    Needs work

I really liked the pad because it fits great and holds the bikes well but the straps are a different story. The straps have zero retention ability because the buckles that are used are too big. There is no way to make the pad secure without a bike holding it down, so shuttle runs are impossible. With all the straps tightened down as much as they can be, I could simply pull the pad off the truck. Returned for a refund.

Backcountry accually just sent me an email and are issuing replacement buckles. I had the same problem and was just tying the straps in knots. Update, the new buckles completely solve the tension issue. There is now really nothing not to like about this pad.

    Familiarity:I've used it several times

Let's be real; there's a lot of tailgate pads on the market. With each one having their own strengths and weaknesses, it's hard to know which will be right for you. To a certain extent, it comes down to personal preference. This is the best tailgate pad I've used, plain and simple. It's sturdy, built with the smaller details in mind, durable, and has a few key features that I'm excited about. The notches on the top of the pad keep bikes secure and in place, which is especially nice when you're ripping up a dirt road to a trailhead. I'm also a big fan of the internal pocket where I keep a couple of small tools and a bike lock. It's also pretty clear that it's built to last so I'm looking forward to the many shuttle laps and other bike adventures to come.

Does this pad work for road bikes?

Will this fit a Jeep Gladiator? I know another pad advertised as 54” wide does but the tailgate is also not as tall as others which could be a fit issue. What’s the actual drop length from the top of the tailgate down?

Hi Andrew, The drop length in the front is 20" and the rear is 15". The pad is also designed that you can roll it forwards/backwards as needed for your tailgate/bike combo and then move the securing loops to one of the 3 webbing positions that works best for your setup. Enjoy! Ben
