    Wolverine Cirque Insulated Jacket

Part of Backcountry's touring collection, the Women's Wolverine Cirque Insulated Jacket was designed with input from Backcountry Gearheads looking for a solution to the backcountry skier's eternal struggle: staying warm without overheating. To solve the dilemma, the Wolverine Cirque features stretchy, super breathable panels at the back and underarm areas and 60 grams of synthetic insulation at the core, allowing moisture to escape while we're working hard on the steeps, but trapping in precious warmth during transitions on chilly summits. Besides being breathable, the stretch panels offer an unhindered range of motion that we appreciate as we're booting up the steep chutes of the jacket's namesake, Utah's own Wolverine Cirque.

Because fat snowflakes and gusting wind are inevitable in the mountains, the jacket's face fabric is water- and wind-resistant, meaning we don't have to stop to whip out our shells at the first sign of snow. A band of stretch fabric on the hem prevents the jacket from riding up underneath a pack, and the large hand pockets are strategically placed to remain accessible under a harness or pack waist belt. All the zipper pulls are easy to operate with gloves on for fumble-free adjustment, while low-profile fleece cuffs with engineered thumb holes keep the sleeves securely in place when it's time to throw on the Backcountry x Flylow Pfeifferhorn Jacket and descend via one of Wolverine Cirque's iconic chutes.

    Great, multi-use jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 115lbs

The fit is very nice and flattering. I like that the sleeve are long enough where the thumb holes feel comfortable and don't feel like they're pulling or are uncomfortable. The jacket had just enough length in the back for a little coverage when wearing leggings. I really enjoyed the stretch in the fabric. I've worn the jacket trail running and fly fishing quite a few times and appreciate how it allows a full range of motion and also how warm it kept me during those early morning runs.

    Climb Time

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I took this jacket with me on a recent trip to the desert for a weekend climbing trip and it was the perfect layer - breathable during the warm days and fits nicely under my puffy at night. The only thing I didn't love about this jacket was that the sleeves fit a bit snug around the forearms for me - They fit just fine rolled down, but rolling the sleeves up to my elbows is a bit of a battle. On the upside, a feature I particularly love about this jacket is how it fits while I climb. The side pockets are set a bit higher on the waist, which allows me to access them without loosening or taking off my harness and that's so handy.

    The Perfect Lightweight Insulated Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 130lbs

I cannot express my love for this jacket to it's fullest, but I will do my best! First, for sizing, I got this in a small and it fits perfectly. It's a regular enough fit to pull over a long sleeve but athletic enough to still look feminine and stay close to your skin for warmth. The stretch venting on the sides allows this jacket to dump excess heat, which makes it the perfect layer for wearing underneath your shell while skiing. The inside chest pocket is perfect for storing your pass, card, or whatever you need. The four way stretch allows this jacket to move with you. There is an adjustable elastic band at the bottom hem, which comes in handy when climbing so that the harness doesn't make the jacket ride up, and for skiing for keeping out the powder if you're not one to use your powder skirt. The synthetic insulation is great because it doesn't wet-out like down tends to do. All around I am so happy to own this jacket and would recommend it to all ladies who need a good lightweight synthetic insulated jacket for all outdoor activities.

    She loved it

My gf demo'ed this jacket for a spring trip to the desert. She absolutely loved it's versatility for climbing and warmth in the mornings/evenings. The sizing seemed right for, although the sleeves were slightly long. She liked that it was more breathable than some of her other insulators.

    LOVE . THIS. THING.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 125lbs

I'm really into this jacket. I realize it was designed for touring, but I think it's a GREAT transitional jacket. Insulated on the front, but breathable in the back which makes spring hiking with a daypack really comfortable. I like the zippers as well, which work well and don't get stuck. I'm probably right between a small and a medium, but I went with the medium for a little more room. One other thing-- this is the PERFECT airplane jacket, because it is both warm and breathable. I find my temp fluctuates wildly on planes and this jacket has been just the ticket.

    Nice

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 175lbs

    Nice all purpose synthetic midlayer.

The stretch panels on the side are a really nice touch. The sizing runs a bit small so the stretch is helpful!

I would compare this to an Arc'teryx Atom LT and note that the Backcountry version is sized at least a half size smaller.

    Great go-to jacket

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'3"
    • Weight: 125lbs

I love this jacket because of its versatility. It makes a great jacket when it's cool and you want to cut the chill, it's breathable enough to hike in, and it looks nice to just wear around town or walking my dog. I've worn it a couple days a week and haven't had any pilling or snags so far and I've had it for months. The arms are a little long on me but it's perfect to use the thumb holes. I hate when the thumb holes are too tight and this jacket doesn't have that problem for me. I got a small and am glad I did. I'm a small the majority of the time and while this isn't form-fitting, it gives me enough room to lightly layer underneath without feeling constricted. Great all around jacket!

