    Spiro Rain Jacket

In your humble opinion, the act of trekking down a slick, rock-riddled hiking trail in the middle of a rain shower (which was definitely not in the forecast) is difficult enough on its lonesome. At least you're wearing the Basin and Range Women's Spiro Rain Jacket , so you don't have to worry about getting soaked to the bone as you navigate your way out of the woods.

Built to endure unexpected showers and steady downpours alike, the Spiro is fashioned with a lightweight 2.5-layer nylon fabric that's both waterproof and breathable. Its eco-friendly DWR finish and waterproof zippers further hold the elements at bay, while the strategically placed underarm ventilation helps keep you cooler as you hustle to the trailhead and the shelter of your car. The Spiro's adjustable hood and hem keep sneaky windborne moisture out, and the generous hand pockets permit easy access to necessities like snacks, car keys, or lip balm.

    Small hood. Uncomfortable. Disappointed.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

The stellar reviews had me SO EXCITED for this to come in the mail and replace my Columbia Omni-dry jacket. I wanted something lighter and packable for a trip to a hot, tropical area during rainy season and my other jacket is kind of hardcore and what I would normally wear as a shell during spring when I snowboard or hike. I wanted something with a noteworthy hood that would keep my face dry during a sudden squall, of spitting water. I wanted something that would bend and move with me while I hiked and moved and had a 60L backpack on me. I wanted something cuter that my boring black jacket. This jacket did not make ANY of my preferences and ultimately did not make the cut.

The Spiro Jacket hood was ultimately disappointing for me and all the things I require in a rain jacket. I had a pony tail on when I excitedly put it on for the first time and the brim of the hood wouldn't even reach past the crown of my head - how strange. FOR A RAIN JACKET. So I took out my pony tail (which is a traveling inconvenience because pony tails and buns ARE a thing to do when you're traveling), and it only managed to make the hood frame my face, not protect it overhead. I buy rain jackets so I never have to carry umbrellas. I would have needed to carry an umbrellas so I wouldn't have my face soaked. Also, if you have a lot of hair, or long hair (like me, hence the pony tail) - you can forget this jacket because there is no way it's fitting in this hood. If you want to look like a swaddled baby and are okay with getting your face wet and using an umbrella. This jacket is probably for you.

The jacket fit right if I was just standing, but lifting my arms and rotating to look look behind me felt, well, wrong. Really restricted and tight - it also started getting really hot and uncomfortable inside so I opened up the pit zips -- AND THEY GOT STUCK. What a mess. I had to fidget around my waist for a bit with the zipper to finally get the relief of a cool breeze, and I realized, the jacket has no mesh lining where the pit zips are - during a downpour the sides of your clothes would definitely experience some dampness. I decided to close the zipper and it got even more stuck under my armpit, so if you're trying to find a jacket that is efficient with buttery zippers while you're sweating in the middle of a rainstorm and your face is wet and you're uncomfortable trying to move around -- welll, that's what would happen in this jacket. And i'm a small person! I'm 5'2" and 110 lbs, athletic but small physique and gangly arms and wearing it felt like someone was trying to vacuum seal me in nylon or hold me back from participating if I ever needed to raise my hand.

Next up, the pockets. I like putting my hands in my pockets. I like putting things IN my pockets. The lining of the opening of the pocket was very scratchy and placed in a weird location so it was like I was singing I'm a Little Teapot every time I had my hands in them... kind of weird. I also didn't want to keep my hands in them since, like I said, really scratchy. Like the back of my hands needed lotion afterwards. The pockets aren't very big either and barely fit my iphone 6s plus and a wallet.
I mentioned I wanted a cute jacket. The pink stripe of a zipper looked AWESOME online. I was like Okay, that's pretty sweet. It's like purply electric pink and I was down. I put it on and it looks like i'm in grade 4. There was something juvenile about the random pink stripe amidst the all black and I wanted to feel proud about sporting the jacket around and the zipper just made me wish there was a zipper cover so I could just hide it. What's the point.

Aside from all of these set backs. I leave for my trip tomorrow. I don't think the jacket will be coming with me and unfortunately it's too late for my to try and replace it for another one. It also weighs the exact same as my other jacket and it doesn't really fold away or compact itself as much as I need it to and takes up more space that necessary

    Palm trees!!

    • Fit: True to size

Got this for my girlfriend because it has been raining here so much. Of course it would stop raining after I get it for her and she hasn't gotten to try it out in the rain but she said it felt nice and was very light weight when she tried it on.

    Perfect Weight for PNW

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I wanted a waterproof jacket to go over light layers allowing good movement. This jacket is perfect. I am 5'9" and weigh 155 lbs. The sleeves are long enough and the velcro closures at the wrists provide a nice seal against the rain. The cinches at the neckline help keep the hood snug. I love the bright fuschia color for dreary, rainy days while walking my dogs on busy city streets.

    Gorgeous color, weird fit

    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 125lbs

I bought 3 different Basin and Range jackets and the fit of all 3 was drastically different. For reference, I'm 5' 5", about 125lbs and have an athletic but busty build (37-31-36). I typically wear a size 4 or a small, but often size up to a medium in winter coats. For this jacket I ordered a small in the fuschia color. The color was beautiful but the fit in the chest was utterly bizarre. It was like the bust darts were in the wrong place. The sleeves were also quite large on me. I wanted to love this jacket but it's too weird to keep.

will keep you dry in a storm

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I just got it for a hiking trip and got to use it during a Florida downpour. It kept me dry and felt good against my body. I bought it in large to allow fro some layering and it does not feel to bulky and huge on me.
    Great design too.

