Why We Like The Blacktail 3 Tent: 3-Person 3-Season
If you're going to spend a few days exploring the places where the deer and the antelope play, bring the Big Agnes Blacktail 3 Three-Person Three-Season Tent along for some extra company. While it sleeps three people, the Blacktail weighs under six pounds fully packed, so it's not like carrying your little sister around in your pack (the Blacktail doesn't eat all the s'mores by the campfire, either).
The Blacktail has plenty of features to make your nights in the wild a little more comfortable. The polyester fabric of the fly and floor sports fully taped seams to keep out rain and sneaky moisture, the mesh walls allow for plenty of air to circulate on warm summer nights, and the dual doors and matching vestibules help you avoid trampling your tent mates while keeping your boots and pack dry. Big Agnes also included reflective guylines and webbing to prevent accidental nighttime Godzilla-style tent destruction and included media pockets with special cord ports to help you find some peace and quiet during a down-day siesta.
- Feature-rich backpacking tent with room for three
- Polyester fabrics and taped seams shed water on rainy nights
- Mesh walls boost ventilation when temperatures rise
- Two vestibules keep your gear dry in inclement weather
- Aluminum DAC Pressfit pole system is light and sturdy
- Media pockets feature cord routing for headphones and chargers
- Reflective guylines and webbing aid low-light visibility

One tent to rule them all
This is one of the most functional tents I have ever used. It is light enough that it can be used for backpacking outings, especial when splitting the weight amongst a group. Tough enough to take some abuse and hold up well as a family car camping tent. I find the size to be pretty accurate as it can sleep 3 adults fairly comfortably, especially when compared to other 3 person options. The double vestibule dual entry setup makes sharing space much more manageable. It also stays pretty warm inside even on chilly October nights in Colorado. I would definitely recommend this tent for someone looking to own one tent that will work in a variety situations!

Great tent!
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
I took this tent out for one last summer outing and really loved it! It was clearly built with high quality and I look forward to using it a lot. It did rain overnight and I stayed dry. It is light and easy to set up. I agree with other reviews that the tent would be pretty tight if you were trying to sleep 3 people in it.

Not waterproof
- Familiarity:
- I've used it several times
This tent bottom is not waterproof. I read a lot of good reviews of this tent but was disappointed with my experience with it. The floor has only 1500mm PU coating, which isn't enough for waterproofing a tent floor when weight is on it. The fly does fine, even in heavy rain, but water seeped through the bottom when I camped with even a bit of dew on the ground. I had issues with and without the ground sheet and BA even sent me a new tent body, which performed equally badly. I'm very disappointed that this has become a car-camping tent that has to be paired with a heavy tarp for the bottom.

Big Agnes Blacktail Tent Series
The Blacktail two, three, and four-person tents offer spacious sleeping areas for a pair or family of campers. Easy access through two, side-entry doors and vestibules makes climbing over your tent mate for an early morning bathroom run a thing of the past. An excellent value for the entry-level backpacker or those who just want a super comfortable tent to bring on the trail.

Light & Durable
- Familiarity:
- I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
This tent is amazing for hiking. It's so light weight and easy to put up. It rained and we stayed nice and dry. The tent is really big enough for two normal sized adults and a dog. Three people would be tight.

Good tent
- Familiarity:
- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
Decently durable and plenty of room for two, or three if you want to be a bit more snug. Big Agnes doesn't disappoint.

Great tent
- Familiarity:
- I've put it through the wringer
This has been a great tent for many uses and environments. It has performed amazing well in heavy rain and wind. Even kept out blowing sand when other filled up. Easy put up and take down, durable fabric, but light. Great tent for two people backpacking who like to be comfortable and have a bit of space. Two vestibules work extremely well for extra space for shoes and packs, etc..

I know this says it does not come with a footprint, but the Big Agnes 2 does (while it did not in the past). Does the Big Agnes 3 include the footprint now?

Hey Jerod, neither the 2 or the 3 person Blacktail will come with an included footprint. The footprint is an optional accessory and will only come with very limited tents. If you have any questions feel free to reach out via the information listed above.

I agree. Tried it for one night in dry, but humid conditions and had a lot of moisture between footprint and tent. Also, my footprint does not stay attached to the tent body. It's just slightly too big and the grommets won't stay connected. Which is a pain if you're trying to move it and have to constantly readjust both. A little disappointed in my first Big Agnes purchase.
