Why We Like The Circuit Crash Pad
Black Diamond designed the Circuit Crash Pad as a daily workhorse for cost-conscious boulderers. It comes with women- and men-specific shoulder pads and waist belts for a comfy carry. The crash pad itself is sized the same, and solid square with sharp corners that provide better coverage when it's paired with other pads. Most of the pad is closed cell foam for long-lasting impact protection, and there's a bonded layer of EVA for a cushy landing every time you drop. BD built the outer with PU-coated nylon for long-lasting resistance against abrasion, weathering, and mud.

I have owned this pad for a few months now and have initial impressions about it. Although this pad does seem appealing because of the low price and coming from Black Diamond, a great brand, this pad seems to fall a bit short if you are a seasoned boulderer who is climbing solo and need a larger area to fall on or climbing higher problems. This would be a great pad for someone who is new to the sport or coming from a gym and just making it into the outdoor climbing scene. It is a very affordable price, and the material is durable and should last a long time, climbing regularly. The open dimensions are 35x 47in with 3.5 inches of foam, which is not a great option if you are using this as a standalone pad. Things I wish this pad had are storage options, foot carpet and thicker foam.

Great pad, so-so on uneven landings
- I've put it through the wringer
- True to size
I use this pad about once or twice a week and really like it. It is a harder exterior foam than my other two pads. This can be nice on rocky ground that is relatively flat as I have yet to feel anything through the impact. Sometimes the stiffer foam can hide low spots, and there have been a few landings where the pad will rapidly roll to one side and throw me off balance. Not at all a big deal with more than one pad as I use this one in the most stable spot, but something to be aware of. On the flipside, I really like the hipbelt for long approaches. Feels nice to have that extra support taking the weight of a pad full of gear off of the shoulders.
