I purchased the 2019/2020 design. I liked it so much I waited for a sale and pulled the trigger on another one from the 2020/2021 design. Now that I’ve used it for a while, I still prefer the older design. The 2021 version has a slightly different hood design. The brim is now larger and the neck portion does not go as high as the older design. They took away all of the draw cords from every pocket except the main zipper which was probably a move to save money. The bottom of the jacket is larger from the previous version and now I wish I had a drawstring around my waste to tighten and get the jacket to be closer to my hips. The only semi-positive thing I can say about this new version is the overall material seems to be a tad thicker. Can’t tell if that’s good or bad yet. Got this one on sale and paid $70... I still think that’s too expensive for this jacket.

This fleece hoody is a steal at the discounted price. It is nicely fitted for midlayer and warm though lightweight. I lift at gym so while not huge, I am muscular. I am 6' tall and weigh 204 but I got an XL to fit shoulders and chest. It fits great though the arm length is just a tad long but nothing I can't deal with since it has the thumb holes. Nice stretchy yet strong fabric is great.....

I got this jacket for my dad for Christmas and it was a huge hit! Raging reviews of it's comfort, warmth, and of course the thumb holes. The olive and black color is great and the pockets are perfect!

I enjoyed my first Timpanogos so much, I bought a second. The jacket is somewhat fitted so it looks nice on me (large, 6'1", 192 lbs.) But I fell in love with it in Spain, when hiking up Montserrat. The weather was supposed to be 70's, but snow and sleet ambushed us. My friends were cold, miserable. Due to the Timpanogos, I was not. My well-fitted hood kept my head warm, and kept the sleet from going down my neck. The jacket was water resistant and never wetted through in the sleet. The comfy collar rose to my chin and kept my neck warm. The thumbholds helped keep my hands warm. The material is soft on skin. The jacket is comfy in almost circumstances. I sometimes sleep in it. The zippers work great, and the chest pocket is convenient.

A Good Value Play

This isn't a technical piece and it's not something I would wear out in the backcountry hiking. But it's a well-made, thoughtfully designed mid-weight knock-around fleece. If you see it in the $50 -$70 price range, it's a really solid value. Hard to beat, really. Construction is solid. Material is not top-of-line, but is pretty good.

Appreciate your review. Is there a more technical piece you'd recommend? I'm looking for something for back country hiking and am unable to decide. Thanks!

I went hiking in Colorado for first time and this hoodie was the best thing I brought with me. It was very versatile and handled everything I threw at it. It worked great as an outer layer even when it started to snow heavily unexpectedly. The fabric helped keep the snow off and not let it soak in. I never felt wet while hiking after about an hour in the snow. As far as the size, it is an athletic fit. I am 6'1" 195 lbs and this fit nicely.

Ah generally I only buy Arc’teryx, ortorvox, or mammut. Took a risk here and it’s is now my favorite full zip. Unbelievable quality especially for price. Backcountry did an excellent job on this product. And I never write reviews.

New favorite shirt/jacket to wear in the mountains, for yard work, and even just working from home. I’m 6’2” and about 210 pounds and am quite active. Size XL fits perfect for a layering piece. Just slightly tight around the belly as it’s slim fit, but I prefer that for layering with many mountain activities. Highly recommend this item especially at the current sale price.

Love this super soft and versatile hoodie. Fits great, moderate wind blocker, cozy and good for light jogs, grocery store, or anything else. Love the color (army green), the versatility and the thumb holes. I have recommended it to two friends, each got it and love it as well. Do it.

This hoodie is a great lightweight midlayer. It has a good range of motion, can climb in it without it pulling up. It's been a great layer for skiing and hiking as well. It mostly fits well. I wish the sleeves were a little longer, I can't comfortably utilize the thumb holes so they just mock me and make my wrists cold.

