If your hands look like you've been working in a coal mine after a single belay session, it's time to give your cord a bath with some Beal Rope Cleaner. This rope-friendly detergent won't damage polyamide fibers nor will it leave a residue on the sheath.

Fountain of Youth For Rope
This stuff is awesome! Great size bottle gives you plenty of washes to prolong the life of your rope. Great way to take care of your gear so that it takes care of you:)

Made my rope look brand new
I use the Beal Rope cleaner with a rope brush in m bathtub. I ran the rope through 8-10 times changing the water and the soap every 2 times I ran the rope through. My rope came out looking like new. I highly recommend picking up a bottle of this and cleaning all of your ropes annually.

Gets the Job Done
I purchased this along with my very first rope, and I could not be happier. Not only does this keep my rope looking beautiful, butthere is enough cleaner in this bottle to last more than the lifetime of the rope (depending on how often you clean it, I guess). Super easy, super important; I would definitely recommend it.

I put my rope in a pillow case and ran it through the washing machine (without spin cycle) as directed on the side of the bottle. Great alternative but slightly less effective than buying the rope brush. I was also surprised how little detergent was required, I imagine I will have this bottle for a couple seasons.

Holy cow! this is a big bottle of rope wash! If i recall correctly, this bottle is about 28 oz (about the size of a siracha bottle). You only need 75 ml (2.5 oz) per wash. Granted, two washes of a rope might be better than one, but you're still going to have this bottle for many, many washes. It's unscented and not too powerful. It does shake up the dust and give your rope a chance to look prety close to new again. I used it in a front load washer (rather than the brush and tub) and it didn't quite get some old stains out of the sheath. My rope does look cleaner and i can flake it out without coating my hands in filth. That's pretty much what i wanted - something that will break up the dirt that gets among the fibers and break down a rope faster).

Good quality detergent
You'll get many washes out of this one bottle of rope cleaner. The directions tell you to dilute it with a small amount of detergent and is a great value overall. It got my light colored rope looking almost brand new after a few passes with the Beal rope brush you can find on our site under item #BEA0014

Hey Matt, have you used this for harnesses?? Would you recommend it for it or something else like nikwax tech wash?? Also for Dyneema daisy chains...

If you are paranoid about throwing your line in with standard laundry detergent, this is a good option and does indeed get your rope cleaner than washing with water alone. There are lots of resources out on the web detailing how to wash a rope but this one is to most succinct and correct in my view, as it includes instructions for a frontloader, toploader or bathtub washing method: http://basicrockclimbing.com/how-to-wash-a-climbing-rope/
