7.9 Dry Climbing Rope

The 7.9 Dry Climbing Rope is Black Diamond's skinniest line certified for both half or twin use. Exceeding UIAA's standards for water-resistance, this rope excels on ice climbs and glaciated mountaineering missions, and still performs on traditional, rock, and alpine routes just as well as Black Diamond's non-treated 7.9mm option. Just like every BD rope, this one has a middle marker safely setting rappels.

Lightweight and brightly colored.

Lightweight and packable. Used for a 5 day glacier traverse covering 30 miles and 15k of elevation. No discoloration, no signs of rubbing, and the center marker is very helpful.

Good and light rope for glaciar travel

I bought this for glaciar travel with my clients. I already own two 7.9. 70mt of this rope that I use for Ice climbing but they are too heavy to carry for this purpose in high Sierra.

Great ropes!

Awesome rope! Durable and easy to handle. Great friction through the Alpine ATC, doesn't work great in the Guide ATC.

Lightweight and Durable Alpine Rope

Have had the pleasure of climbing on this rope as part of a halves setup on multiple alpine rock excursions and a couple of glacier adventures. Photo from the top of Mt. Owen in GTNP guiding a party of 4 across the cathedral traverse. This rope is solid. Handles well for belaying, smooth operation and without tendencies to twist (with reasonable rope management) I had confidence in my belayers ability to manage themselves, and was pleased with the handling while building my top managed rigs. I’m using the 70m version. Have also used this guy on glaciated terrain, granted, it’s a little bit bigger but it’s what I had. Mountaineer’s coils on either end work well for Simul-climbing and you’ve always got the option of a few alpine butterfly’s in the middle. Overall, a fine rope that does why it’s supposed to do, handles well, and has shown good durability through my applications.

great alpine rope

I've only had the rope for a couple months but it's done everything I've asked it to, it's stayed dry in the snow and held up to abuse in the rocks.

Great ropes

I've been using BD ropes since they started selling them and have always been very happy. Just tried out this set of half/twins on a soaking wet pitch of ice and they seemed to stay drier than other ropes I've had. As a bonus they didn't twist at all, even the first time using them. Ice climbers just need to make sure they rip the rather long plastic cap/tape thing off each end if they plan to do no-threads (aka. naked threads) or else they can jam in the thread trying to pull your rope through.
