Why We Like The Z20 Aero MIPS Helmet
Sprinters and domestiques with their nose in the wind all day know that every aero advantage matters. That’s why we opt for the Z20 Aero MIPS when we're seeking a well-vented helmet with an aero-optimized shape to help us slice through the wind when every second counts.
The helmet is constructed using Progressive Layering, which uses variable EPS foam densities to better manage the transfer of energies after some impacts. Furthermore, its equipped with MIPS technology that utilizes a slip-plane inside the helmet to reduce rotational forces that can result from certain impacts.

Just used this helmet for the first time today. I like the feel, comfort, seems a bit quieter than my Giro Synthe, albeit just a tad heavier. I have a 58cm head circumference and the medium fits perfectly. A few things to note: I bought the matte gloss gray crimson (lowest $$ on CC), and I could not tell the strap color from the site description before the purchase, but the straps are red - which is fine by me, but thought I’d pass that on. Also, a very minor thing, and again it is fine by me, and I sort of like it, in that it may block a little sun (today’s ride was mostly cloudy), but the very front is visible while riding, just barely, not limiting visibility at all, but I don’t recall being able to see the front of the helmet while riding with my many other helmets.

Good aero helmet at a great value

At its normal $220 MSRP the Bell Z20 Aero is a no go, but at CC and BC you can find these way bellow MSRP, making this helmet a great value. I have a 22.5" head and a size medium fits me great. The helmet while aero, breathes better than most aero helmets and still is very light. I found comfort to be great with the float fit race system but the helmet is a tad bulbous. The helmet holds shades well and includes MIPS. Virginia Tech's helmet safety review has the Z20 Aero at 5 stars and in the same safety range as a Lazer Z1, Rudy Project Racemaster, Giro Aether, but slightly bellow something like a Bontrager XXX WaveCel. However it is the third safest "aero" road style helmet, only falling behind the Bontrager Ballista and Velocis, but when on sale the Bell Z20 Aero is significantly less money than the Bontragers. Helmets will always be subjective do to aesthetics and comfort but the one area I can ding the Z20 Aero is that it's not currently offered in any bright neon colors which could help with visibility.
