This is a perfect hoodie for summertime! I took it on my trip to Hawaii. It was great to slip on and off at the beach. It’s lightweight and breathable. Very nice to take from humid hiking to the hot beach; wicks sweat, but still allows the breeze to come through to keep you cool.

First... let me start with the positive: The fabric felt AMAZING. The color and pattern was cool looking... AND it passed the 'girlfriend' test. If she likes what I buy, it's like a WIN-WIN. Then I put the shirt on... It felt like I was putting on a muscle shirt.. and like so many XXL sized from soo many brands, the shoulders and chest were just too small. I'm truly bummed that I'm returning this, because i do like this hoodie. Guess i'll have to stick to my AFTCO hoodies. Again, because like most of these skiing/cycling outfitters.. it seems these sizes are made for tall skinny types (no offense to all of you out there. Glad you're blessed with being naturally tall, narrow shoulders and skinny... that doesn't mean us stocky guys don't go out and enjoy a day or 5 skiing, cycling, mountain biking, etc... and no, I don't want to hear about eating more salads.) So... I gave it a second star just because the shirt had soooo much potential... but just was too small, again, again, again. only other comment... is that i would have liked a thumb sleeve or 'catch'... those are a nice feature. sorry Backcountry....

Hey Joaquin! I'm sorry this shirt didn't fit right for you. I would love to help remedy this situation and will be following-up via email shortly!

Love this hoodie! I got the sunny lime color and haven't particularly noticed any issues with the seams. YMMV, I guess. My only gripe is that I wish the sleeves were a little longer; I can't really use the thumb loops. I have long arms and often wear tall sizes, so probably it runs true to size. It's also not nearly as stretchy as I expected which is mostly a positive since it doesn't deform and look sloppy the way another sun hoodie I have does (that one also has a pocket and it's not good, y'all). Also, the hood is especially good. It's low profile and actually gives you great coverage. I am often using it when riding. I'd love it if it were a hair more breathable, but otherwise it's solid!

I bought this for multiday treks and after just trying this on at home I can see that backcountry quality control missed a beat. Scratchy and uncomfortable even for a guy who wears wool next to his skin all the time. Seams are huge and should have been reversed. Needs to be fixed and this item should not be selling for full price.

I bought the Tahoe hoody a couple months ago and have since taken it on multi-day canyoneering trips, hikes through the desert, and backpacking in the Uintahs, including a scramble up Ostler Peak. It has become my go-to piece for sun-soaked summer adventures. Unlike other reviewers, I have not noticed any issues with the seams. However, I typically wear a light-weight short sleeve underneath. This is the first sun protection apparel I’ve owned, and I haven’t felt that layering it has been materially warmer.

Not for Climbing

I've used the hoodie on several hikes and runs where it performed exceedingly well - the athletic cut/fit helps keep your hood on even in windy conditions. All was well until I wore the hoodie on more technical trails with class 3/4 climbing and the moment I had to raise my arms above my head I immediately began to notice chafing near the armpits due to the comically large seams. The outer seams sit more flush than the inner ones for some strange reason making the hoodie more comfortable to wear inside out - doing so also has the added benefit of hiding the unnecessarily large branding. If you are only running/hiking this is a great hoodie - easily four stars, if not more - however, since they advertise climbing as a use and that is where hoodie failed to perform I have to lower my rating. Probably won't buy a second until the issue with the seams is addressed.

I've

I can confirm the issue with the seems. I don't know what they were thinking making them so big and abrasive. It's like sandpaper on my skin. I'll try your trick of turning it inside out, because it's expensive to ship it back for a refund.

I was given this product by Backcountry, but this review is my personal opinion. I have had this hoodie for around a month now and I have worn it on hot mid-day hikes, all-day fishing excursions, and while out kayaking. It does a great job at protecting you from the sun and I haven't gotten burnt while wearing it. The material is super lightweight and dries quickly if you get it wet. It has a nice amount of stretch to it so that you can easily move while wearing it. The material is also soft against the skin and I haven't had any issues with comfort even when spending 8+ hours out fishing. I also appreciate the shape of the hood because it nicely conforms and protects your neck from the sun. The thumb holes are also a nice addition and they allow for some coverage of the top of your hands. Overall, I have had a great experience wearing the hoodie and it is my go-to on hot sunny days when I want some extra protection from the sun.

I

I got extremely mad with people who were given free items and write reviews about them. Total bias! Would you give someone something if they are going to say anything bad about it? That is also not fair for people who pay full price for this item. You have free stuffs and I have to pay for it? How does that sound? "These honest opinions are my own bla bla bla". Give me a break and get lost.

I don't like lathering myself up with sunscreen numerous times a day and sun hoodies have been my solution to that for a couple years now. You pair one of these things with a baseball hat, some sunglasses and you're impervious to sunlight. This one in particular has one of the best fits I've found, a little loose, but still stretchy and fitted enough to do activities in. This past spring I wore it for all sorts of activities; snowboarding, climbing, mowing the lawn, pretty much any active pursuit outside.

