If you're looking for a ridiculously aerodynamic helmet that also keeps your head cool, your search stops with the Bell Star Pro Helmet with Shield. This helmet blew away the competition in wind tunnel testing, earning the nod as one of the most aerodynamic helmets out there that isn't a pointy-hat time trial helmet.

The Star Pro comes with 15 vents designed to channel cooling air around your head while you ride. Its Active Aero ventilation system also lets you block and unblock the vents at the front of the helmet to adjust how much air gets through. Opt for closed vents when you want to eke out every second in a race, and open them up for better temperature regulation on training rides. A tinted Zeiss Shield visor magnetically attaches to the helmet to round out its sleek, wind-cutting profile and protect your eyes from any bugs or debris.

Bell even makes sure this helmet is comfy while it slices through the air. A new Cinch system keeps all the straps neatly in place, and the FloatFit adjustment options ensure the Star Pro Helmet with Shield stays securely and comfortably in place as you fly down the road.

    Great Helmet Upgrade

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 165lbs

I always wear a helmet when I ride. For years, I had just your basic ANSI/SNELL type approved Bell or equivalent brand helmet. And those basic helmets saved my head on two occasions. Now that I ride in a number of significant distance rally rides, I wanted a helmet that saved my head and gave me warmth (cold chilly starts) and great ventilation (hot at the end of a freezing start to the day) helmet. This helmet exceeds my expectations. I also did not realize that it is more aerodynamic and gained 2 mph on my average training ride. The sunglass shield is nice as well. However, I had problems with fog when I ride when it is cold. Otherwise, as a person who wears progressive lens glasses, the shield allows me to wear my glasses, but get the benefits of a sun shield. This is my "go to" helmet for serious rally rides ....and it is great for the every day training ride as well.

Review of bell style pro helmet

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

It was a pleasant surprise testing this helmet one day earlier than expected. Once I figured out the adjusting mechanism, it fit comfortably and did not move. I use it for several iterations of cycling over lots of weekly of miles. The magnetic lenses due block out the sun, but filter in direct sunlight occasionally. The aerodynamic ventilation system switch is exceptional. It has the benefit of cooling your head with steady stream or shaving a few seconds. Only complaints are that the magnetic strip seems to be wearing off after two weeks of ownership and the infrared color resembles more of a pink and peach concoction.

    Great Helmet

Awesome helmet. I bought a Medium from a separate store. Originally I purchased the Giro Air Attack, but returned it, so i'll explain why I kept this one over the Giro. (Both Giro and Bell have same sizing for these helmets Med in Giro = Med in Bell).

Similar to the Giro, the helmet features a Zeiss visor that magnetizes to the outside of the helmet (flipped upside down) when not in use. Although I wouldn't recommend riding with it up there, it's still extremely snug.

It also has a slider on the back that allows you to open and close all the vents (except the 2 on the very back below the BELL logo). This is more of a novelty and I'm doubtful it actually speeds me up in any noticeable way. I use this primarily when its below 65F outside because it does keep your head quite warm, and if my hair's somehow sticking out of the vents.

One of the main reasons I chose this was that it looks more like a traditional road helmet, especially if you leave the visor at home. The Giro looks odd in my opinion without the visor and even with the visor attached I felt it sat quite high (the bottom of the lens level with the bottom of my eye). The Bell still looks nice even with glasses, however I almost always use the visor. It has a large field of view and is surprisingly easy to wipe sweat off your head by pulling out the visor.

In terms of the negatives, relative to the Giro, I found the Giro felt more snug and comfortable. This was likely b/c it has a rounder shape (which is why i felt it looked strange on my head).

The Giro also had more replacement lenses for cheap ($40 on Amazon) and in a variety of more colors, where as the Bell only has a few I've found ($120 on Amazon only variants of gray).

I included a front/side view picture of mine b/c there's no stock ones out there.

    Great Helmet

    Bell Aero Star Pro-

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I bought this aero helmet about six weeks ago. After about four hundred miles, the helmet has proven itself! I am 68 and retired from racing almost twenty years ago. I bought the helmet to protect my bald head from the sun on long rides and tours. The vent system works as designed. This early spring, I have opened and closed the vents as necessary- open on climbs and closed on descents with noticeable ventilating response . The helmet adjustments are functional and easy to make, even on the fly. The strap system is light and also easy to adjust. The shape and style of this aero helmet fits right in with all the road helmets that we have grown accustomed to over the years.

what is the avialability of a replacement lense for the Bell star pro helmet ? The only one that is shown is a Oakley 2 piece but the shield that comes with the hemet iis a ziess one piece, which is not shown.

Does the Matte Black version come with a Shield? The picture doesn't include it but it's listed under the "with shield" section as opposed to the separate listing that doesn't include it.

Also if it doesn't does it offer the ability or slot to install one later?

    Hey Max,

The Matte Black version of this Bell Star Pro Helmet (Item # BEL007P) will come with the shield even though it is not pictured. The Star Pro Helmet (Item # BEL007Q) does not come with the shield. Feel free to contact me directly with any more questions about Bell Helmets or if you are interested in setting up an order.

Why don't they show a front view of the helmet? Are they certain no one will buy it if they see the front?

front view looks fine in my opinion. I'm not from CA so vanity is not my primary concern:-) just bought this helmet and it fits really well and the integrated wind shield visor rocks. no need for sweaty sunglasses falling off and needing cleaning. highly recommend.
