    Amazing Coat!!!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium (wish I got small)
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I absolutely love my Basin and Range North Star Down Parka. I was sent this coat by backcountry to gear test and wow is it awesome. Even though its a puffer, it still has a feminine cut that is actually attractive (versus just looking like you are wearing a sleeping bag lol) I order a size medium after reading the reviews to size up. I actually think it does run true to size and a small would have been a bit better. I am 5'3 and 130 pounds for reference. The medium fits me (and has room for a sweater) but I think the small would have also had room for this too. The pockets are just a bit low on me now with the medium. If you reallly like to wear big sweatshirts, I'd size up. If you just want a normal layer underneath I would buy true to size. Also, the pockets are lined with fleece which means your hands stay extra warm. Definitely recommend the Basin and Range North Star Down Parka.

    Amazing Coat!!!

    Wierd cut

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'11"

This coat is warm and nicely made, however, it is not cut properly. It has short sleeves, tight in the arms, and baggy around the hips.

Hey Emily, This jacket has a curvier cut on the hips and I think you might like the new North Star down parka better. You can find it via item number BNG006O in the search bar. Personally I think the colors are cuter too :)

    Super narrow in chest

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small

I have very small breasts; 34-36 B. Size M was good in the hips (my hips are pretty large) but so tight in the chest. I could barely zip it there and then could not even move my arms. And Size L was huge everywhere. The sizing is definitely off with this coat... I am 5ft 6in 155 lbs and unfortunately had to return both M & L.

    I want to like it

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: xs
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 120lbs

I am skinny with broad shoulders. I ordered an XS and the sleeves were a little short and I was like a fat gal in a little coat through the shoulders...I couldn't really move. This could just be a me problem though. Also of note, it is pretty long. It seems super warm and comfy though, it just wasn't a good enough fit for me.

Nice coat but much too long.

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 125lbs

I bought 3 different Basin and Range jackets and the fit of all 3 was drastically different. For reference, I'm 5' 5", about 125lbs and have an athletic but busty build (37-31-36). I typically wear a size 4 or a small, but often size up to a medium in winter coats. For this coat I ordered a medium in the navy color. The color and fit were actually quite good. This was the only Basin and Range jacket that didn't have enormously wide sleeves. But the length was too much.

    odd fit

this is a beautiful and SOFT coat. I loved it's slightly longer length. But -- for me -- it was too roomy around the hips, and too tight across the chest. I am 5'9", 125 lbs, and wouldn't have fit a sweater underneath the medium. Beautiful quality though if it is a fit for you! am returning.

      So warm!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 5'6"
      • Weight: 150lbs

I ordered this parka for some leg covering and warmth during my cold, windy, and snowy walks to work and it works perfectly. I wear it all the time! I'm 5'6 and 150 lbs with broad shoulder, small bust, thin waist, and curvy hips. I usually wear a medium in shirts and jackets; including north face and marmot, but I decided to size up on this one due to the reviews of it being a bit smaller in the shoulders and arms. I'm glad I did! It fits perfectly through the shoulders and length of arms. It may be a bit large in the body area, but it's also a parka and meant for cover. It goes directly down to my knees and provides perfect coverage against the cold. I love the olive/green color. It can go with black or brown shoes/boots. The fabric and style of it makes it good to wear during the day running errands, to work, or out on a cold night. I'm definitely happy with my purchase!

      Beautiful coat, odd fit

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: XL
      • Height: 5'8"
      • Weight: 170lbs

I fell in love with the color and style of this coat but sadly, it is going back. I usually wear a size L in Basin and Range, and purchased an XL after reading the reviews. However, I couldn't even zip the coat up and the arms were oddly tight (not in the shoulders, but in the elbows and upper arms). The coat did look to be of quality construction and seemed like it would be toasty warm. For reference, my recent purchases of The North Face and Mountain Hardwear were in size L with perfect fits.

      Great Coat!

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: Medium
      • Height: 5'4"
      • Weight: 110lbs

Just purchased this coat a little more than a week ago, and like it so much I've worn it everyday. It's very well constructed with great materials. I love the high collar and the length works well with both pants and dresses. Nice color, too! I am petite and usually wear a small but ended up buying a medium as it fit a bit tight in the shoulder/arm area. Great quality at a great price. Highly recommended.

      Favorite coat I've had

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: medium
      • Height: 5'4"

I lovvvvve this coat. I bought it for the color because I wanted something other than black and I've received many compliments so far! In some lights it comes across as a green/grey and it has a slight sheen to it that gives it a high quality appearance. The length is everything I needed. Covers long sweaters and is perfect over the typical winter wardrobe. The weight is comfortable and a medium feel, compared to my previous NorthFace down jacket. My roommate also told me that it made me look skinny, who doesn't love to hear that?! Bomb price for this coat, if you're considering getting it, I would say you should. #treatyourself

      New go-to coat!!

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: L

The quilt pattern is so unique and different. The shape fits this curvy girl and that is hard to find! I can wear a light sweater under and still have room to move.... also love the high neck, keep me warm in windy weather. Great for day or date night out!!

      Great purchase

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Small
      • Height: 5'7"
      • Weight: 120lbs

Great purchase. I bought a north face coat similar to this one a few years ago which was 2x the price. This jacket is a more affordable version of that coat. I am 5'7 and 120lbs and got a size small which allows me to wear a sweater under it. So happy with this coat, very light weight but keeps you super warm. Water wicking outer material on the coat. Definitely recommend!!!!!

Great Quality at an Affordable Price

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Small
      • Height: 5'2"

This is a true bargain for what you get. The quality of this coat is on par with all the other top outdoor brands yet it's easily 20-40% in price. At 550 fill down it's warm and the baffle pattern is stylish & feminine. The olive color is also very sophisticated and pairs well with all color tones so if you're looking for something outside of a traditional black/gray/navy option, this is it . The full collar zips up so you keep your neck warm and note there isn't a hood so pair it with your favorite beanie.

      Very Nice

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size

I bought this for my mom who was looking to replace a similar down The North Face jacket. She loves it - likes that the cuffs are hidden when wearing it she likes the unique patterning of the down channels that make it stand out from your average long puffy coat. She likes that it is a smooth flattering fit and not too bulky and the length was perfect.

I'm a teacher in Denver, CO and I'm thinking about this jacket for arrival duty at school. I greet students and families at 7:00am and with our below freezing winter temps and snowy mornings, I've been looking for a jacket I can stand still in and still be warm. Is this jacket a good fit? I'm 5'2, 130 lbs and even though I'm technically a small, I prefer medium in most garments layering and fit. Will I swim in a medium length-wise?

Hey Jo, I think the small will fit for you but the medium would definitely be best for layering. The Center Back Length on the small is 37.5 in and on the medium it is 38 in if that helps decide on length! It might be quite long but it will definitely keep you warm outside in Colorado!

I'd like to buy the Basin and Range Northstar Down Parka for my daughter that lives in the Shenandoah Valley in VA. Temps can get cold but they don't stay that was too long. She's also almost 5'11" and has long arms. Would this be a good style for her? She's long and lean and about 140 pounds. I was thinking a medium. What do you recommend?

Hey Evelyn, sounds like it would be a great option for her. You're correct in your sizing, I'd recommend a medium for her. Feel free to reach me at cojohnson@backcountry.com or my direct line 801.204.4547 and I'd be happy to help out! Cheers, Connor
