Crag 40L Backpack

Black Diamond's Crag 40L Backpack is a smaller version of the ever-popular Creek Backpacks, designed for climbers who dig bolted crags over splitter cracks. Its massive 40L capacity still holds more than a couple quickdraws, and with a rope strap outside the pack, you can get a picnic's worth of snacks and water in there along with the climbing essentials. There's a pocket at the top flap for guidebooks, and the internal zippered pocket protects your wallet, phone, and valuables in crowded crags. Rigid padding shields your back, shoulder straps, and waist belt from bumpy quickdraws so you can tackle trails longer than your average crag.

  • Sport climbing backpack inspired by Black Diamond's Creek Packs
  • 40L capacity suitable for draws, climbing essentials, and more
  • Top flap with drawcord skirt, and additional side access zipper
  • Exterior rope strap keeps ropes out of the pack for extra storage
  • Internal and top pockets designed for guidebooks and valuables
  • Item #BLD00RG

New Favorite Bag

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Fit:
True to size
Height
5` 5"

This is such a great pack! I found it to be comfortable on long approaches, no issues with the shoulder straps! I was shocked by how much i could carry in only a 40L bag! I have been able to fit a double rack, rope, harness, shoes, chalk bag draws, and a snack in side the bag with careful planning. Otherwise you can always put the rope on the top of the pack and free up some space! The front pocket is spacious but if you are carrying alot of gear and have a softer water bottle it may squeeze some water out. The only thing that would have improved the pack is a side pocket for the bottles, and the front zipper to continue a little further around the pack but these are minor.

Solid Bag

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Love this pack, at 40L it doesn't feel as big as it is until you realize how much gear you can fit in it. At that point you cant believe its only 40L. Carries super well and is comfortable. Have packed it in the rain and everything inside stayed dry. Zipper is super durable and makes it easy to get anything out without dumping the pack. Usually carry a 60 or 70m rope, a couple pairs of shoes, a helmet and a sport rack along with snacks and water/layers and personal items. Also fit a rope w/ a double trad rack .3-6 along with shoes water snacks and layers. All around impressed by BD as usual.

Pefect cragger.

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I can fit the world in there! I have a 70m rope, 14 quickdraws, chalk bag, shoes, harness that all fit snugly inside. The zipper makes it easy to access stuff at the bottom of my bag. Carries well!

Waist belt is too high for long torsos

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

It's a nice, simple pack, but I'm 6'0", 175 lbs with a long torso and I found the waist belt to be very uncomfortable because it sits very high and felt like it was constricting my stomach. My wife is 5'8" and likes it, seems to fit her well.

Thanks for the review!

Top Loader AND Side Zip all in one!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This bag allows you to throw everything in it as a top loader bag but you can also zip it down to reach the draw that fell to the bottom with out pulling everything out! It is a double zip you can zip fro the top to bottom, but also from the bottom to the top. I fit a 70m rope, 2 pairs of shoes, harness, helmet, draws, & snacks no problem! The shoulder straps are curved to fit your shoulders and are padded. The waist belt ensures it to sit on your hips and doesn't put all the weight on your back. I love this bag!

The Creek 50's Sport Climbing Little Bro

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

This pack is a great sport climbing pack. The side zip is crucial for pulling out your draws if they are located under your rope. The material is not as burly as the Creek 50 as it is just nylon, but for the price, you cannot beat this pack!
