A perfect place for the family reunion or the post-ride union of beers. The Big Agnes Three Forks Shelter's gargantuan dimensions easily accommodate your friends, family, co-workers and their immediate families, and your entire graduating class from high school (if you keep everyone moving through in a line). One included removable wall can be put up on any of the four sides to block prevailing wind or overwhelming sun, and the ripstop fly with all seams taped can be put into place for complete weather protection, although most of your graduating class will probably have to stand outside.

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

This thing is so awesome. It's very easy to setup with only one person. I only wrote the review to say I almost didn't buy it because I generally hate tents with sleeves for the poles, as they are much more difficult to set up. Don't worry about the sleeves on this shelter, in this case they make it easier than clips. On a tent, the sleeves are a pain because all the material is connected tightly and the sleeves have no give. On a shelter the corners are almost completely independent, meaning it's very easy to use the sleeves. In fact, imagine trying to reach over the top of a 7' shelter to attach clips, or even attach clips before raising the shelter. I think these sleeves actually are a great thing for a shelter like this.

I purchased an extra wall from Amazon since Backcountry doesn't sell them. It was about $25. Might come in useful.

I wish there was a bug screen that could be added to the inside of this, but if there are no bugs, this is perfect. I will probably add the footprint, but I used a generic nylon ground tarp and it was fine.

I also bought a Big Agnes Sugarloaf, and I only got it half way out of the bag before I realized how much more difficult it is to set up compared to this Three Forks that was so easy, I just put the Sugarloaf right back into the bag and returned it.

Awesome shelter. Don't hesitate to buy it! I'm extremely picky and this one is a definite winner.

edit: Oh, I guess if I had any complaint, it would be about the colors. I think Big Agnes has generally terrible color choices for their products. This one looks like a MacDonalds event is going on in your campsite. People may stop by to ask if you have any happy meals left. There's another shelter that looks identical but much better white and orange color, but I don't know anything about their quality and I fully trust the great quality of Big Agnes so I'll deal with the color.... BTW, I did say I'm extremely picky!

    replacement to a kelty sunshade

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

i bought this sunshade to replace a kelty sunshade i had. this one has more sitting options underneath. it doesnt hang as low which means i dont have to bend over leaving or entering the sunshade. I also find myself chasing it across the desert like a tumbleweed. this might be becasue i also weigh it down better now?

    Good purchase!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this one to get shade during sunny days at the beach and it does its job pretty well. It sustained heavy winds without too much hassle and it provided pretty good shade. Totally recommend it.

Also it's pretty easy to ensamble and dissemble. In 10 minutes you have your shade up and running. Package size is pretty small as well.

    Good purchase!

    Shade anywhere

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

We have now used our Three Forks Shelter about 8 or 9 times and each time I set it up I am impressed. Whether it at the parade, splash pad, campground, or just in the backyard, we have loved using this. The high profile feels very open, but does catch the wind a bit. Nothing that staking the corners and using the guylines can't handle though. Set-up is doable with one person, but because of the length of the poles, having two makes it a breeze. Also, having the adjustable/removable side wall makes adapting the shade easy as the sun/wind/rain changes position. We purchased an extra side wall to give us a bit more protection if we need it. Overall, this has been a great purchase for us and we rarely leave home without it in the car.

    Shade anywhere

    Not Too Bad

First day out on the beach and the second time I assembled the shelter, and I'd say I'm happy with it. The onshore winds are blowing at 10-12 knots and it definitely wants to fly. Fortunately four sandbags on the windward side, and one stake in the back corner are holding it in place quite well. I attempted to put the side shelter in, but it was too much of a sail without further reinforcement. Though the wall did make the breeze circulate around the shelter and it was quite comfortable underneath while I was holding it in place. Overall the shelter is bigger than I thought it was, but would work great for groups bigger than just two people. It's not the quickest to set up, but I sort of enjoy the nerdy side of making it work in the conditions of the day. Our dog will appreciate the shade for sure regardless of how much work it takes to put it up. I'd buy it again.
