Anvil Horn 0
I purchased the Anvil Horn 0 degree bag for fall and winter in Northern Wisconsin, specifically Chequamegon National Forest Trips. I also wanted something light that could be used for short backpacking trips. I used this bag in conjunction with the Big Agnes Trail Boss pad. The lowest temperatures I have encountered so far have been in the 20's. I'm a cold sleeper and I accounted for that when purchasing. The main reason I purchased the BA bag and pad is for comfort and space, while still being light enough for backpacking. I can put up with a little extra weight for sound sleep. Sound sleep is exactly what I got for a week in the Chequaegon NF. No slipping or sliding off the pad. No worries about puncture with the Trail Boss. The pillow barn is great. No pillow slippage either. I was completely comfortable sleeping in the 20's and I didn't feel trapped like a mummy in a sarcophagus. I had room to move. The bag fit perfect over the pad. I anticipate having to wear a thicker baselayer if sleeping closer to 0 degrees, but I'm a cold sleeper. This bag was a welcome retreat after bathing in 40 degree water and being in cold weather all day. It snowed and was wet the first half of my trip. The only gripe I have is the zipper. It's very picky. I had to slide a finger along the front edge to push the baffle out of the way to prevent snags. It may do well with a neck baffle on the posterior side. That's getting picky. The one on the front was soft and worked well.

Awesome Bag. Disappointing Flaw.
At it's core, this bag is very nice. The 650 down is great. It is super comfy and cozy, the way the zip comes up over your head is super nice, I really like the phone/headlamp slot inside the bag, and the pillow barn is awesome. Having the sleeping pad harness is great. I move a lot in my sleep and never once rolled off the pad. What I don't like with this bag is there is no insulation on the bottom. It integrates very well with Big Agnes sleeping pads. I used the Insulated AXL Insulated Air sleeping pad with this. I camped for five nights and none of the nights dropped below 25 or 30 degrees F. Even though the nights weren't that cold and I had the insulated sleeping pad, I froze because the bottom of the sleeping bag where it contacts the sleeping pad isn't insulated. Even a thin layer of synthetic insulation would make a world of difference without adding too much weight. The Big Agnes Q-Core SLX Insulated pad may be a better option because of its quilted top. Combine that with the Third Degree closed-cell pad and I'm certain you could stay real toasty in cold conditions. If this were a 30 or 40 degree bag designed for summer nights I would understand not having that insulation (this is an available option). But, this is a 0 degree bag designed for colder nights yet it won't retain your body heat because of the lack of insulation on the bottom. If you are car camping and can bring a closed cell pad and an air pad, this is a great option. If you are backpacking or bikepacking in cold weather choose your pad carefully - look more towards the Q-Core than the AXL.

I use either a thermarest neo air xtherm 5.7 or a sea to summit 5r rated pad. Then they are comfy

Down System Bag with Flex Pad Sleeve
Big Agnes System bags with DownTek™ insulation offer a roomy, rectangle-shaped sleeping space with an integrated Flex Pad Sleeve on the bottom. With technical fabrics and construction, compressible insulation and tons of comfort features, these comfortable sleeping bags are designed to be lightweight enough for backpacking but cozy enough you'll want them in the campground too. The streamlined silhouette and Flow™ construction increase the thermal efficiency keeping you warm from head to toe. The Flex Pad Sleeve unites easily with your pad, and as you change positions over the course of the night, will keep you from rolling off your pad.
