Just received my beta light tent

I just received and unpack the beta light and the matching ground cloth. I confirm that the tent has four mid panel tie out loops, two on each side. It also comes with 4 adjustable cords for the tie out loops stored in the stake bag. The ground cloth weights about 13oz, it has 6 stake out points with bungee cords. There are also 6 toggle connectors near the corners to connect to the bug net loops. Each connectors are about 5-6 inches inward from the edge. I hope these information help.

Lightweight, roomy, but HOT!

Tried this tent on a late summer trip in WY. Weather was nice, chill nights, some lightning storms. For a 1 person use, for 20 days, with no footprint, was roomy and lightweight, but this tent needs a lot more ventilation!: either a little window on the top part (like the megamid’s), or a zipper pull allowing to open it up from the top, or the bug protection skirt should be detachable.. or something! There just too much condensation happening in this tent!

Almost Perfect

I’d give the BetaLight 5 stars but it needs a hair more ventilation up high. They could do this with a mesh backed flap or tube high on either end. Other than that, this shelter is perfect IMO. Lots of room, love the mesh perimeter (could be a bit longer?), fabric is a definite improvement over the Sil material.

Perfect simplicity

Exactly the bombproof, we’ll-designed shelter for long journeys that I was looking for. I don’t know why I waited so long to purchase one.

Love it…but where to buy the ground cloth?

I bought the Beta light this past spring and have just started putting it to the rest and well I LOVE IT! I had hot nights and super cold night in it and my dog and I are happy. It packs super small and for solo trips with my furry pal, it’s awesome. Super spacious! So far I have been lucky with only rain at night so haven’t set up on a wet ground yet but I have thought about getting a ground cloth for it, but it’s literally no where to be found on this website. Can we even get a ground cloth for this shelter?

Almost there!

I have now used this shelter for 15 nights. Love the ease of setup, the weight, the price, and the weather resistance. Only problem is that I live in a buggy part of the world and was hoping the bug protection would be sufficient. Sadly, it was not. Worked well for mosquitoes and other flying bugs, just not for spiders. We had two straight nights of waking up to daddy long legs crawling on our faces. Not great for sleeping. Come up with a better connection between the bug net and the ground sheet and I would happily buy this again!

Great multipurpose tent

I have had the original beta mid for years and have used it for backpacking and ski touring. For ski touring just set up the tent and dig down into the snow and provide room to stand and create a bench to sleep on. Because it’s light and small we have taken it on our adventure trips to Australia and Europe. My wife made sure we had the beta bug screen for the Australia trip. I highly recommend this tent.

BD crushes it again

Had the chance to put the Beta light to the test on a backpacking trip into the John Muir Wilderness. Super light. Easy to setup. Plenty of space for two adults w/ gear. GREAT lightweight tent.

Awesome overall. Missing some obvious features that would have made it 5 star.

As far as tarp shelters on the market, the Beta Light is hard to beat for the price. We had the older silnylon version as well (which was lighter but lacked the bug mesh skirt and guy out points), but unfortunately there was a fabric fault in the nylon and ours was not at all waterproof. Like, rain easily penetrated the main panel of the fabric kind of not waterproof. Anyway, after waiting for about a year and a half for the new Beta Light to finally become available, we now have the new version. We've put it through the initial paces on some Cascade volcanoes, and overall we're happy with the new version. It's properly waterproof (having kept us dry through all-night rain and snow mix on Mt Adams), and the bug mesh is a nice addition. Also, ours has guy-out points! This was an obvious miss in the previous version, and guying out the panels makes a big livability difference on the inside. Honestly, it's a very windworthy design to begin with, so I'm not sure how much difference the guy outs make for stability, but it sure is roomier inside. Unfortunately, that's where the improvements end. Why on God's green earth Black Diamond refuses to add so much as a second zipper pull to the main zipper, nevermind peak vents, is totally beyond me. We all know how tarp shelters accumulate condensation on the inside, and this tarp has ZERO venting options. You can always set it higher off the ground, but then you give up the bug mesh protection and allow wind gusts into the tent. Peak vents would be ideal, but even the ability to crack open the top of the zipper would go a long way. All in all, it's a great shelter for the price. Lightweight, downright palatial on the inside, and VERY windworthy by design. But the fact that BD keeps missing what their customers have been asking for is a bit disappointing. Also, it's cool to say in the video that a ground tarp exists, but I have been waiting for more than two years now to buy it and haven't been able to find it anywhere.

Not the best for fluctuating temperature

As in other reviews, the single wall tent allows moisture to condense on the walls when temperatures drop below freezing. If the tent is shook it can have the effect of raining inside. In warmer temperatures this was not an issue.