    Great go-to jacket

    I love this jacket.

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 150lbs

When I pulled this jacket out of the bag it came in, I thought to myself "no way is this going to do anything more than a light sweater." It seems so thin and insubstantial. I put it on and it was so comfortable I didn't want to take it off. "At least there's that," I thought. But, I've been wearing it outside as my daily jacket, and it's been absolutely fine on small walks even in 20°F weather. If I were hanging out outside without moving a lot, I'd put on an outer shell, and similarly in any outing under 15°F. Your results may vary but give this a chance.
I wear this everywhere--horseback riding, skiing, hiking, and my commute. I wear it so much I'm afraid I'll wear it out, but it's shown no signs of wear-and-tear despite feeling so delicate. I kind of want 2 of them just so I can feel OK about getting horse slobber on one of them.
I really can't overstate how comfy this jacket is. It also, for those that care, happens to look great.
My only gripe is that the men's jackets come in a nice goes-with-everything gray color that I would have liked. Super sick of men and women's gear coming in different colors, with the men's colors being way more awesome, but hey at least it's not pink.

    Great mid-layer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 127lbs

I've been wearing this as a skiing midlayer, hiking in the desert, and around my house when it's cold. It's really comfortable with the fleece stretch panels on the back, and is very warm (I'm freezing from October - March). I ended up trying both XS and S and went with the S as it had a little more room for layers underneath. I feel like I"m inbetween the two sizes.

    does it all

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 130lbs

Seriously digging Backcountry brand gear! This jacket does it all. As a mid layer at the resort, a warm layer for touring, or a cozy layer to wear out on the down on the daily. This jacket was a great upgrade from my thin down sweater that I used to backcountry ski with, and more reliable. I will buy Backcountry brand gear in the future!

    The perfect touring jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 125lbs

With lightweight, breathable insulation at the chest and arms, but not at the back or underarms, this is a perfect midlayer for skiing or solo jacket for dawn patrols when it's cold enough that you don't need to strip to your baselayer. I particularly like the lack of insulation at the back, because beneath your pack you don't need or want a lot of heat or material. This jacket actually reminds me of the Atom LT. The thumbholes weren't my favorite thing, as it feels like you're pressured into wearing the sleeves by design, but if you really want you can push the sleeves up and it's not too bulky.

    Nice jacket but...

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

I do love this jacket. It's a great midlayer - comfortable, stretchy where it needs to be, breathable yet extremely warm. I've used it out hiking on trails and skiing. Unfortunately I've noticed the front left chest panel of fabric is already starting to pill which is extremely disappointing as I've only had the jacket for about a month. I feel like that is unacceptable especially at this price.

    Great Jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 6'4"
    • Weight: 170lbs

Got this jacket for my mom. She loves the fit, long enough sleeves, close fit, but stretchy and comfortable mid layer. Wore it cross country skiing in Yellowstone and was very comfortable. The hood is warm and cozy when needed, but doesn't get in the way of peripheral vision.

    Toasty and breathable.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: S
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 120lbs

This jacket is a great mid layer to wear under a shell in some snow or rain, or on its own for some spring and fall days. It is warm and breathable for when you start working a little harder - whether you're hiking, skiing, climbing or just hanging around town. I wish I has sized into the XS. I had plenty of room under the small and could have still layered underneath the size XS.

    So far so good

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 140lbs

Bought a medium for my wife, 5’8 and 140 lbs. she has extra room for a base layer or two and doesn’t feel tight at all. Went skiing w it so far on local resort mountain- was warm and could fit a shell over. Only complaint is the neck area- when she zips it all the way up, the jacket rubs against her chin/neck. There’s no soft flap to protect against the fabric, back country needs to fix that! But overall happy w jacket so far!

    Great multipurpose jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

I have used this jacket for multiple different activities so far including touring, hiking, XC skiing, and casually to the office and around town, and so far this jacket has held up great in all the activities! This jacket is perfect for early morning tours when its slightly colder before the sun comes up and it fits nicely underneath the Patsey Marley Bibs. Great for hiking uphill. I took this jacket XC skiing for the first time early this morning with just one simple base layer underneath and it kept me sufficiently warm as I moved quickly. The flexibility of this jacket worked great as I used my arms a lot, and when I picked up speed on the downhill, I quickly cinched down the hood while on the move to keep my ears warm! The breathability and flexibility in this synthetic midlayer is perfect for high output activities when you know you are going to break a sweat! Not to mention, I love the simple down for wearing on a casual day to the office or around town, and especially love that its made in my favorite color!

    Great Active Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'8"

This jacket is great for winter active outdoor activities. Wore this snowshoeing and on a winter trail run. Its a great layering piece but great as a stand alone jacket that keeps you warm while being active without overheating. Fits similar to Patagonia sizing. Size 8-10 and I got a large. I could have gone medium but it would have been tight.
