    Good potential but flawed design

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Size Bought: m/32
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I liked the look and these fit well enough and look comfortable. Unfortunately the front pockets are designed in such a way that everything slides off, my phone will slide out just by sitting in the car so on the trail I put it away on my pack. The integrated belt seemed like a good idea but it came apart after a few times in the wash (was probably negligent with wash instructions but I'd expect hiking shorts to be more durable). Had too many close calls so I replaced these with Marmot Verdes and am very happy with those, only use these for the dog park now.

    Great for Wet Wading

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

    • Size Bought: XXL

This shorts have been a great option for wet wading. Good fit and plenty of pocket space along with a solid quick dry material.

tiny string that connects the belt broke

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Thought they were good shorts, Like the fit and style. The belt that you tighten connects to some kind of string around the waist on the left side. Well, it broke after 2 months, so now the shorts cannot be worn and I can't return them.
    Very dsappointed!

    great!

My son loves these! He hiked 75 miles on the AT and wants another pair. No belt necessary! Happy!

    Disappointed

I was able to wear these shorts 3 times, and on the 3rd wear the built mechanism fell apart from the shorts. The shorts were comfortable, and fit well, but this flaw in the belt is very disappointing.

      Several flaws

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs large
      • Size Bought: m/32
      • Height: 5'11"
      • Weight: 145lbs

Fabric is very nice, soft but tough. Construction looks good, but the captive belt tore out of the sewn-in end the third time I wore the shorts. The front pockets are very poorly designed, as the slash is too low and whenever you sit, everything falls out (remember where you last sat, so you can find your phone later).

      Well-built and appear durable

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: True to size
      • Height: 6'1"
      • Weight: 160lbs

I recently wore these shorts for some late night climbing, and they met my expectations. I was a fan of the built in belt, which made it very easy to make sure that they were just tight enough. Especially while climbing, it was nice to have that built-in feature and not have to worry about having a belt on under my harness. The material seemed very high quality. Although I did not get it wet, it felt like a material that would dry quickly. Overall, based off of initial impressions, I have found these shorts to be great for hiking and climbing. Great job Basin and Range.

Good shorts. Comfy, practical, look good

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Update two months later: Loving these shorts. Use them for casual around town and bikes/hikes. Quick dry is great. Previously said I wouldn't spend $50 for these but now that I've had them a while I changed my mind. Just to come back and buy a second pair in a different color but they're out

I bought these a couple weeks ago so I can't speak to the durability but I like the feel, look, and cut/fit. I'm a skinny, tall guy at 6' and just under 160 lbs. I usually wear a 32" or 33" waist and the 32" size of these shirts fits perfect in both width and length. The material feels good. I like that I can wear these on a bike ride or hike but then go straight to the brewpub or concert, too.

The price is right at $35. I liked the khaki shorts enough I was going to buy a pair of the charcoal version but for some reason the price is $48 and that is too much for shorts.

      Versatile shorts

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 38
      • Height: 6'
      • Weight: 205lbs

I bought these shorts as just casual and hiking wear. I find a lot of manufacturers shorten the leg too much for hiking purposes. After wearing them I ordered a second pair and intend to use them at the beach this summer too. I really like the belt design too although it is a bit long.

      Poor design

      • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: XL
      • Height: 5'11"
      • Weight: 190lbs

Not well designed--too tight in the middle, too lose towards the bottom. Should not be used as a whitewater guide short as it will get caught on sticks, oars, etc. No zippered pockets, so you'll lose your stuff. Great for non-whitewater use.

      Perfect fit and style

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: m/32
      • Height: 5'8"
      • Weight: 152lbs

I'm normally a 32-33 and these shorts fit perfectly. Love the belt system and overall style. And the material is awesome.

      Lightweight and comfortable

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 38
      • Height: 6'0"
      • Weight: 240lbs

I like the drawstring style belt to cinch them up. They are very light and I find the cut comfortable. I wear them to work as well as in and out of the house. They seem durable, but time will tell. I will buy more...

      Great

Picked these up for my husband who needed a new pair of hiking shorts. They've done well! No problems on several day hikes, overnight hikes and just out and around town. We don't put any of our hiking gear in the dryer, so maybe that helps with the wear and tear.

      Close

First wear, these things are amazing. Comfortable, look great, multipurpose. After owning them for 2 months and using them for mostly casual wear (They did see one weekend trip and a handful of day hikes, but no hard usage by any means), the belt has ripped off on the inside and come unwound. Some of the other reviewers have mentioned returns, so maybe I'll look into that when I get some extra time.

      Comfortable Shorts

      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: M/32
      • Height: 6'3"
      • Weight: 180lbs

I really like these shorts. They are light weight, dry quickly and they are long in length, true to size. I like my shorts to be knee length and these are. Could be a 1/2" longer for my tastes, but happy with length.

      Comfortable Summer Hiking Shorts

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 32
      • Height: 6'1"
      • Weight: 180lbs

I've been wearing these non-stop (around the house and out running errands) since they arrived. These shorts are stretchy and comfortable with plenty of pockets. Wish I would have had them while in Grand Teton and Glacier earlier this summer - they would have been the perfect choice for day hikes.

The material (nylon and spandex) seems like it would dry fast but haven't tested this yet.

Sizing is accurate. Usually I wear a 32 or 33 and found the 32 to be perfect, though, the material stretches which probably helps the fit.

      Comfortable shorts

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: 38
      • Height: 6'1"
      • Weight: 215lbs

I've worn these several times now trail walking in hot, humid weather. Very comfortable and stay dry. Fit is true to size and they look great. Would have given 5 stars but for the button hole fraying slightly (which I fixed myself).

      Unanswered Question

How similar are these to the old Stoic Thrive shorts? I'm still not over those being discontinued...
