I ordered this jacket on a whim. Once it arrived, it has quickly become my favorite jacket. As others have said, a more modern fit (which I love) and the material on the sleeves is stretchy without being too tight. If I could design a jacket, THIS jacket would be it! The cut/fit, materials, and comfort are all top notch. I’m normally a medium in every day wear, but the small fits “athletically” without any tightness or having to “squeeze” into it. My only regret is not buying it sooner!

Great Mid season Jacket

This is a great Jacket for windy and colder days. The material feels very high end and I’m very satisfied with the modern fit and look. I have used this jacket during mountain bike rides and hikes and like how it stretches to allow for free movement

Good cold weather running jacket

This has been a solid addition to my cold weather running gear. It’s a nice shell for the breezy/damp Pittsburgh running weather. As the temps drop below freezing, I find myself grabbing this more and more often. Love the down placement. Good alternative when you need a bit more than a vest. I took off one star as the fabric has an odd texture that prevents this from being a more casual jacket, but it’s not noticeable once you get running.

Thanks for the honest review, Matt!

This is an awesome piece. I layer a 1/4 zip under it and it does the trick. Please restock and get more! It is a little snugger fit. I normally wear a large and would maybe try and XL if I could try it on.

Really nice jacket for intended purposes. It has a more fitted fit, not baggy and not too tight, really nice fit for aerobic activity. I bought it for skinning but tried it a few times and the insulation on the back caused too much sweat under my backpack. Used it for cross country skiing w/I pack and worked great. I run really hot so won’t be same problem for others with pack on. Since, it had become my go-to everyday jacket for temps freezing and above. Material is amazing. The arms and lower back are a very lightweight stretchy material that breathes well and blocks the wind. Perfect for aerobic exercise in colder weather. Insulation on the upper back and stomach and chest is thin but does a good job of warmth in those areas. The jackets fit allows it to easily fit under an outer shell comfortably and wear a thin layer under it on its own. I really like the style, as it has a modern look. Lacks vent zips, but not really needed due to material breathability. Material also doesn’t soak up sweat and dries quick. Is perfect jacket for any aerobic activity without wearing a backpack, or as an insulation piece for skiing, snowboarding, etc under shell. Also awesome everyday piece for shoulder season.

I LOVE this new jacket in the Backcountry line. The sizing is on point, and the stretch material combined with just enough insulation is great for high activity when you need a little extra wind & weather protection. Much less bulk than wearing a down jacket, and the chest and back insulation looks fresh, and keeps your core warm while hitting the trails.

I took this jacket up to the mountains where it was chilli and lightly raining. The water beaded up and ran off the jacket. It kept me dry and warm. I feel the best use for this jacket are for the spring and fall with light rain conditions. I would highly recomend getting this jacket. The sizing chart is accurate for me and fits nice and slim on me without being too tight.

I love this jacket! I have used it in light to heavy rain without any issue at all! It is functional enough for different activities and stylish enough for the outdoors and formal events. Definitely a buy.

This says it’s a soft shell, but looks pretty thin. How much or a protective soft shell is this (like a Black Diamond dawn patrol) vs a super lightweight outer layer for some basic wind protection?

Hey there David! The Backcountry Wasatch Crest will be more breahtable and durable than the Dawn Patrol from BLack Diamond! The Black Diamond will feel warmer but it is not as breathable! If you sweat or get hot easily the Wasatch Crest is a great option, if you want a lightweight softshell but something with a bit more to it then the Dawn Patrrol is a great option
