you can. They are nice on the uphill though! Maybe I just had bad luck.

Best ever
The entire online and over the phone experience was absolutely world class. I’ve been on a set of Black Diamond ski’s of some kind for 10+ years. The customer service is really what brings me back.

Helio Carbon 104
I have only used these in perfect conditions; 15-30" of fresh. Under these conditions they are great. No disadvantage over heaver skies. The problem of tips burring on uphill appears to be solved with this generation.
