Mountain life comes with a side of rain.

Afternoon rain showers are frequent in the mountains come spring and summer, so be ready to repel whatever rain you encounter on the trail or in town with the Basin and Range Men's Spiro Rain Jacket. Slip this highly water-resistant shell on when you venture out for an afternoon hike or decide to take a walk downtown to your favorite brewpub. Made with a 2.5-layer, the Spiro is well-equipped to deal with those pesky afternoon squalls that frequent your mountain home while remaining breathable to keep you dry from the inside as well. Zippered underarm vents help you keep your cool when the sun decides to make an appearance or when you pick up the pace on the steep walk home in an effort to burn off all those stouts and porters you just enjoyed.

Looks Good, Not the best Quality

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 190lbs

If you are looking for a rain jacket to look good for Instragram, then congrats you found it! But, this jacket has quality issues, unfortunately. First, the fit. Its just.... weird to say the least. Im 6,2, 190lbs, and got the M. The sleeves are great on me (I have longer arms though, so keep that in mind) and the length of the torso is about right. However, the waist is then almost too tight for me. Also, the width of the torso is wide. It almost looks like I have a bulge on my chest, where there isn't anything there. The shoulders are fine and even wearing it with the hood is okay. But my largest gripe is the zippers - seriously super bad. The main zipper is surprisingly hard to zip up, and the pit zips are almost impossible. They were so hard to zip down, that I actually accidentally broke one of the pit zips on my first time using it. And by broke it, I mean I actually pulled the metal rings off the actual track itself. Shenanigans.
If this is full price, definitely steer clear. If its on sale, its definitely works as a decent rain jacket, but just be aware that the zips are fit are iffy.

    Wets out

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 157lbs

This jacket is kinda lame. It looks suuuuper cool, but it doesn't work.
I had this on during a steady rain (not drizzle, not a downpour) for about 2 hours and it was soaked through.

Wanted this one to work because the price was too good to be true (alas) and the styling was cool. Oh well, back to the trusted brands.

    Works well

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 200lbs

Have not worn in a downpour, but drizzles, mist, light rain it's a nice item to have. travels well and can double as a light jacket to keep warm-ish. Fit is tailored/slim, so not a lot room to layer, size up if thats a concern. I love B&R subtle branding, no big logos , slogans tags, etc.

    Great coat for price

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I bought this for my brother who lives in Seattle. Its been a very wet season this year and he's worn it just about every day since he got it. Light weight, easy to throw in a pack and totally water proof. Definitely a good buy

    Perfect lightweight jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I used this climbing Mount Shasta and for some city use. It's the perfect jacket to stuff into your bag in case of a rainy day on the mountain or off. Really happy with it!

    Great shell for the price

Good quality material especially for the price, not quite goretex but will do on a budget!.

The fit is nice, and it's lightweight which makes it very effective.

      Perfect fit, great price!

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: large
      • Height: 6'0"
      • Weight: 185lbs

I love this rain jacket. Simple but what it should. The large is not a tent on me, slim cut that I like. I have worn it out in a down pour and it was 100% waterproof.
And you cant beat the price. So far all of Basin and Range items I have bought are great!

Looks Great, doesn't hold up. at all

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Rain Jackets are tough.. to comment on, not endurance wise. Why do they all suck after a few rains??? this one was no different. Water soaking through after only a few big rains. Bummer... Because I had another few months wearing it. Thinking to go with less breathable material, maybe grundens or another foul weather gear company.

Good looking Jacket. Not super durable.

Got the jacket, it looks great and worked well for a little while. Packs down well and lightweight but it's not too durable and kinda flimsy compared to other rain shells I've owned. It works ok only in a drizzle but seems like water is soaking through in moderate to heavy rains or during longer periods of rain.

Update: Tried to wash the jacket with some Nikwax to refresh the waterproofing. Gentle cycle, like the tag says. The jacket came out shredded from the zipper pulls in the armpits and the velcro on the sleeves. I'm sad cause I really like the look of the jacket, but I think I'll get a different rain shell this time around due to durability concerns.

Good looking Jacket. Not super durable.

      Great product, great price

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 6'0"
      • Weight: 185lbs

I've received a number of compliments on this jacket (I got the Olive color). It's more of a trim/athletic fit compared to the boxy fit of the Patagonia rain jacket I used to wear, and, true to it's nature, it holds up well in wet weather. Love it!

Impressive quality, not a universal fit

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'9"
      • Weight: 180lbs

I love the design, material and quality of the Basin and Range Spiro Rain Jacket - but couldn't find an option that fit my body type. I will typically switch between a medium or large. However, the medium was too tight in my waist and the large was too long and loose in my sleeves - so I returned both. I think this was designed for a traditional slender/athletic person. I'm 5'9" and 180-185 pounds, I'm fit(ish) but got that dad bod. Haha.

      not impressed

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: True to size

recently ordered the camo version, liked the look of it. read some reviews and it sounded great for the price. once I got it though it became quickly apparent that it's cheaply constructed. sending it back and sticking with Patagonia. just my two cents....

      light!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 5'9"
      • Weight: 150lbs

This was way lighter than I was expecting! I sized up to accommodate layering. We've had a wet spring here, so have gotten to put it to the test. So far, pretty happy with it. Me, and my gear have stayed dry. I get most jackets in a large, and wear most t-shirts or button ups in a medium.

      Impressive design & construction

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'10"
      • Weight: 170lbs

I'm 5'10" 170 and the medium was spot on.
The jacket body does taper and is a bit on the snug side at the bottom but is not restrictive.

Works well during showers but does get a bit water logged during heavy rain/downpours. It is on the lighter side so that is not a huge surprise.

Overall great lightweight all around raincoat.

      AWESOMENESS!

Absolutely 100% high quality and well designed product. I will be investing more into this company and their product.

      Lightweight and Comfortable

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: large
      • Height: 5'11"

The Spiro Jacket is super lightweight and it is of high quality! It also fits really well and looks great. Very Stylish!

      Great Jacket

      • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: M
      • Height: 6'0"
      • Weight: 165lbs

I gave this jacket as a gift and the recipient really likes it. He's worn it a few times and says it is comfortable and easy to move in. He also likes the design. I had to return the L for a M, though the recipient usually wears a L.

      Nice.

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: medium
      • Height: 5'10"
      • Weight: 165lbs

I'm only doing 4 stars, because it hasn't been used in long down pours. But, it sheds rain really well, in average rain falls. I got this for my husband. He's rather picky, so I was very happy that he really liked this jacket. He likes the fit and the color scheme. He's also been comfortable using it while hiking and fishing. So, it's been a winner.

He is 5'10 and like, a 40 inch chest. The medium is a good fit. My photos here are action photos, so the jacket looks a little scrunchy in these photos, but it really is a good fit.

      Nice.
      Unanswered Question

Is there any chance that the jacket will be available in camo, size large again? Really keen to pull the trigger on that.

How does this compare to Marmot PreCip and Patagonia Torrentshell in terms of waterproofness?
