    Excellent Rain Jacket

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 185lbs

Backcountry did a great job with this jacket. Pit zips, zippered pockets and a nice hood. For the money it is tough to beat. I am 5'11" and 185lbs. Normally I buy jackets in Medium but based on the other reviews I bought a Large and it fits perfect. Not too snug and not too big. Great jacket!

good fit, looks cool, subpar DWR

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

Picked this up because it was on sale, and I needed a new rain jacket. Got lots of compliments on the camo color, the fit is almost perfect for my build, and it works as advertised to keep you dry. The only drawback was the DWR stopped working after the first day it got soaked. I was fishing in a steady, light rain for 4 hours, and the shell soaked through. Was totally dry on the inside, but was expecting a couple of uses before the DWR failed. Aside from the DWR, please add a drawstring on the hood if this product is redesigned. DWR complaints aside, the money I saved can easily be redistributed to nikwax!

A small that actually fits like a small

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 145lbs

For me top priority is fit. I'm 5'10" 145 29w x 32ins, many mainline rain jackets in S are very baggy and boxy on me, some of them are even now offering XS which just fit poorly on a semi-athletic build. This jacket actually fits like a S. The hood doesn't come down over the eyes but still provides coverage and stays in place. Armholes are slightly high but i prefer to have the pit vents open which frees up the perfect amount of room.

    Sizing

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Small
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I'm 5'7 with a 36" chest and 30-31" waist. I couldn't even acceptably zip the small size; the pits were way too tight and the jacket barely fit over my butt. I would highly recommend sizing up especially if you are in between a size.

    UPDATE:
I ordered the medium size and the jacket fits amazing. I love the cut/look (olive camo) of it and have no idea why it is sized the way it is. I highly suggest going up a size. Speaking to usability, the jacket is great for wind and worked like a normal rain jacket for some of the rain I've been in recently. I have not yet had the chance to test it out in a true rain storm, but overall the price for the amount of quality/usability/looks you get is quite a bargain!

    Small Pits

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 175lbs

Bought this for my husband for Christmas. Loved the jacket but had to return bc the armpits were way too tight. He's not a big fella either - 5 10 and 175. Great looking jacket though!

Solid rain jacket w/ great fit!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 175lbs

This rain jacket is solid. Has a bit of a "form fitting" feel so it hugs the arm pits but does not restrict mobility much. Nice length, too. Wore it with a thick flannel shirt and a baby backpack and enjoyed it.

    Big Fan So far

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 160lbs

Not a super fancy jacket but one that has good coverage on the upper body, good ventilation, and sections of velcro that connects another slip of fabric over the zipper make this a very solid jacket for the wet. Plus that camo just looks so good

    High Quality Product!

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium.
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 145lbs

This is one of the best priced rain jackets with venting out there! It is packed full of nice features including a slightly longer back, large pockets, adjustable hood, vents, and fully sealed seams. It is light enough to bring just in case, offers some serious weather protection with the 2.5 layer membrane, and fits really nice. I am 5'11 and 145 lbs with long arms. The medium fit is great.

    Perfect Rain Jacket

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size

I bought this rain jacket for my fiance and he loves it! He normally wears a large which is what I got him in this jacket and it fits great. He hasn't tested it out in heavy rain yet but for the small rain storms he has worn it in it has worked perfectly.

    Great looking Jacket

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'9"
    • Weight: 150lbs

This rain jacket has a ton of detail and tech features that looks great on. The camo print looks great. Jacket seems to be try to size.

    Love It!

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 180lbs

This is a great rain jacket for hiking, biking, or just walking around town on a rainy day. It's very comfortable and packs down pretty small when you need to stow it in your pack. It runs true to size - I am 6' tall, 180 lbs and the Large fits me well. There is a little extra room in case I need to wear 2 layers underneath.

