    Patsey Marley Bib Pant

Since we're Backcountry Gearheads, pre-work dawn patrols in our beloved Wasatch Mountains are practically in our job descriptions, and those professional qualifications suggest we're uniquely positioned to inspire and certify a line of touring apparel that can stand up to the demands of the biggest days in the backcountry. We offered our insights to Flylow, which used its proven product expertise to build the Backcountry x Flylow Patsey Marley Bib Pants to our demanding spec. Named after one of our favorite local backcountry ski runs, these bib pants are prepared for whatever early-morning laps on Patsey Marley may bring: waist-deep powder, blustery winds, pelting snow, and steep skin tracks.

We wanted the ultimate combination of waterproofness and breathability—because internal moisture is possibly a backcountry skier's worst enemy—so we chose Polartec's NeoShell material for the construction of the Patsey Marley. It blocks wind and snow while wicking away moisture vapor more capably than the typical membrane, making the difference between soggy baselayers after a few minutes on the skin track and dry warmth all day. The bib itself features a super stretchy softshell material to further its breathability in high-sweat areas and promote full range of motion, while the fully articulated knees reduce restriction on technical kick-turns.

If things really start to heat up—and they will on Patsey Marley's steep ridge—the huge outer thigh vents let the air flow, and can also be easily pulled over to the side to create a drop seat when nature calls. Two pockets on the front of the bib are perfect for small essentials like sunscreen and skin wax, and, just in case the day involves a rappel into a seldom-skied couloir, the two thigh pockets are strategically placed to be accessible with a harness on.

    Love a bib!

The Backcountry x Flylow Patsey Marley Bib Pant is the bomb. They cut is beautiful, the attention to details is amazing and the color is perfect. I've always wanted a good pair of bib pants. I am still an intermediate skier and after falling once last year and getting snow alllll down my pants, I immediately wanted to upgrade to a bib pant. I did a ton of research and these Marley Bib pants are definitely the best value for your money. I am sort of in-between sizes but chose the x-small because the length and fit were a bit better than the small.

This was my first time ever wearing bibs. I am sold. They are so cute and it's nice knowing you won't get any snow in your pants! Maybe it's just me, but I wouldn't recommend wearing an anorak with bibs.. it makes using the restroom quite the hassle. I was looking for some bibs/pants that would fit slim on my legs and the XS looked great! I was surprised the XS fit me, I have a 26ish inch waist and about 37 inch hips. I'd really love to try some of the other Flylow bibs!

First bibs and I love them

This is my first time having bibs and I love them. Very comfortable and cute! You don’t have to worry about snow getting anywhere! Super easy to use the bathroom which was my worry! I have only used them resort skiing but want to get into backcountry skiing next season so will be excited to test them out more! As for sizing I usually wear a med or large but I’d rather have them loose to be able to layer and I have plenty of room for layering.

    Great fit and comfortable.

I love these bibs! I am built narrower and tall so bibs and ski pants are always very baggy on me. These fit slimmer without being tight. The fabric is comfortable and easy to move in. The venting on the legs is super nice and I like all of the pockets. The downside is that the strap closure over your shoulders sometimes will come undone.

    Poor fit

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: large

I don't know what is happening at gear companies but they seem to be missing the boat on how women's bodies are shaped. I have been searching for a pair of bib snow pants for a couple of years now. I have a butt and thighs (read: athletic) and a smaller waist but overall I would say my shape is incredibly standard. Based on other reviews I thought I had found "the pants". I ordered a large. The length was fine for my frame, the pants fit generally through the thighs but at the waist we lost it all. Another human could have fit inside the pants with me. I looked like a weight loss commercial. If I had sized down to a M the thighs would never have fit. Lastly, the shoulder strap attachment is lame. They slide off if you have the straps comfortably snug. If you cinch them tight so as to have the straps not slide off you run into the dreaded front wedgie.

    Great pair of bibs!

    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 140lbs

This was the second pair of bibs I've ever tried and I thoroughly enjoyed them! With being 5'11" I thought I would be too tall for them, but they were long enough and worked very well to keep the cold, moist precipitation out even on a deep powder day.

