Ultralight shelter for life on the trail.

When you're on the trail for days or weeks at a time, you need a tent that is easy to carry across long distances and won't make you go stir crazy from claustrophobia. Big Agnes has you covered with its ultralight and spacious Copper Spur HV UL3 Tent.

Dual doors mean you won't be climbing over your trail partner in the middle of the night, and the steep walls increase space without adding bulk, so afternoons spent playing cards or reading while waiting out a storm will be comfortable, even if an extra hiker decides to join you. The ultralight mesh body makes it extremely breathable, so you don't have to smell your trekking partner after day nine without a shower, and it lets you stare up at the stars when there's no threat of rain.

    • Full-featured backpacking tent with minimal weight
    • All mesh body is ultralight and breathable
    • PU-coated fly and floor protect against rain and damp ground
    • Fast Fly option shaves weight for ultralight trips

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Used this tent to summit Mt Whitney November 2017. Plenty of room for three, very light , especially if the tent is divided over three people. The tent held up to high winds , could not use tent spikes due to the rocky soil, used large rocks to hold the tent in place— no issues at all. Backcountry got the tent to me just in time for this trip and I only them three days before leaving.

    Best backing tent

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

This tent is just perfect. I find that most ultralight tents sacrifice space to achieve a lighter trail weight. The Big Anges tent is one of the few tents that actually is spacious inside and still super lightweight. It is beautifully built with a lot of attention to detail. There are pockets for all your valuables, a hook for your lantern, small reflective patches on the rain fly (in case you are camping by the road.) The tent is super easy to pitch (even in high winds) and has weathered storms very well. We use the 3 person tent for 2 people just so we have room to keep our bags inside but there are also two vestibules as well :)

    Best backing tent

    Great tent

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I am so happy with my Big Agnes Copper Spur, love the 2 doors this makes it so easy for each person to get in and out. Light weight and I stayed dry even in a rain storm.

    Amazing tent

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Great tent compared to some of the other UL tents out there. We just took it out on a two week trip to Lake Superior Provincial Park in some cold, windy and rainy conditions. The tarp does not stick to the inner tent, even in dewy conditions. Easy set up with color coordinated attachments. Inside area of tent and contents can be removed in rainy conditions. Its very lightweight and spacious in height and floor space for two adults. The two vestibules and inner pockets are great for storage and keeping track of small items. Its lightweight fabric and design is not insulating, though the tarp does tie down within centimeters of the ground to keep the wind out.

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

This was a gift to my brother and sister-in-law. They say that it is very spacious, well-made, and lightweight. They are looking into more tents like this one to take out on their excursions!

    Fantastic Addition

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I have really enjoyed using this tent over the past 2 weeks. It is lightweight, yet has done great through rainstorm, very cold weather, and best of all packs very light. So far I have only used it for my wife and I, even though it is a 3 man tent. I have liked having the extra room. However, I would caution anyone wanting to use this as a true 3 man tent. It has a tapered floor design so that it would be impossible for three adults to sleep all the same direction, especially if one has a large pad as I do. The instructions provided show alt head/foot pattern, but as someone who spends a lot of time in wildnerness, Ican never find that perfect flat spot, which means 2 people will be sleeping reasonably comfortably with slight downhill, and the odd person going the opposite direction is probably going to be head down hill all night. I cannot sleep like that, and I don't think most people like that. This past weekend was a perfect example. We spent 3 nights in Stoddard Creek Wilderness area and the flattest spot we could find was still on a slope. I think that is the only downside I could find. The material seems tough, yet lightweight. It is easy to set up. It packs very nicely in included pack bags without struggle. It has many convenient pockets inside. They put doors on both sides so it is easy to get out without disturbing a partner. The bottom is made out of a very thin waterproof material, and I was worried it wouldn't last so I bought the footprint while they were on a great sale. I don't regret that and think it might be a mistake to buy without it. I considered getting the included lights, but they were sold it. It is a cool idea. I would definitely buy this again.

    Convenience & Capacity

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have the previous model Copper Spur UL 3 - it has similar wideness 178 cm from both ends - for three adult middle size men it's really tight - of course you can sleep there but there is no one free centimeter. Big Agnes concept tp sleep as head-to-leg is not working in mountains - try to find a flat and absolutely horizontal surface for the tent - this is almost impossible, and it means somebody's head will be lower the legs. In this new model they made the special shape, which gives even less space.
Also it's interesting to compare the zippers in field - in new model all of them look much better.
But generally - BA Copper Sput amazing tent, super light, tested in heavy rains and winds of Siberia

Useful info. Many purchasers will buy 3-person tents for 2 persons, as particularly with ultralight tents the 2 person rating is optimistic at best. I agree that the narrow foot - wide head floor plan exacerbates this. However, I'm curious about the comment that there's "less space". In the UL2, there is definitely more headroom than in the old CS, particularly at the corners...but the floor dimensions appear to be exactly the same. Can you elaborate?