Some of the features I like are the large hand pockets, underarm vents to dump heat, a little extra length in the back (1-2"), and a DWR coating to bead off rain. The DWR treatment will eventually wear off but you can reapply it in the washing machine with a Nikwax product.

This jacket comes with a lifetime warranty so Backcountry will replace it if any manufacturer defects arise. The Trail Weight Rain Jacket is a great choice for a lightweight windproof and waterproof shell!

    Spiffy Rain Jacket!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 200lbs

A pretty great quality rain jacket. The length of the arms on the Large is great for those of lanky folk who are tired of rolling up sleeves to not look awkward.
Doesn't feel like a plastic bag and breathes nicely, so no worry about the plastic sweats in this one. Fits a little snug in the chest.

    Pretty cool jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: Runs large
    • Size Bought: L
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 170lbs

Really lightweight and comfortable. I tried on the medium first, the jacket fit well other than the trim around the bottom was just a tad too tight. I sized up to the large for some extra torso room and that helped, but the sleeves were just a bit too long for me. Totally manageable just a bit too long. Definitely would suggest trying to out though!

    Awesome Rain Jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'1"
    • Weight: 200lbs

Definitely keeps you dry for hours on hours of rain while out on trail. The weight is nice and its easy to pack away. Sizing wise I would say to go up a size from your normal street wear. I normally wear Large and I had to swap out to an XL because of my big chest and shoulders. The arm length is a nice length where no matter what you are doing you are covered from the rain and the length of the body of the jacket is perfect. Just long enough to cover everything but not too long to where it gets in the way. Awesome rain jacket that will keep you dry and happy for years to come!

    Light and dry

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions

    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"

I love my Backcountry.com Trail Weight Rain Jacket. It is light weight and easily handled everything a spring trip in the Tetons could dish out. The breathability combined with the underarm vents prevent any dampness from building up inside and the cut is long enough to keep you covered while bending or sitting in the canoe. It does tend to run a bit small as I normally wear a small but needed to go medium to get the correct fit. That said, the medium fits everywhere; the sleeves aren't too long and I'm not drowning in it when not worn with any layer underneath. Overall, a great jacket for bringing along on any outing.

A rain jacket that doesn't disappoint

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 135lbs

With how much it rains in Washington, you definitely need to have a jacket by your side at all times. I took it out to the Olympic Peninsula on a rainy day and was very surprised on how well it did keeping the rain out. I also loved how lightweight the jacket was. Plus it doesn't take much space when I throw it into the pack, so I'll be definitely bringing it along once all the hike are open again for the summer.

A rain jacket that doesn't disappoint

Lightweight and gets the job done.

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: XL
    • Height: 6'3"
    • Weight: 180lbs

Will this jacket withstand a torrential downpour for an hour? Unlikely, but it works awesome for those days when there is only a 10% chance of rain and the next thing you know your in a mid summer squall. I'm 6'3, so the XL fit a bit 'boxy', but the drawstring at the bottom helps with this. It's incredibly light and packs down to almost nothing so it can be stashed regardless of whether you 'think' you'll need it or not.

Lightweight and gets the job done.

I use the Backcountry rain slicker primarily in light drizzle and wind, it hasn't failed me yet. The lightweight jacket packs quickly and is an easy addition to day trip or extended overnight backcountry excursions. My first big impression was the form fit and padded zipper. I immediately needed the underarm vents and noticed the high quality zippers and the tapped seams. The dwr needed reapplication after several uses, but most jackets of this style do. Be careful with storage and keep the jacket clean and it will pay dividends in terms of the longevity of the waterproofing. I don't believe I've ever had a trail rain jacket of this quality at this price before. If you have questions just ask!

    Lightweight rain jacket

    Hi,

I generally wear a large in outdoor brands, I.e. a large in my old Patagonia torentshell. Any suggestions for sizing in this jacket? I’m about 5’9”, 195. 44’ chest and a 34/30 pant size.

    Thanks,
    Chris
