    Definitely size up..

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 150lbs

I was eye balling this jacket for a while so when it went on sale I had to buy it! I bought it primarily to wear mountain biking on cool days to block the wind. I was concerned about the sizing since some reviews said to size up. I normally wear a Medium, but decided to size up. I'm so glad I did. The Large fit perfectly. It did however snug up a bit across my upper back when I crossed my arms in front of my chest, but the jacket has a bit of stretch to it so it wasn't a big deal. The arm length was also perfect. Love the Medieval Blue Current pattern with Teal Backcountry logo! Very happy with this jacket.

    Awesome Piece for Spring!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times

OVERALL IMPRESSION: Solid and handy. First of all, this jacket is SO light. I picked it up and was immediately impressed with the feel of it. Light and sturdy. I brought this on a few bike rides and runs and it is perfect for those chillier/windy days. I like the design and features this jacket has to offer, more info on that below. The fit is slightly small and something to take into consideration when ordering. Overall, it does its job while helping me look and feel more stylish.

WHAT I LOVED: At first glance, this jacket is very eye catching, I am a big fan of the dark blue pattern I chose. The detail of the light blue lining and logo makes the jacket pop and the pattern is unique compared to most solid colored options. As I mentioned, the jacket is very light, and as someone who will use this as a layer in case of wind/light rain, its perfect to throw in my pack and not worry about weight. The pocket is awesome! I love a good pocket! Its a roomy side pocket that is perfect for my phone and keys and a few cards. Plus, the jacket stuffs right into this pouch, super convenient. I brought this on a few rainy bike rides around town (nothing serious, just biking to run errands for a couple miles here and there); it kept me dry from the (light) rain and acted as good protection from the wind. I don't think its necessarily a replacement for a rain jacket but definitely reliable in a light drizzle. I'm stoked to get out more with this jacket, especially in the unpredictable spring weather.

ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT: I have a small critique when it comes to the fit and sizing of this item. I typically wear a XS or S in most jackets, with medium being way too big. I got a small in this jacket and the small was borderline too small. It fit exactly right when standing still; so it hit right at my wrists, right at above my butt. I tend to like a little looser fit because it allows room for movement. I found that, while biking, the sleeves rode up just a little and the back (when leaning forward) was a bit tight. Not as much of a problem while hiking and running. Its not so ill fitting that I want to return it but it is a bit uncomfortable in those areas. I do have broader shoulders so that could have made a difference in the fit. Just something to take into consideration.

BOTTOM LINE: From climbing to hiking to biking, I know I can use this jacket on those more mild weather days where the weather is nice but a bit too windy for comfort. Just throw this on and you're set! After buying and wearing this jacket a handful of times, I think its a solid wind jacket ( and a light drizzle jacket) to bring on any adventure. Be weary of the sizing, I am always a true XS/S and I would probably recommend sizing up a size, especially if you're between sizes.

    Awesome Piece for Spring!

    Super lightweight

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 115lbs

I used this to stroll along the coast of Hwy 1 on a windy weekend. It kept the wind from entering the jacket despite how thin it was. I have the turquoise color and it runs a bit see through which didn't bother me at all. It's easy to pack and fold, so i'm assuming it would be very useful on summer backpacking trips in the Sierra. This will be most likely my go-to jacket when hiking up due to it being lightweight and won't 'bunch up' when I have my backpack on.

    Essential Packable Wind Block Layer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

As a runner, I need lightweight packable layers. Having a super light windbreaker has become one of the most important to me. People swear by the Patagonia Houdini and this is definitely a backcountry version of that but with better pocket placement in my opinion. I was able to put my phone in my pocket and then tighten the bottom drawstrings and then go on long runs without being distracted by my phone uncomfortable flopping around in my pocket or hitting against my chest and throwing off my rhythm. I have a size small and found it true to size, its packable and lightweight enough that on a warmer run I was able to fold it up and shove it in the back of my sports bra without discomfort or having it jostling around.

    A Minimalist Packer

In an effort to avoid the "heavy baggage" sticker on my luggage, or packing more than a carry on at all for that matter, I have been searching hard for the perfect layers to pack when packing lightly. This is a mega score! Great for light rain, cool weather hikes/runs, or even just a casual jacket.

      What the Shell?

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: Large
      • Height: 5'3"
      • Weight: 145lbs

      Personal Measurements I Find Important:
Shoulder Size: 19" from side of arm to side of arm
      Forearm Size: 11"
General Sweat Level: High (I sweat a lot)
General Heat Level: Low (I get cold very easily)

      Used Product for Hiking, Climbing
      Quick Summary:
      Didn't keep the wind out.

      Review:
I should start off by saying I don't particularly care for these thin light layers. As someone who will almost always get cold, if it's windy I'll just want a jacket.

It took me a while to figure out what this jacket was meant for.
Hiking on a nice day made me way too hot, sitting in a moderate wind tunnel I still could feel the wind, even when I put a long sleeve layer under it.

The fit is a bit weird, I got a Large and it was tight around the back inline with my arm pits, and really don't have any boobs, and when zipped was tight around the chest. Though there is a bit of stretch to it.

I did like how it folded into the pocket to be light and portable, but was missing a carabiner loop if you wanted to carry it on your harness. It also has elastic at the cuffs to keep the sleeves off your hands. It did keep off some light rain though.

      What the Shell?

      Light, Flattering, Effective

      • Familiarity: I've used it several times
      • Fit: True to size
      • Size Bought: Small
      • Height: 5'4"
      • Weight: 135lbs

I really love this jacket as my spring running go-to as well as a summer rainy day essential for mountain biking, hiking, and running. It cuts the edge off of wind but is light and breathable enough to keep me from overheating while active. It’s super comfortable and has really convenient horizontally-oriented pockets that I like for ease of use while running. It’s also cute! :)

A Goat version of the Patagonia Houdini

      • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
      • Fit: Runs small
      • Size Bought: XL
      • Height: 5'5"
      • Weight: 175lbs

This is similar to the tried and true Patagonia Houdini jacket - which is amazingly lightweight and packable. Great as an extra or emergency layer while ski touring, or a wind layer while biking or hiking.

The big differences I see are the vents on this jacket and the fit.

This jacket has vents, nice touch!

The fit is smaller and straighter. It was too narrow in the hips, shoulders, and arms for my shape. I wear an XL, so I don't have room to go up.
