The great outdoors isn't always that great.
Being outside always sounds pleasant enough, until you're actually there constantly swatting at bird-sized horse flies, blood-sucking mosquitoes, and fighting for what little shade's left in camp as the sun climbs higher throughout the day. Well, the Big Agnes Sugarloaf Camp Shelter is here to make the outdoors great again by sealing out biting bugs and blocking the blinding mid-day sun.
Designed to be pitched over a picnic table or act as a central dining area for camp, the Sugarloaf has a roomy footprint and an interior height of seven feet, and it can be setup with just a rainfly/shade canopy, or as a nylon and mesh canopy to block out bugs when the little jerks are out in full force. When pitched with the mesh canopy, the Sugarloaf has two large doors for easy entry, and it comes with large mudflaps that tuck under the footprint (footprint sold separately) to completely seal any gaps mosquitoes might find their way through.

- Q & A
- Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Bought this for a canoe trip in Voyageurs National Park in northern Minnesota the first week of August. I had heard the mosquitoes there could be terrible. Fortunately they were not. However, 2 of the 4 evenings at dusk there was no breeze and mosquitoes became annoying so the six of us took shelter in the Sugarloaf and the problem was solved. Also nice to get in the shade during the midday and still be able to see out or open the doors for a breeze. Held up well in the wind when a stormfront came through. I hope to use it in the future for car camping and other canoe trips. After following instructions and setting it up at home before the trip, I was able to set it up by myself in just a few minutes. I am very satisfied and look forward to many years of use.
Big Agnus has been good to me. I have a Copper Spur one person ultralight tent that I have used for over 70 nights and it shows no signs of wear. The zipper did break on the tent once, but I mailed the body to Big Agnus and they fixed it good as new.
Great Shelter for RVing
- Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
I purchased this as a gift for my parents who spend half the year traveling in a 25-foot leisure travel van. After dialing in how to set it up, they are very happy. This tent as increased their living space at camp immensely. They love that they can still enjoy the outdoors when camping in a light rainy or buggy area.
If you have any specific questions about set up, construction, etc I am happy to get the answer for you from my folks. Feel free to shoot me an email- firstname.lastname@example.org
Well thought out!
Used once and very impressed. Storage bag is brilliant . The small details on tent show this thing will last a long time.
Big Agnes Sugar Loaf Shelter
The Sugarloaf is the answer to the campsite conundrum of wanting to eat, drink, and be merry outside without swatting flies off your hot dog with every bite. Designed to be pitched over a picnic table or wherever you decide to set up your table, chairs, or kitchen prep. Two zippered entrances give you the option of keeping the doors wide open, while the mesh keeps that cool mountain breeze on your face. Enjoy a bug free, shaded shelter protected from the elements with room to hang out and store your gear.
What is the height of the entrance? How tall of a person can walk under the fly entrance without ducking?
