Sable = poop brown

True to size

Bag is serviceable but outer material seems thin. That’s ok if the color was appealing. Instead the beautiful red plum sable color online arrived as a poop brown color.

Awesome Bag!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Fit:
True to size

Took this bag with my to Thailand and back. It was lightweight, comfortable on my back, held a ton of stuff, and kept everything dry. 10/10 would recommend for travel. FYI - It is **slightly** larger than most (if not all) carry-on bag maximum dimensions, but I didn't have mine packed all the way, and could squish it down. Might be an issue if your bag is packed to the max, or you get a stickler of a TSA agent.

Does what its supposed to.

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

The 60L is really the perfect size. Ive already taken it on a few flights and many road trips. This is my go to duffel. I like the material but it does show some wear spots and scratches I cant tell how much they will affect the integrity yet. The backpack straps are a game changer and I love the detach system for them. The waterproof pocket is awesome for wet shoes or trunks. The only reason Im giving it a 4 star instead of 5 is the scratches and wear spots it gets. It adds patina which I like, but if its an integrity issue it could be concerning.

Not a tough bag

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

First, the positives: * Great looking bag * Cheaper than the alternatives * Good design for the compartments and for usability. It's not just a black hole, there's usability designed into the layout of the bag. The negatives: * It simply does not hold up. After one flight, with clothing only (no ski boots or gear with contours or edges) the bag already has multiple wear spots that compromise the bag. This wasn't an international flight with three legs and a 12-hour layover in Siberia, but a single hop, A to B flight so the bag was not put through the wringer. There are two spots where the outer layer has been compromised and it's no longer weather resistant. * I'm no expert, but it looks like it can't take wear from coming into contact with power rollers used by airlines--there are two rub spots that wore through the waterproof outer layer through to the mid-layer. I have a Patagonia bag that contained my skit boots on the same trip (with sharp countours/edges) and that thing is bulletproof. I've travelled everywhere with that bag and years later it looks brand new with no visible signs of wear. In short, the Backcountry bag looks good and is designed thoughtfully, but the quality and durability of the materials is questionable. I'd recommend only to those looking for a light-duty pack that is babied. And if you're looking for that, why buy a rugged gear bag?

Highly recommend

I have been using this duffle for several months now and can't recommend it enough! I love the separate shoe pouch, I use it for dirty clothes when traveling as well. I usually use this when I'm flying, its the perfect carry on bag. You can carry it as a duffel or wear it as a backpack and it fits under the seats and in the overhead bin. It's weather resistant and good value for the price compared to other similar bags.

Perfect!

Received this bag last week and its perfect! Super spacious bag for traveling! It is a little over the weight limit for most airlines carry on item, but its a flexible shell that I think will work for overhead luggage! Excited to take this traveling!

Solid

I take this bag with me everywhere. Nice durable bag. Backpack straps easy to adjust. Can fit a lot of items in it. 60L could be used as a carry on as long as you don't over stuff it.

This thing is huge!!

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

For the price why would you buy Patagonia when you have this thing! It’s huge, the backpack straps were a really awesome added bonus when I found out out how easy they were to take off and put on. They really put thought into this bag to make it last a life time! Well done backcountry

The Mary Poppins Duffel

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer

Super surprised about this pack! This duffel not only fit a weekends worth of clothes for 2 adults and 2 kids, but it also fit our sleeping pads, headlamps, shoes, hammock, and 2 kid sleeping bags and odd and ends, I was pretty surprised at how much I could get in the duffel. Having the duffel come with the backpack option definitely helps soo much when taking it camping, and even as a carry on for traveling. Great durable lasting material, that I feel will last for a good chunk of time. I would definitely recommend this duffel to anyone and everyone!

the perfect duffel

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

i purchased the 40L and 60L. one for day and short domestic trips and the other for entended overseas journeys. being able to access the gear in such an easy way without digging into a backpack and having the side storage for dirty or wet clothes ALONG with being able to just throw the bag on a boat without a worry of rain is so appealing to me. most people that “backpack” around the world aren’t really backpacking, they are taking transport from place to place and these bags are ideal. tough, weather resistant and easy to carry around and throw on a boat, an overhead storage or an uber in colombia. if you can’t fit your stuff in it, you’ve overpacked!

Awesome Duffel

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

I really love this duffel. Compares really well to the Patagonia Black Hole. Extremely roomy to fit all of your gear in, Shoulder straps are available to carry the bag on your back, and the material on the outside keeps moisture and dirt out!

Gave this as a gift and got great reviews. Super durable and spacious, plus the backpack straps are convenient if your hands are full.

Travel Dream

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

Durable, lots of room, easy to carry, extra pockets where you need them but not so many that things get lost. What more could you need in a duffel bag? The backpack straps are still comfortable when fully loaded and it's not so large that you can't carry it fully loaded with the single strap.

Must Have

Familiarity:
I've used it several times

This duffel is perfect for travel and camping. I recently used it road tripping through southern Spain. I was able to pack everything I needed for a two-week trip and it fit in the overhead so I didn't need to check it. The backpack straps make it perfect for walking through the airport. The fabric is super durable and withstands the elements. The side pocket is super deep and there are internal pockets to keep all the little things organized. I love the teal color too!

Amazing Duffel

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

I really love this duffel it is made of durable material and love repping the goat. I used it to fit all my camping gear for a trip (sleeping bag, tent, sleeping pad, and everything else I needed) and it fit easily. I loved that this duffel had a compartment for wet clothes/shoes which is one of my favorite things to have in a duffel to keep things clean and organized. I also really liked having the option to wear the duffel as a backpack to make lugging everything around so much more convenient.

Will a pair of mountain bike shoes fit in the side pocket?

Hey Jon, I like where your head is at! It would depend on the shoe size. I wear a 6.5 and I can fit mine in this pocket. This pocket however would not fit a shoe size much larger than mine. So my answer is no most MTB shoes will not fit in the pocket.

Guys/gals, this looks like a sweet bag for the money, but you are on online retailer and need to provide more comprehensive product photos. All I see here is the same side of the same bag in different colors. Please provide top, bottom, both ends, and multiple interior angles. If you don't have time, send a bag to me and I'll take them for you. Good product photos and descriptions reduce return rates, which saves the environment, time, and money.

Any chance there will be a limestone/grey version of this sometime soon?

Hi Ian - at this time we don't have a limestone/grey version of the 60L coming, but we do have it in the 105L duffel.

What are the biggest differences between this and the 60L Backcountry trekker duffel?

Hey Mike, We made three improvements: 1) The shoulder hardware on the backpack straps changed from plastic to metal 2) we reinforced the stitching on the backpack straps 3) we added a small pull-tab to the velcro handle closure to make it easier to under Other than that it's got the same great features and materials Ben

What are the odds this 60L bag will run into issues as a carry on? Can I pack light and be ok? It’s considerably bigger than the Black Hole 60L. Headed to Central America on Delta during the rainy season and really would love the extra space. I’m skiplagging the flight back so I can’t risk getting it checked on. Plus, I’d much rather have the 60L for future trips, car camping, etc. Help!

Hey Nate, this is technically over the limit for most airlines but it is "squishable" so it will fit in an overhead bin if the bag isn't overstuffed. I would check with your airline to ensure you won't be turned away.

>Rating:

Are the accents on the limestone gray color red or orange?

Hey Amanda, The accents on this duffel are red! Thanks for asking!

>Rating:

Will this fit under the seat on an airplane? I like not worrying about where my carry-on can go...

It might if it's not packed full but not when it's fully stuffed. We'd recommend snagging the 40L pack over this one if you want it to easily fit under your seat.
