    Cobra/Viper Android Leash

Clip the Black Diamond Android Leash to your Cobra or Viper ice tool to increase security on long pitches of vertical ice, and unclip easily when you desperately need to place a screw. This isn't one of those works-only-in-the-warm-and-dry-shop leashes. The Android Leash has proven itself in Alaska, Patagonia, and Canadian Rockies' mixed nastiness. Black Diamond's shaft-mounted stud design also makes the Android a great choice when you want to sport your tools leashless for a couple pitches of mixed, and then clip in for the final ice headwall.

    Leashes for BD Tools

    Familiarity:I've used it several times

Easy to use with gloves, as other reviewers have stated. Clipping mechanism is reliable. Lightweight. Good grip on wrists. Two points of adjustment, up and down the tool and around the wrist. The price point is pretty killer (as in bad). These aren't that hard to manufacture, no complex components or designs. You should get them in a pair for the MSRP.

    Check Tools Carefully

http://www.backcountry.com/black-diamond-cobra-viper-android-leash http://www.backcountry.com/black-diamond-viper-android-leash There are two versions of the "Viper Android" leash. Look at the attachment points on each of them carefully, and it should be clear which one will fit your tools. The one with the post on the attachment point uses a screw that goes through the tool to the attachment point. The one without the post uses a screw that goes through the leash into the tool.

These are nice well designed leashes. They are easy to manipulate with gloves. The attachment is at the tools balance point so its pretty easy to flick the tool around if you drop it.

    They're great

Just don't, erm, take off your glove and accidentally drop the bottom half..... Seriously, though, they're excellent leashes. Light, simple, easy to manipulate with big mitts/gloves.

    Easy to use

If you are going to use leashes, these are the ones. Easy to clip in and out with gloves.

Has anyone out there tried the Android...

Has anyone out there tried the Android leash on a Petzl Quark tool using the factory drilled hole in the Quark? (That is, NOT using the hose clamp but attaching the leash directly to the shaft with a bolt just like on the Cobra tool.) I have not yet fully joined the leashless movement and I love the Quarks... Obviating the hose clamp would be a nice touch.

Has anyone figured this out yet? Thanks!

do they come in pairs or no?
