Hot Lap Glove

As Backcountry Gearheads, many of us earn our turns before the sun rises, and if we’ve learned anything about winter skiing when the sun isn’t up, it’s that dawn patrols in the backcountry are colder than any ski resort’s open hours. That’s why we teamed up with Black Diamond to make the Backcountry x Black Diamond Hot Lap Ski Glove for the skiers who earn their hot laps before work, and if it’s warm enough for dawn patrols, then it’ll surely keeps fingers toasty in-bounds, too.

Black Diamond built the Hot Lap’s shell out of durable goatskin leather—a suitable choice, considering our hircine mascot—and waterproof, windproof, breathable Pertex Shield for performance and protection specific to backcountry touring. The goatskin leather reinforces the glove for long-lasting durability while providing grip for skinning the steeps; the Pertex Shield sheds snow off the back of the glove’s hand, and it blocks breezes while allowing more moisture to pass through so the inside of the glove doesn’t get clammy just when the laps get hot.

The Hot Lap works seamlessly with all other products in our touring collection, especially the Backcountry x Black Diamond Skin Track Glove. While the Skin Track’s light, performance-oriented fabric gives that special touch of comfortable protection on the uphill, the Hot Lap provides the heavy-duty waterproofing and warm, fleecy insulation required for the downhill. One glove for going up; one glove for riding down. When you’re wearing the Skin Track glove on the climbs, the Hot Lap’s carabiner loops fix the gloves to your pack—fingers up—so no snow gets inside and they’re dry and warm when it’s time to strip skins and find another fresh line.

Great touring glove

I bought these and the fleece backcountry touring gloves this year. These gloves are a solid weight for when you go touring and keep your hands dry in mixed conditions.

Nice Feel

The gloves allow for a lot of dexterity with a luxurious soft feel inside. They keep my hands from getting really sweaty while making my way up the mountain, and I really love them.

Perfect glove if you have warm hands

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I like leather gloves and my hands are always warm. For me these gloves are great, flexible, light, warm enough, good looking. If your hands run cold I would avoid them.

Exactly what I was looking for

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I bought these gloves to replace an old pair of BD Kingpin gloves that I had finally worn out after six or seven seasons of hard use. Unlike the Kingpin gloves I had, these gloves started out broken in and comfortable right away. The leather is much softer, thus giving you more dexterity than most other leather gloves. Not too warm, not too chilly, these gloves are perfect for your average Utah winter weather. Great for touring/resort skiing and even better on a snowmobile. Hard to beat the Backcountry x BD Hot Lap gloves for the money! Highly recommend.

Could Be Tougher

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Surprisingly warm for how lightweight they are. The freedom of movement in this glove is really good, and I had no issues buckling my helmet or adjusting my ski boot buckles. They probably wont be the most durable glove out there, but in exchange, you get a super light, super flexible glove. Keeps my hands warm in all but the coldest days on the mountain, and looks pretty good in the process.

Pretty much perfect

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

Love these gloves. Used them for the first time last weekend touring and they worked flawlessly. Waterproof, soft, breathable, comfortable, perfect fit. I didn't want to take them off at the end of the day, they were that good. I got a medium and they fit me spot on, however a tiny bit of extra space would have been nice for my jacket liner to slide through a bit easier, but besides that this is a wonderful glove for the backcountry!

Perfect for uphill

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I bought these gloves for some touring laps and they are perfect for it. The cuffs are small so they easily fit under jacket sleeves. They definitely aren't the super warm gloves your're looking for to wear in the resorts, but paired with the Backcountry x Black Diamond Skintrack Gloves you'll have a perfect set up. Wearing just these gloves, the finger dexterity is amazing! Can't wait to wear these for years to come! I wear a small in most gloves and got a small in these and I am happy with their fit.

Great for high output activity -

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Same as the other reviewers - I like this glove a lot. Good dexterity and very comfortable, just not super warm. I use them a lot for touring accents, but usually switch over to something warmer for digging pits and descents. Overall, I am happy with them.

Great Glove

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Backcountry and BD nailed it! I agree with some of the reviews not the warmest but I run hot as it is. I have been fighting off the leather wave of gloves as I am just getting back into the outdoors, but I'm sold!

Great Touring Glove

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Black Diamond and Backcountry did an amazing job putting this glove on the market. The fit makes for great dexterity in the cold backcountry, and they are great at keeping your hands out of the elements. They go amazingly with the Backcountry x Black Diamond Skintrack Glove.

Awesome Ski Touring Glove

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I really like these gloves for lapping the backcountry. The leather is super soft and supple so it makes it easy to adjust boots and bindings even with the gloves on. The cuffs are low profile and super secure so they work with all your layers. They're not the warmest glove out there, and that's a good thing! My hands stay warm, but don't get sweaty, so I'm always comfortable. These things are killer and at $65 are a great addition to your backcountry kit.

Are these gloves touch screen capable?

Yep!

Is there any plans to make a mitten version of this? I would buy it in a second. I just have found that gloves never keep my hands warm enough.

Hey Alexander, Thanks for sharing your feedback! I'll send it on to our design team to put on the idea plate for next season :)
