    Must Have

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Cast Iron pans are a staple for any self respecting camp chef. The durability of these pans is unmatched - when thing's are looking rough and your pan is starting to rust, all you need to do is re-season it at home and you've got your self a brand new pan! The taste from cooking in a cast iron is unmatched, as well.

Must Have for a Camp Cook

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

Skillets are pretty straight forward, but this makes for a great Father's Day gift, seems to be good quality, and anyone who likes to have a good meal around a fire should have one!

    Upgrade your car camping kitchen

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

When I picked up the Barebones skillet the first thing I thought is this thing is heavy! But that's how you know it's durable. Cast iron is definitely the way to go when car camping because it's going to stand up to the elements and when it's seasoned properly it adds subtle flavor to your food. Heats up quickly and it's easy to maintain the seasoning if you clean it regularly. Step up your car camping cooking game!

    Great size and feel

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Only used it once but it was nice to have something smaller than my 12 inch skillet. So far I've enjoyed this piece and see no problems with it.

    Great Cast Iron

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

Definitely worth the money for a nice quality cast iron! It comes preseasoned and with instructions if you've never seasoned a cast iron piece before.

Great for home or around the campfire!

Cast Iron is the best Iron

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love this skillet. It is just at home in your kitchen as it is over an open camp fire. Cast iron just gets better with time. I expect to love this skillet even more after 10 years of seasoning.

8" Skillet - Take the Leap!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have recently started cooking with cast iron and with a little care and technique I am thrilled to finally take the leap. I purchased the 8" skillet and right out of the box I was impressed with the design and quality of the Barebones product. The ergonomic handle really does make a noticeable difference handling the skillet and having a bit of leverage, the preseasoning is applied evenly, and it just looks classy. More importantly, I was amazed at how easy it is to cook with from the beginning. It retains heat and stabilizes extremely well and also works perfectly on my electric stove (there should be zero concerns about its effectiveness on a cooking top other than open flame).
There are some techniques with cast iron that are different than a standard non stick skillet (a quick google search will help; as well as checking the brand site) that must be applied for best results, but following a few simple rules these skillets will be the best cookware you'll ever use. I highly recommend taking the leap into a better way of stove top cooking.

If you are not cooking on a skillet

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

You are doing it wrong. This skillet and its smaller cousin are the only two pans I use anymore. This thing is high quality, heavy, cast iron and should last forever.

      Best Pan I own.

      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

When I first purchased this I was unimpressed by how rough the cooking surface was, but I gave it a change and seasoned it. Boy was I mistaken. This thing is as non-stick in the first month of use as a 100 year old cast Iron. I love it--it performs better than my 14" camp chef in non-stick. Very impressed--might have to buy another for deserts

Want a pan that is part of a tradition that goes back for years? Would you like to eat from a skillet that produces flavors that you cannot get from a regular skillet? Look no further, because here it is! This little nifty skillet is perfect for eggs in the morning, or pan searing a fish. A perfect addition to your car camping set!

      Awesome

These are super high quality and work great at home or at camp. I can make breakfast for two all at once in the 12in - it's plenty big! I've now bought all three sizes to complete the set and expect them to last me forever.

        love this pan

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

I love using this as our camp cast iron. We originally got the 12 inch and it was a little too big, so returned that one and got the 10 inch and it's perfect. Good instructions on maintenance and care are included as well.

I'm throwing out the rest of my pans

        • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

Can't go back to regular pans. These things are great, good solid heavy construction, heats evenly, and they're from SLC, UT. What's not to like!

I own the 12 in and the 8 in.

12in is massive and kind of unecessary, but useful if cooking for multiple people.

8in is a great personal sized pan for 2-3 eggs.
