Lightweight and Strong

I've put it through the wringer

I was looking for a fixed length, long handled ski pole for backcountry skiing after realizing over the years that adjustable poles don't offer enough value for the unavoidable weak spot in the adjustment connection. After years of skimo racing with fixed length poles, the assorted adjustable touring poles on my rack, especially the ones with connections that have loosened unexpectedly or broken, needed a more reliable replacement. My primary use of this pole is backcountry skiing. The Black Crows Oxus has met all my expectations after skiing a couple weeks along the Canadian Continental Divide and a few tours near my home at the south end of the Rockies. I hefted the Oxus alongside a touring companion's similar Scott pole. The similar Scott pole is noticeably heavier, and perhaps also more durable. The Oxus, however, has proven plenty durable for me--no bends despite scraping paint on rocks and trees during downhill runs. I like this style pole more than I expected. When skiing down steep terrain, you can quickly choke up the grip on the uphill pole and maintain a better grip than gripping a conventional pole below the normal grip. An unexpected value of this pole is the shape of the powder basket, which has an octagonal shape that makes an effective glop scraper.

Excellent poles

I've put it through the wringer

I like the extended grip of these ski poles for both steep skiing and for skinning on side hills. I think extendable poles are unnecessarily weakened with their joint(s). It's much easier just to choke up on the pole if you have a grip that extends far enough down the pole, as the Black Crows does. I also really like the pole's powder basket. It has a unique shape that makes an excellent snow scraper for cleaning snow off your top sheets or glop off the bottom of the ski, allowing me to remove the plastic scraper from my normal ski pack.

Decent Pole with Great Style

I've put it through the wringer

Overall, this is a solid pole that looks great and is somewhat durable. Extended grips make this a great all around pole - I even use it touring from time to time. One thing that could be a bit better is the aluminum compound. My poles are a bit bent up but have been decent overall.
