    Insulated AXL Air Sleeping Pad

The AXL Air collection includes the lightest sleeping pads from Big Agnes; in the case for the Insulated AXL Air Sleeping Pad, it's the lightest insulated sleeping pad that Big Agnes has ever made. Made for spring-to-autumn temperatures, this AXL Air uses Primaloft insulation and a Mylar heat-reflective laminate to boost your own body heat back your way. The result is a sleeping pad perfected for campers and backpackers who always feel a little bit chillier than everyone else in the morning.

    • Silver insulation laminated to Mylar for body heat reflection

    Light and Comfy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

This was everything I was looking for in a sleeping pad. It was light weight and easily packable for use bikepacking. I slept great so I'd say it got the job done!

Not Good in Temps Below 50's

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

    light weight, packs small
Was comfortable in night time temps in the low 50's
Does not feel like there's any insulation.
I had a 1/8 in dense foam pad between my tent floor and BA ALX pad.
Nighttime temps got into the high to mid 30's and the cold radiated up thru the mattress. I had to wear every piece of clothing I had packed and was on the edge of shivering for a two night backpacking trip. I would recommend the BA Q-Core Deluxe pad when backpacking in temps under 50 degrees.

    Sleep like a baby!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I LOVE this pad. I waited a while to pull the trigger because of the price point, but it's the best thing I've ever done for myself for camping. It's lightweight, it packs down incredibly small and the thickness of the pad when it's blown up is great for those of us who are side sleepers. My hips never hit the ground now!

I took this on the JMT and temps were in the 30s at night sleeping above 10,000 most nights. I used this with my therm-a-rest z lite, wearing appropriate clothing layers and a 35 degree WM bag with no issues being cold.

    Light and warm

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

I gave this as a gift and here is some feedback: I love how light this is and how small it packs down. Easy to blow up and no impossibly hard to roll back up into the provided bag!

Light weight but not super durable

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Super comfy and lightweight but with the lightweightness of it you sacrifice durability which is definitely a problem with this pad. Still, love it even though I've had to patch it.

    Great sleeping pad!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Very comfortable and easy to inflate / deflate. The wide/regular size was too wide to fit into the pad "slot" on my Mystic UL sleeping bag, but my arms weren't falling off the side and I slept very well no matter what side of my body I slept on. Well insulated too, I was warm in 20 degree temperatures.

    My favorite for backpacking

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The Axl Insulated Sleeping pad is comfortable, packs down tiny, is lightweight, and my go to. I'd use this for car camping but shines for backpacking. It's by far the most comfortable ultralight sleeping pad I've used for a side sleeper. The insulation helps keep you warm and is not crinkly and loud like some insulated sleeping pads can be. Inflates easily by mouth but add in a Big Agnes Pumphouse and it inflates in under a minute with ease.

    Lovely Sleeping Pad!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Easy to inflate, packs up small, is lightweight for being an insulated sleeping pad, and is really quiet if you find yourself moving around! What more could you ask for at this price?

    Does pad things well!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Super lightweight, easy to use, and comfy! I was able to blow this up in no time without passing out and as soon as I put it down, I didn't even think about the fact I was sleeping on a pile of cobbles in a dry riverbed. The insulation kept me away from the cold ground on a chilly 30 degree Fahrenheit night.

What is the R-value of the Big Agnes Insulated AXL pad, please? Thank you.

Hey Dawn, Big Agnes does not release R values for their pads but this pad is rated as a 15-30 degree pad. If you have any more questions feel free to reach out to me directly via the information listed above.