    Cute As It's Name

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Size Bought: Lg

Great bib pants, relatively lightweight, very breathable, love the upper side zips for easy on and off; the bib area did feel a little constricting/snug however and not as loose as other bibs I've owned. (I checked with a friend who has these and had the same thought). However, not a big deal if sized right or you're petite up top. Great performer and value and would recommend for versatile use too. Not as technical as some, but doesn't carry the same price tag either. Great choice!

I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. First and foremost are the pockets, there's so many of them! One of my biggest complaints are women's ski pants is the lack of pockets so I was so stoked to see more than 2 pockets on the Backcountry x Flylow Patsey Marley Bib Pants. The two chest pockets are perfect for my beacon, chap stick, and other essentials. I've never had bibs before and wasn't sure if I would like them or if it would be hard to pee, but the side zipper made going to the bathroom a breeze. They have been super breathable and withstand PNW winds and snow on long tours. The fabric isn't too still and moves well, just not sure how long it will last in the long term. There's a little bit of extra fabric in the hips on me because I have narrow hips but not enough that it bothers me. I typically would never buy pink but these are more of a dark fuchsia. Very happy with the Patsey Marley Bib Pants!

This is my first pair of bibs, and I love them. They're super comfy and the fit is flattering. I love the functional pockets and side zips - the full side zip for easy peeing is crucial. The material is fairly durable, but I do already have a few cuts on the bottoms from my ski edges.

    Soft! Shoulder strap hooks frustrating..

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 120lbs

I like these. I wore them 10 days straight for a hut trip in Canada and they were pretty solid. I am 5'6, 120 lbs and bought the small. I had an impossible time keeping the shoulder straps hooked---they came unhooked and then stared falling down, which was frustrating but fixed with some duct tape each morning. I couldn't figure out why this was happening! Shortening the strap isn't an option because of my height (and it's tough to tour with a wedgie)...not sure what kind of long term solution I can come up with here.

The material is awesome---it's light, soft, and very comfortable to move in! I loved the double chest pocket too. It came in handy way more often than I would have ever thought. My only other suggestion would be to shorten up the knee pocket. I keep my beacon in that pocket going uphill and the pocket was just long enough that it knocked my knee each step. Once we got home, sewed a few stitches in it and it hasn't been a problem since.

    Enjoyable experience

I demoed these last weekend and found them to work splendidly!
I'm a size 4/6 depending on the brand, tried out a pair of mediums and they worked great for me! I was concerned they wouldn't, as usually with being so tall it's hard to find clothes that aren't too short on me!
Great fit and design; the only thing that gave this review 4 stars is the material, which seemed like it wouldn't last a lifetime (but I guess that's what the Lifetime Warranty guarantee is for!).

Definitely Runs True to Size Chart

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I'm a sold size 4 US in pants. The small in these fit really well, and I'm a 5'8. So even the length was okay. I could even have filled the seat out a bit more.

I found the fit to be nice and somewhat flattering. I'm not super curvy, so if you are, I think you will find these to be very flattering.

Now for the technical side, these breathe and move fantastically. It's exactly what you want for touring. I did wear these in the resort, but that is not their intended use. However, I wasn't freezing, even though it was a cold day. I have worn other ice climbing/ski touring pants in the resort and the wind went right through them, on the chair lift. So, I think these would actually work well, for a cross over bib.

The pocket placements are perfect. Having a lot of pocket options is really important to me, so I was stoked. I had everything I wanted, except the straps for skins, like the men's have. Hopefully they add that feature to the women's next year. Not sure how much I'd use it, but I'd like to at least have the option to see.

The colors are really pretty. Not overtly bright or feminine, but still photograph well. I did note that if I didn't have the tension right on the straps, one side would slide out. But, once I got the tension right, there was no issue. Also, taking care of business is easypeasy.

I'm doing 4 stars since I'm not sure how the fabric and everything will hold up. The Lifetime Warranty is comforting, though.

