Stratus MIPS Helmet

The videos of an angry peloton delaying race starts in protest of helmet rules seem a little ridiculous now, but we're sure the reaction would have been different had Bell's Stratus MIPS Helmet been around back then. Its lightweight and cooling design borrows inspiration from the top-tier Zephyr and incorporates MIPS technology for an appropriately cloud-like personality that nearly disappears from notice during rides. You'll kit up quickly with easy, multi-directional adjustability and comfort that lets you focus on the snacks in your pocket and the road ahead.

When the weather warms up and caps are collecting dust at home, the durable shell's massive vents and matrix of air channels collaborate to regulate temperature with cooling breezes across your dome. All that airflow won't slow you down though, as the Stratus' streamlined shell shape is well suited for weekend races and long, scenic adventures alike.

  • Stay cool with this streamlined helmet
  • MIPS technology reduces rotational force in certain crashes
  • Durable in-mold shell dissipates force from direct impacts
  • Aerodynamic shell shaping reduces drag
  • Multiple vents keep air moving consistently as you ride
  • No-twist side straps stay securely in place
  • Float Fit dial allows for lateral and vertical fit adjustments
  • Ages 5 and older

Not much to say on this one. It fits, it is comfortable, it gets the job done. Nothing special about it but hey its a helmet. It has a solid safety rating, it uses recent construction tech, and its comfortable on long rides. I would recommend this to friends without a problem. One comment on size. I have a small head and thus helmets are always a problem when it comes to fit. I would say this runs true to size. What is nice about Bell is that they overlap their sizes well which gives you two options if you are right on the line like me. I went down to the smaller size and open the adjustment almost all the way. I found this more comfortable than going larger and tightening it up most of the way.

I bought this towards the end of last season and only rode it a few times before my bike moved to the trainer in the basement for the winter. It is VERY comfortable for my largish melon. My head is longer (front to back) and not as wide (temple to temple) than average and this helmet adjusts to me very well. I love it. I will mention that one of my buddies who has a much smaller head put it on and the large fit him well too, so it may run a slight bit smaller than average or has a very wide range of adjustment.

Virginia Tech tested 69 helmets in collaboration with the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, and this is among the top-rated. I bought it to replace another helmet that probably saved my life. This one is significantly better. First, the foam is noticeably thicker in the area where I hit my head on the old helmet.. It also surrounds my head better, providing more coverage. The retention system works really well, in that it is both easy to use and holds the helmet in place (Try this test with your helmet - tighten it and then try to slide it back, does it move? If so, the strap may need adjustment, but on this one it had that stability right out of the box) I am not a fan of some of these color combos, but the white/silver reflective one and the matte black one look good to me.

Good not right color

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Great looking helmet. Light with lots of venting. This helmet seems to have a lower profile that the helmets I have owned. I definitely would buy another when this one gets old. Only down side is I did not get the color that was ordered. Still great colors anyway.

Same. Didn't get the color I ordered. Logo was off on the front too.

This helmet saved my life

I decided to upgrade my helmet and researched which ones had the highest safety rating. Bell stratus was one of the four I found with a 5-star safety rating, so I bought it two months ago. Today I crashed, cracked the helmet in two places, thankfully I had on a 5 star safety rated helmet. The Doctor in the ER said my helmet saved my life. My Bell Stratus helmet did it’s job and I will be purchasing another one.

Best helmet I’ve ever owned!!

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

I was looking for a helmet with a high safety rating and this one is it. It fits perfectly, is comfortable, and has a place for a pony tail to come through. This helmet is so easy to adjust. Really is the best helmet for cycling.

Chin strap failed

The first time I used this helmet the chin strap fell apart. When I attempted to adjust the strap to tighten the male half of the bucket fell off the strap. After searching for 10 or 15 minutes along the road but unable to locate. It more than 30 days since I purchased , so hopefully a local bike shop can replace the strap.

I'm sorry, but you gave a product one star because of user error. The straps and buckles on this helmet work like any other- I know because I have this helmet. So let's be honest- The strap didn't fail, you did.

I have had similar issues with the strap on this model helmet, and reviews on other web sites also mention that the strap is too short, for example: https://www.westernbikeworks.com/product/bell-stratus-mips-helmet

Great Helmet

I had originally ordered the Zephyr, which Bell couldn't deliver, but I needed a new helmet, so I settled with the Stratus. I am glad that I did. It is cooler, lighter and looks better (to me) than my prior Giro Aeon that I crashed. It fits really well, is comfortable and it's easy to adjust. All in all, just what I wanted in a helmet
