Salt Creek SL3 Tent

If you want a true luxury backpacking adventure, you might consider grabbing the Salt Creek SL3. Three doors, two vestibules, and vertical walls give this nifty freestanding tent easy access and plenty of room to move, and its 3-person capacity can be perfect for a couple and their fur baby, a couple and their real baby, or a couple and the extra room they want just to have it. It weighs into the superlight category of tents, yet comes with everything you need for 3-season comfort—waterproof fly for rainy weather, mesh ceiling for clear nights, an easy setup you'll appreciate after a long day on the trail, and reflective guylines to help you find your way home after the campfire's died down.

High quality, versatile tent

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I've owned this tent for a year and a half, and used it probably 25-30 times in various conditions. Overall I absolutely adore this tent. I never write reviews, but this tent has brought me a lot of happiness. Pros: -Setup is relatively quick and easy, though the pole design is not my favorite -The third door is very practical, providing quick and easy access -The inner hanging shelf is super useful for storage of stuff sacks, bags, and extra clothing -Nice and spacious interior, fits two adults and two (medium sized) dogs -Has performed well in rainy and cold conditions -Lightweight enough for casual backpacking -After a decent amount of use and abuse (including from two dogs) the tent still looks great Cons: -Like many others, my rain fly arrived stained. An unfortunate blemish for an expensive purchase, but I shrugged and moved on -The stakes that it comes with are cheap and don't match the overall quality of the tent -The storage bag tears VERY easily. Mine is still in use but has a large rip at the top -The footprint has to be purchased separately, and is difficult to also fit in the overly tight bag -The pole design is a little awkward, especially during breakdown and storage (like trying to wad up a compliant spider) In my opinion the pros outweigh the cons with this tent. It quickly became my go to for car camping or light backpacking. It still pleases me every time I set it up!

Rain fly also stained/blemished

Familiarity:
I returned this product before using it

The same happened to me as the other reviewer Carlos E. Tent seems great, but I haven't used it yet because I attempted to exhanged for a tent that did not have a stain on the rainfly. Backcountry was great with the return process but the second tent also had a stain on the fly. I am going to attempt to get just the fly exhanged directly with Big Agnes. Paying $400+ for a tent that is not "perfect" seems a bit crazy for me too

Factory second?

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

It feels like we received a factory second to be honest. The tent is great, sets up easily and quickly, spacious, wonderful, and seems to meet all the other great reviews...however, the rain fly is considerably stained/blemished. This cosmetic issue will most likely not impact the performance of the tent, but definitely feels like a product one would find at the factory sale vs. from a retailer. Paying $400+ for a tent that is not "perfect" seems a bit crazy. We will keep it and use it, but a little disappointed on the quality control .
