Why We Like The Baffin Control Max Boot

A true cold-weather workhorse, the Baffin Control Max Boot keeps the cold and wet out through snowshoe treks and driveway shoveling. The multi-layer inner boot features foam and reflective layers to deliver breathable heat-retention, wicking layers to move our own vapor out, and an insulating footbed that fends off odors, while the impermeable outer boot stops snow and slush from seeping in. Equipped with an ice-biting sole, this pair ensures our steps are solid too.

Boots for cold and snow

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Obviously these boots are designed around cold conditions. I've had a chance to use them about ten times. Coldest day on a ridge at 10,600' or so...high winds and windchill and variable snow and in some spots glass-slick ice. I added traction devices on this day (Kahtoola Microspikes) which fit over the boots perfectly and held in place. The sole design is indeed suitable to lightweight traction devices. About an hour on the exposed ridge and no cold problems, no discomfort, and good flex and support in the boot. It did not feel cumbersome and like something that was slowing me down. A mountaineering boot is more nimble but this boot is far more stable then you would imagine for a snow boot. Descending the ridge I met up with some 'interesting snow conditions'. A few inches of compacted breakable crust gave way to a couple feet of crud and cement. I was postholing for a good half hour as could not find more stable snow. I connected up to a worn trail and was able to enjoy being away from the breakable crust. Two things to note: the microspikes did not come off the boots, and my feet did not get the slightest bit wet or cold, and the laces remained tight through the eyelets. Next step will be to test them in conjunction with snowshoes... Overall, great boots. Baffin Control Max did indeed provide great balance and control...will have to see how they hold up over time...but so far so good. Five stars.

Warm Boot

Super warm boot. Used it out sledding with my kids and shoveling the driveway. I could see this being a perfect low activity boot such as ice fishing, shoveling, or sledding with the family. If I were to slap on some snow shoes and do a hike I would most likely be looking for a smaller boot. Still hiked a good mile in the snow with them though and they were comfortable.
