    Details

    Ridiculously light and extravagantly spacious.

By definition, the solo backpacker gets stuck with all the gear, but cut yourself a break with the ultralight Big Agnes Fly Creek 1 Platinum HV Tent, a freestanding shelter with a high-volume design that lightens your load without sacrificing an inch of living space in the process. An all-mesh body ventilates and provides a view of the stars, and the silicone- and PU-treated fly acts like a hostile bouncer, turning water away before it can get in the door and cause trouble. Zipper storm flaps and fully taped seams give it some back up, too, because moisture's a sneaky, two-timing no good customer.

Of course, the biggest feature that the Fly Creek has is actually what it doesn't have: weight. It checks in at a mere, a ridiculous, and an unbelievable 1lb 7oz, more than a half-pound lighter than a quart of water, and if you're really feeling like going ultra-ultra-light, you can ditch the tent body, bringing just the hub-style DAC Featherlite pole, the footrpint (sold separately), and the fly, after which your setup will weigh just an ounce under a pound—a weight that's probably less than whatever you're carrying in your pockets right this moment. Even with this silly poundage, you still get a fully-functional vestibule, a mesh pocket, and reflective guylines and webbing so you don't trip yourself up at night. Sometimes, it's all about what you don't have.

    Huge disappointment

This tent is extremely light, yet the zipper seam ripped after a month of use. My friend also bought this tent and her seam ripped in the same place after 5 days of use. Big Agnes did not reimburse either of us under warranty. I would not recommend this tent.

      Light and Mighty

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I had the opportunity to take the Fly Creek Platinum out for a nice little backpacking trek. This tent is awesome. A 1-person tent for under 1.5 lbs?! Insane. It fits so small on your pack and is incredibly lightweight. Don't let that fool you, this tent is still pretty bomber considering how light it really is.

It's definitely a little cramped with 1 person (as expected), but there's adequate space in the vestibule to keep your gear dry.

      Light and Mighty

      Meet the new Fly Creek

This tent has been the go-to model for long-distance and ultralight backpackers for good reason--lightweight, relatively spacious, double wall, freestanding, weatherproof, durable, and a world-class warranty. Big Agnes has taken the standard for ultralight backpacking and raised it to a whole new level.

      When Weight Matters

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Pros: Easy to pitch, spacious enough for a claustrophobic backpacker (me), unique pole design, absurdly low weight.

Cons: Fellow backpackers are jealous because I look like a leaf bug in this tent (google image search, it'll make sense) and my pack is way lighter than theirs? I'm kidding, mostly. I'll update this review as soon as I find a flaw; until then, nothing notable.

I first took this tent out after work for a weekend backpacking trip. I wasn't necessarily needing to save pack weight for the weekend, but, man, was it nice to do so anyway.

I was a little hesitant that I'd look like a goof in front of my two male co-workers pitching the tent for my first time, but I had nothing to fear. The design is user-friendly and intuitive, and I had my tent pitched first out of the group, so I fixed dinner-only seemed fair-and snapped this awesome photo while doing so.

This tent will be my go-to from now on. It's packable, light, and it withstands the rain. Big Agnes has done it again.
