Ok, let's level here... I know this is a little different than what your used to seeing in the Simms wader world, and yeah I get it, change can be scary.. But change drives innovation. and I think we can all agree that new technology is pretty cool, right? The concept of a Mid/Hybrid Wader is new to most, and it doesn't fit into either the pant or chest category. (New phone, who dis) Honestly though, unless your Steelheading in the PNW, than the fact is that in most situations you are standing in the fish if you are wading above your waist. Seriously, go back to the bank and practice your drift, no wonder you only catch minnows bro.. This feature is actually a big part of what makes this option so good, The mid height "bib" gives you some extra security over a pant during river crossings, it also makes accessing jacket pockets and going to the restroom much easier, which is a huge + in my book. This has also become my go-to for fishing from the boat. The low profile upper layers easily underneath a PFD without adding any bulk like most waders. Now, the pockets.. I have mixed feelings here. So I'll just go ahead and say it, we can definitely do better. I actually really like the stretch panel leg pockets, and they have been really useful for stuffing random bits like indicators, split shot, and the occasional pocket beer. (These things really stretch). These are in no way waterproof, which is fine for the intended use. But this is where I take issue, since there are no other pockets on this wader! This is the only significant gripe I have about the wader overall, and it is pretty easy to fix in a future iteration. this could as simple as a removable internal waterproof pocket like most waders have, or even adding a Simms Zipper so one can add-on their own accessory pocket or even the "Tippet Tender Pocket" that Simms makes already. As far as the color, since the age of the Dino-trout, fly fishing gear is historically all greys, tans and other neutral tones. Well, It's time for a (say it with me) Change! It is actually refreshing to see some color on the river, and my GF says these are the best looking waders I own, so there's that. So what about fit, kind of important right? As of now these are only offered in keystone sizing (S,M,L,XL), which can be a limiting factor for some. That being said, these are hands down the best fitting wader I have ever owned. I am typically a M/Short, so I went with the Small and it is prime. As far as durability, these are Simms typical burly 4-layer gore lower and perform every bit as well as other waders I have used, the Upper is 3-layer stretch Gore with a short zipper for easy access. Which is nice if you had one too many gas station rito's on the shuttle drive. I have fished these about 35-40 days since March, and they are still just as bomber as day 1. You won't be disappointed, and if you do ever have an issue, Simms has a pretty solid warranty program. TLDR: Solid wader with a unique design, keeps you dry. Goat x Simms = Good. I purchased these with my own hard earned money, and would 100% buy again.

I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review is my person opinion. These waders are truly some of the highest quality out there. The flexibility yet durability these bring to the table changes your experience completely. They allow you the mobility to squat, walk and fish comfortably - not pulling in any of the wrong places. The design also allows you to layer up well or go in shorts underneath without being overly snug or baggy. The adjustable waist belt also helps when layering clothes, making sure excess from jackets/ layers isn't inhibiting your motion. This multi-season use is huge for living in a place like Montana. The two large pockets on the front of the waders makes it incredibly easy to throw old tippet or bear spray in. They also have drainage holes which makes coming in and out of the deeper areas very convent for draining water. The GORE-TEX aspect is killer. They dry so quickly I never have to worry about drying them out after using them. I've had bibs before that struggle with staying on my shoulders or coming unclipped. The thickness of the straps, along with the back strap clip, allow you to narrow in on the perfect fit based on your preference and accommodate different body types well. The clips themselves are also incredible durable - better than most ski bibs.

I've been fly-fishing for 42 years. I remember enduring years of cheap plastic waders that didn't fit just because that is what my Dad bought me when I was a kid, and my Mom made him take me fishing. Once I was old enough to mow lawns, I saved up money and bought one of the first generation Simms brown neoprene waders, made in the mid-1980s. Those Simms waders were my first great pair of waders (they were very hot to wear during the summer). I've been obsessively fly-fishing ever since, and equally obsessed with good fishing gear. Based upon my traumatic, early wading history as a child with cheap, plastic, leaky waders, I'm now an absolute fanatic about buying the best fishing gear I can afford. Last year, I fished 53 days, and I won't suffer poorly made gear anymore. Over the years, I have owned every style of premium Simms and Patagonia waders made. The truth about Simms and Patagonia waders is that they are still both very good... Very good. I bought these backcountry X Simms waders mostly out of curiosity, and my ongoing respect for Simms products. I've never owned legitimate waders with pockets on the outside like these Backcountry waders. To my knowledge, this pair of waders has to be one of the first waders to try pockets on the outside of the wader. I thought that I would probably hate the pockets and that they would rip in a couple of days. I figured if that happened, I would just return these waders to Backcountry. As it turns out, I LOVE those pockets. I change tippets several times a day, and I am able to securely put my old tippet material in one pocket to throw in the trash later. I keep a cold beverage of choice in the other pocket at a cool 47-65 degrees submersed in the water as I am wading, as opposed to the 90+ degree outside air temps. I kind of wanted to hate these waders just to try and prove to my girlfriend that I NEEDED to always be buying the $795-$895 Simms and Patagonia waders. In my opinion, these are one of the most comfortable and breathable waders that I've ever worn. Again, I only have experience with Simms and Patagonia products. Again, in my opinion, both Simms and Patagonia waders remain wonderful products. Truth be told, these Backcountry X Simms waders are also wonderful waders. They are extremely durable, very breathable, and very comfortable. They almost feel like you are just wearing jeans and not waders. I've now fished in these waders 87 days. I still have no leaks, the pockets have not ripped, and I am very pleased with these waders.

After getting them wet a few times I can report these have some rad things going for them. The chest is sort of midway, which is going to be really nice here on Utah tailwaters where the water can be too cold for wet wading but its sunny and 75 and you're gonna roast in a full wader. The perforated gravel guards and less fabric overall up top make these super packable for travel or backpacking. Still bomber where it counts as the lower legs are 4 layer and I was confidently knee-creeping on midge slurping trout. The stretch allows more mobility, handy if you fish like I do, and the gusset and quick release buckle help make bathroom breaks easier. Really sweet waders overall, and likely to replace my others except for the deep winter.

It has been a long awaited transition into Spring here in the Wasatch but our latest Collab with Simms has me excited to get back on the water with a cold beer in hand. For our exclusive wader we opted for a Pant + height utilizing the new 3L Stretch Gore-Tex for the upper to give superior comfort and range of motion while featuring 4L GTX in the lower half for added protection and durability. The stretchy thigh pockets securely store your fly box and backup beverage so you're never searching for the essentials. These waders are easily the most comfortable I have ever worn regardless of if you are hiking to your secret hole or simply walking down the bank.