    Perfect!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 130lbs

This jacket is exactly what it's supposed to be! It's super dry, you can tell the taped seams will endure a lot, and the material is light and totally water proof
Glad it has pit-zips too. And it's cute! I'm usually a small but the medium worked best since I'll be wearing sweaters underneath

    Love it!

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I had previously owned the same rain jacket for over 10 years (North Face) and needed a new one as the lining was falling apart. I was going to get the same one again as I really loved it, but then fell upon this beauty. I read great reviews about this jacket and am so happy I ordered it. Fit: I usually wear either small or medium for tops and jackets, so ordered the medium and it fits well (I read reviews that it runs small so am happy with my choice). Room for a sweater underneath for colder nights. Style: I ordered the Grey Palm print and love it. It’s not too crazy, but just a little extra fun. I was afraid it would be too narrow waisted/fitted as I don’t really like that type of fit, but it actually falls pretty straight. The jacket is very light and has great pockets and features. Definitely recommend it.

    Great coat, but size up

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 145lbs

I just got this raincoat and love the look and feel - but wish it were a little more true to size. I have a winter coat from Basin and Range that is also a medium and it is so much bigger. Other than the fit, it looks lovely. Now to wait for the rain!

    great for traveling

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I got this jacket to replace a thinner shell i have had for years. the old one was nice because it packed up super tiny in its own little sack - but that was as far as the good qualities went. it did not breathe at all, nor have any ventilation zips, it was also incredibly wrinkly so didnt look great when i was wearing it , and i pretty much never wanted to use it, even though it was so convenient. well this one is the opposite and i love it!
    1) it fits great and has a flattering female cut
    2) its bundles up great but doesnt hold the wrinkles too bad so im not embarrassed to pull it out and wear it out while im traveling
    3) the ventilation zips are a must, and the inside of the jacket is not the thin plastic that sticks to your now sweaty body (from previous lack of ventilation)
    4) all around great design
I will definitely be packing this on all my future treks as a crucial layering choice

Basin and Range Spiro Rain Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'2"

This jacket is the perfect fit - body, length and arms are all great for my 5'2" frame and I find it to be quite flattering. Other rain jackets I've owned have been too boxy and short and this is quite the opposite. I also love the bright Fuschia color for a dreary rainy day.

    Good Fit and Style

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: X-Small
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 118lbs

I love this rain jacket and receive many compliments when I wear it. I got the Gray Palm pattern and love how it resembles camo. I can typically wear a Small or X-Small and after reading the reviews, I went with X-Small. It fits perfect. I love the metal zipper as well. I've worn it quite a bit in the rain and it keeps me dry. Definitely recommend this rain jacket.

    Style and Function!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: m
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 135lbs

This is the best rain jacket I've ever owed, and I live in the PNW where it rains a ton. I got the floral one and was so happy to have a rain jacket that has style and preforms in all the elements.

Very cute print but Runs Large

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 116lbs

I returned it because the size runs too large. I am 5'3" and 116 lbs so I ordered XS. However, the XS runs like a medium or large on me. The material is stiff compared to another rain jacket that I have purchased at the same time. Nevertheless, I really like the floral print which is unusual for outdoor active wear.

    Wrong style for me.

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I ordered the floral print and didn't end up liking the style too much. The jacket fit well and the construction seemed great, but I think I'll be happier with something in a solid color.

    Flattering!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 135lbs

This is the most very flattering rain jacket I have ever tried on. I think it's because it has a lot of shape, in the waist. I do really like the color, as well, but the fit and cut is spot on.

I seem to be a small in Basin and Range everything. The small was really good for me.

I haven't been in a downpour, so not sure how it will perform. But, it has been good in average rain storms. It's rated at 20K, though, so I feel like it could handle long periods of heavy rain, without issue.

Everything else is also nice. The zipper is smooth and the hood and sleeves fit well.

    Flattering!

    Great rain jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XS
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 118lbs

I LOVE this jacket. In fact, I gave one each to my Mom and sister-in-law in the other colors!

I have the floral and it is such a pretty print - that paired with the flattering cut makes this a really cute rain jacket which doesn't feel 'boxy' and unflattering on me, like so many other functional jackets.

I just took this to England with me and it survived some pretty heavy British rain storms, while also protecting me from the wind.

Has nice deep pockets to stash keys, phone etc. and ensure they don't get wet.

I have an XS and this allows me to fit a lightweight sweater underneath.

    Great rain jacket

    My favorite!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Extra Small
    • Height: 5'2"
    • Weight: 123lbs

I love how this rain jacket is quality (I've worn it on several rainy hikes & adventures) and also so fun! I got the floral print and it is really such a fun look! Also the way it comes in at the waist is SO flattering which is not always the case with adventure gear! Truly great from trails to town!

    My favorite!

    Great Jacket

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 135lbs

My wife got the floral print and loves that she can have a rain jacket that is also a "cute statement-ish piece" too. Great material, flattering cut (comes in at the waist a little bit), and functional hood. It's a winner!