    Epic day

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I've already posted a review so see below for details, but I wanted to share this photo because it was such a fun day and these bibs really performed!

I was invited to go on a cat ski day with work and PC Powder Cats - perks of working at Backcountry!

Although it is hard to see the bibs because of how deep the powder is, I thought this photo would be a good testament to their quality! The bibs kept me fully dry on the snowy day and I will now forever be a bib wearer.

    Epic day

These are so lovely! Just be sure to size up, especially if you have a booty and athletic legs. The rose colour is lighter than pictured here. I thought they would be more “magenta” but they’re quite light. Keep that in mind if you’re into lush coloured pinks. I am returning mine for the dusty blue and size large. I am 5 ft 8 and 165/ 170 pounds. Size small up top and medium down bottom (size 6 usually fits in lulu) shipping to Canada 🇨🇦 I hope this helps those taking the risk of ordering internationally. Customs can be the worst!

    Great bib for touring!

The Polartec NeoShell fabric is ahead of it's time, with the feel a breathability of a softshell and similar waterproofing to gore. This shell is perfect for touring or even resort days. You are thinking about this and I'll just say it but easy to pee in the backcountry for those ladies. So no zipper on the butt area that just looks weird and doesn't fit right. Just zip one side down and boom! You're back on the skin track or back at the lift line. Pockets are amazing too! If you skin and are prone to a couple laps, there is straps that come out and hold your skins, which helps drying your skins. They also fit true to size!

Doing this review with info from one of my friends who I tour with a ton and the fit is true to size and very comfortable. Also does not ride up like a lot of bibs do as well. Easy to layer underneath this, feel free to reach out if you have questions.

I am a little confused about your review. Are you writing this review for a female friend (womens pants) or is this a review for the mens pants. Trying to determine size as I am close to these same measurements but somehow the sizing does not match with some of the other female sizing comments.

A bit small, but there are Features

From my wife- These bibs are cute and functional. It's easy to put them on and to use the bathroom while wearing them. They're stylish and they'll keep the snow out 100%. They run a little small- I'm usually a medium but wore a large in these. I would recommend these bibs.

Better fit and features than the Foxy

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I was coveting me a pair of Flylow bibs, but I read all the reviews about the weird fit of the women’s Foxy. So I ordered four different models, men’s and women’s!

I have to admit I haven’t used them yet, but I wanted to comment on fit. I have “athletic” legs and a curvy bum, and while I had to size up from my normal size to a large for both Foxy and Patsey Marley, these (P.M.) are roomier in the thighs and don’t otherwise look so bulky all around. Follow the sizing chart and you’ll be ok. (I might actually go with the men’s Firebird size small, though.)

Love the features - side zips, access for bathroom breaks (a little easier than the men’s models), lots of pockets, thigh pockets are higher than on Foxy like on the firebird, more breathable upper. Weird that the straps are a d-ring rather than a plastic snap, but maybe they’ll be more durable. I can’t comment overall on durability but I like that it’s lightweight. It seems even better suited than the Foxy for backcountry. I wish it had the inner thigh zips, though.

I wish there were a black or gray version! The colors of the patsey marley aren’t my favorite and are hard to match with my other ski gear.

Just an update: I returned these and went with the Smythes in small and absolutely love them. (A tad long in the body so I might have the straps altered, but otherwise better fit for me, better colors, and great performance)

What is the waterproof rating and the breathability rating?

    Best Answer

Hi Kelsea - Polartec NeoShell is rated to hold a 10,000 mm water column and allows 0.5 CFM air permeability. In other words, it allows one half a cubic foot of air to circulate through the fabric per minute, while protecting against any water encountered from the outside in any real-world scenario. This small amount of constant two-way air exchange without sacrificing protection from the elements is what enables NeoShell to provide a highly perceptible level of comfort in a waterproof fabric.

is this bib insulated? How does it do in cold weather?

Hey Anna, This bib was built for touring and is just a shell, no insulation. If you run cold I recommend pairing it with the backcountry knickers. Most days this winter I felt great with a 150 weight merino baselayer while touring.