Great lightweight jacket. This is the second Backcountry brand jacket that I purchased. The first one I bought was the Wolverine Cirque Hybrid Insulated Jacket size medium which I have loved enough to try this one too. The Timpanogos fits a bit smaller than the Wolverine so I returned the medium I got for a large. It is good looking, feels great and looks well made. I have been wearing this jacket for about a month now & I liked it enough that I bought another plus one for my wife. I would strongly recommend both jackets. You won’t be disappointed.

I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this jacket. Not only does it fit extremely well, but it has features I didn’t know it had when I bought it....on sale for like $40!!! Best $40 I’ve spent that I can remember. Anyway it has enough material to stand alone during fall in Chicago, but will need to be a base layer for winter. Best part of the jacket besides the price is the thumb holes! I have only worn it to take out the trash (I have to wear certain clothing when I go out) but it’s absolutely amazing.

Love this hoodie. Great for a light bike ride, quick errands and my new go to for WFH life. Living in San Francisco, this cuts the wind and fog well when out and about. have not taken this to Tahoe/COLD weather yet, but very happy with this. Good job of wind cutting, but not a soft shell.

I used this a ton backcountry skiing this year and it was great. I pair this with a light baselayer or t-shirt, some crackers, white cheddar and maybe a light IPA. Its a snug fit but very stretchy. Used this as my only layer while spring skiing over a t-shirt. I like the chest pocket - easy access and pack straps don't get in the way. It looks great- I tend to wear this most days around the house... when goin out... sometimes when sleeping...

I have used this mostly as a casual jacket. It has been on one or two hikes, but I’m worried about tearing it up bc I like it so much for everyday wear. It is a bit form fitting, but that is part of its appeal. It also is a touch longer which I love to help keep overlapping layers keeping everything covered. Once it’s on it hugs like a good base layer. No extra fabric to fold on itself of tuck itself away under a strap. It’s pretty good at keeping you warm without overheating until you start making some serious heat up a hill or something, then it’s time to shed. This is my go to down to about 40F and it always performs well.

I have a Timpanago and I love it for active hikes. Do you have anything that is similar in terms of the technical face and fleece-like inner, but thicker/warmer?

Hey Stephen, It's your gearhead Mike here! I'll email you some suggestions for a thicker warmer tech fleece. Cheers!

XL is my normal jacket size. I'm 6'1" 195lbs. Should i purchase the large with this jacket?? Worried about the sleeves length on this one.

Hey Richard, i would say that if you typically wear an XL then you should order the XL in this jacket. The sleeves are not noted to run extra long.

I find that this fabric drinks water and isn't very wind resistant. Is it possible that the DWR was applied poorly or not at all?

HI Jordan, This style does not have a DWR application, we'll get this corrected.

What's the difference with the Pressure Drop Fleece in terms of warmth and windproofing?

Alan, the Pressure Drop and this Timpanogos Tech are made of the same materials and proportions of Nylon, polyester, and spandex. They will be similar if not the same in terms of windproofing warmth. There are differences in the styles as this one has a hood and one pocket on the chest while the Pressure Drop has two chest pockets and no hood. Consider what you will be using this for and if you need a hood, this is the way to go. If only using as a baselayer, then the Pressure Drop might be what you need!

>Rating:

How would this stack up against something like the OR Ferrosi hoody?

Hey Chuck, They're similar in weight, stretch, and silhouette but their use is slightly different. The Ferrosi is a softshell meant for light wind/weather protection and abrasion resistance but doesn't have any insulation of it's own. The Timpanogos is a hard-faced fleece meant for warmth and lighter wind resistance. You'd most likely wear them in similar climates/temps however they are built for slightly different purposes. The two together could also be a great system where you could weather Timpanogos for warmth while moving and if it gets a little windier you could toss the Ferrosi on top for more weather protection without the loss of mobility. Hope that helps! Ben

>Rating:

Is this jacket windproof at all?

Hi Ryan, This jacket will be more wind resistant than a traditional fleece because it is made with a hard face construction, however it is not a windproof item. Ben
