    Five star sleeping.

Your dirtbag lifestyle may not bring you to many five star establishments, but honestly who needs overpriced, tourist traps when the Big Agnes Q-Core SLX Insulated Sleeping Pad adds a heavy dose of luxury to your camping experience. Made with a ripstop nylon and TPU laminate, the Q-Core is a rough and tumble mat with a minimalist design that keeps its weight to a minimum in all of the available sizes.

A layer of synthetic insulation works hand-in-hand with the cozy, quilted top to deliver top-shelf comfort when temperatures down to fifteen degrees, which makes this pad ideal for everything from early spring ski tours and summer backpacking at high elevations, to late fall trips to the desert. The pad inflates quickly thanks to a high-volume valve that can be adjusted to the perfect firmness with a micro-adjust, air pressure button. Additionally, the Q-Core SLX is equipped with an antimicrobial treatment along the inner air chambers to ensure your shiny new mat doesn't become a smelly, moldy mess over time.

    Q- Core SLX Sleeping Pads

The Q-Core SLX ups the ante on quilted comfort in the backcountry. Redesigned offset I-Beams create incredible multi-directional support and stability. The Q-Core SLX is lighter, tougher, easier to inflate/deflate, packs smaller, sleeps warmer... when it comes to superlight, 3-season comfort this pad stands alone.

    Initial Impressions

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I picked up the Q Core SLX for two reasons:
    1. To compare the comfort of the offset Ibeam construction vs the vertical Ibeam construction on the Exped Synmat UL7 since it's the same weight.
    2. Test the new valve system, which has to be better than BAs previous valves which weren't that great.

Initial impressions: I do think the Q-Core SLX's design is more comfortable and I don't slip of the pad like I did on the Synmat UL7. I find the valve system to be kind of funky to inflate, but adjusting pressure and deflating is easier than any other system out there. It's not as light as the NeoAir Xlite or Synmat Hyperlite, but the extra comfort is worth the 4 oz in my opinion.

Will test durability over the upcoming backpacking season, but I'm pretty impressed after a few uses. Will update!

    Easy to use and comfortable

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This is my second Big Agnes sleeping pad, and I've had nothing but good experiences. (Unfortunately the first one met a terrible end when I loaned it out to a friend.)

I'm always amazed at how quiet these sleeping pads are without sacrificing weight. It won't be as quiet as your old closed cell foam pad, but it's definitely quieter than any other air pad I've tried.

The new valves are awesome - you don't accidentally deflate the pad when you're trying to add more air. It's super nice to be able to fine tune the amount of air quickly and easily.

    So comfortable!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I am a side sleeper and always have a hard time sleeping on a mat that provides enough support for my shoulders and hips. This mat has been amazing! I have slept several nights on it very comfortably, with absolutely no pain or tossing and turning! Also, the valve system is brilliant - the air won't come out as you blow it up, and the release valve is large so it deflates very fast! It also rolls up very small and is lightweight. I will be taking this mat everywhere!

    New and Improved

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I started using the Q-Core pads when they had the corner mounted valves that were prone to failure as noted in a previous review. This new design seems to have addressed the pointy corners that were causing the leaks. Besides those leaks these are great pads, weighing in at almost nothing and having about the same overall volume as a Nalgene bottle when deflated. In my opinion these are a better all around 3 season pad than any other available right now.

The attached picture is a petite model for my wife, but the larger pads aren't much larger when rolled up.

    Poor reliability

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

*it looks like Big Agnes has updated their valve system from the one I am reviewing, so take my review with a grain of salt

I've had two of these (first one warrantied, about to warranty the second one). First one had a poorly welded seam near the foot that started leaking the second day I slept on it. Not great on a 45 day trip. Couldn't warranty immediately, but was able to repair, until the area around the valve started leaking. Warrantied that one, but now am having the same air leaks around the corners of the valve on my warrantied pad, after sleeping on it maybe 30-40 days. I've repaired it, but is still losing air, and is a tough place to patch. I'm going to return it again, and ask for a refund unless they can guarantee that the same area will not start leaking on a third pad.

    Great Sleeping Pad

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

My mom got sick of me using her sleeping pads, so she got this for me as a gift. So far, I love it! The bright color will make sure you never lose it and despite the rough ground it has protected me from, I haven't had any leaks. It's incredibly easy to inflate and doesn't take long (even though the pad is 4") and I LOVE the quick deflate functionality. This pad is incredibly light and packs down nice and small. My only complaint is that it is a bit louder than I would have liked, but it is far from the loudest sleeping pad I have ever used. I have only used this in warm climates, so I can't speak to its warmth.

Is there a pump bag that would work with inflating this sleeping pad?
