      Tastes great, easy to make, and keeps you fueled up on your backpacking adventures.
      Its a lot of food for one person, so I'd recommend splitting each bag. Or, you can eat half, close the bag, and pull it back out for a quick trail snack without having to bust out the cookset again. I did this a couple times on a recent trip, the bags stayed closed inside my pack -- but I did put them inside a ziplock bag as well just in case the bag did open up. Would recommend doing the same if trying this technique.


      • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer

      Backpacker's Pantry makes the absolute best backpacking meals. My girlfriend and I have both experienced all too many that did not even compare. This is one of our favorites. It's great because it's not super salty like most backpacking meals (and we always keep a bit of salt with us anyways if we found it necessary to add more after a long day).
      There are so many spices in this if you make sure to do a good job mixing it. As mentioned in other comments, it's good to add a little extra water and let it sit longer to make sure it all gets cooked well. We like to just leave it sitting and forget about it awhile while doing other camp tasks and it turns out perfect.

      Good, but not great

        Average taste, but wouldn't buy again, could have used more spices and maybe more salt. Texture of the chickpeas were slightly tough even after the recommended wait time of 20 min. Was sufficient when I was hungry.

        This is a mid-day snack for two.

        The spicy flavor actually kind of got my spirits up while on a recent soggy day hike.

        The first time I made this up I followed the directions with extreme precision. I did 2.25 cups of boiling water and let it sit in the sealed bag for 13 minutes. This lead to semi-hard chickpeas. Since that first time I use 2 1/3 cups of water and I let it sit in the bag for 15 minutes. If you follow those changes the dish comes out perfectly. Also make sure to really squeeze the ingredients around prior to serving as the spices settle on the bottom of the bag.

        This is a delicious dish that satisfies hunger and serves as a nice digression from other overly salty backpacking foods.


        Tastes pretty good

          My wife took this on a backcountry ski camping trip. She's picky about taste so when she says it's pretty good, it is ( I mean, I guess for backpacking food). Easy to cook per instructions and portion size is as described.


            If you enjoy spicy food, you'll probably like this. I'm a total spice wimp (when I go to Indian restaurants, I order dishes mild), and this dish was too much for me. But I gave it four stars because I'm pretty sure someone who does like hot food will enjoy it.