I ordered the Backcountry Tahoe 2 Sun Hoodie - Men's in the mosstone solid color. This hoodie fits perfectly and is ideal for paddle boarding, kayaking, and biking when you don't want a heavy jacket. My wife liked mine so much I had to order her one too!

I have a few other sun hoodies from the well known brands but I liked the Moss Stone color so I decided to give this a try when it was on sale. I’m really impressed with the quality and comfort. It compares favorably my other sun hoodies and I’ll get lots of good use from it. I read some reviews about scratchy seams on the arms but I haven’t experienced that at all. I haven’t worn it in temps above 80 yet, but it performed great when temps were in the mid 70s. It has just the right amount of stretch and the fit is great, not baggy. It looks sharp. As far as sizing, this piece runs true. I’m 6ft and 175lbs and I’m a medium in 95% of outdoor gear. That’s what I ordered and it fits perfectly. Sleeves are spot on and the length is perfect.

For Those Who Hate Sunscreen

I wouldn't say I hate sunscreen. But I find it an annoying task. I am well aware of the risks of not using it. Sunburn and even skin cancer. This is why I switched to long pants while hiking. This same logic is why I love this Tahoe 2 Sun Hoodie. It has a UPF rating of 50+. Meaning I can wear this on bright sunny days and not have to worry about applying sunscreen to my entire arms. Plus because of the hood, which I basically use as a sun hood, I don't need to worry about missing a spot on my neck or ears. The fabric is very smooth, a silk-like texture. I saw a few of the other reviews mentioned it was scratchy. I didn't notice that at all. I found it very comfortable. I am planning on getting another one or two. I would like a lighter color for hot days. I got the blue one (Reef Waters Allover Print), which looks dope but I think a white color would be perfect for hot summer days. What is this great for? hiking, camping, garden work, biking, running, being outside in general. Fit: I am a tall slender guy. I bought a large one since I have a long torso. It fits well. the sleeves are long enough and I can use the thumb loops without ever feeling like I am overstretching it.

Really not sure how this made it past quality checks or maybe there is variance between batches or colors? Sunny lime color is wonderful but the seams along the body and arms are supremely rough and uncomfortable. The thread used is too coarse. Every jacket I own is probably more comfortable to wear on my bare skin than this light weight baselayer.. Which is crazy. Anyways a real shame, the cost, color, fit were all great.

I love a good sun hoodie, have a couple from other brands so thought I'd try this one. Fabric itself is pretty nice, ultra thin, seems awesome for a hot sunny day when you don't want to lather up in sunscreen which is where I love a sun hoodie. Fit is great, I'm 5'9" 175lbs ordered Medium. Length is good and good long arms as well, with useful thumb-holes. However, I'm returning though because the seams, most noticeably in the arms, are strangely scratchy, like they're made of a stiffer material or a stiff thread. This is just uncomfortable enough that I think I'd be annoyed wearing this for a day of activity unless wearing another long sleeve shirt under it, which would kind of negate the usefulness. I'm not usually that sensitive to seams/materials, so this is a weird one for me. I ordered the yellow, maybe other colors don't have the scratchiness issue? Or maybe I had a fluke one, so your mileage may vary. If it were softer and a little more comfortable, I'd be all about it, maybe a future version will solve that problem.

One of my favorites from the Backcountry clothing lineup this year! This hoodie has a superb fit, it’s undeniably durable, and it keeps you nice and cool on those hot days in the sun! I’ve had mine for about two months and I can’t get enough of it. From hanging out in the backyard knocking a few back with friends to climbing up chimneys in the desert, this bad boy has you covered! 11/10 would recommend This sun hoodie will give you up to an extra 10% confidence boost while sending!! *results may very*

I have now used my Sun Hoodie a handful of times. The hood is great and love the thumb loops. The comment about a small pocket for lip balm or a gel would be nice, but doesn't really take away from the function at all. The material is nice, good stretch and never gets in the way. The issue is that they flat lock seams are very rough and noticeable, at times annoying, and rub uncomfortably with sustained movement or when wearing a pack. The went out of their way to sew the side panels to be more comfortable and allow for more freedom of movement, but they way it is sewn was a real let down. The Patagonia tropic sun hoodie is cut more comfortably, the seams are unnoticeable, and its cheaper. It is good, but not my go to.

This is a fantastic sun hoodie, it's lightweight, breathable, and protective! I've used it as a top on a run and a hike, and I plan on using it for pretty much everything this summer! SUP, biking, hiking, running, river running, etc. My only gripe with it is that it doesn't have a pocket or anything! Obviously, this keeps the weight down, but I would appreciate a small zippered pocket on the side. I love the hood and thumb holes.

This years Tahoe 2 Sun Hoodie features a couple fantastic updates to last years top seller. UPF rating has increased to UPF50 this season and the fabric is now more breathable than ever. I have already put it to the test on a handful of Spring ski tours as well as some time on the river. Other key features are the lightweight 3-panel hood and built in thumb holes.

Does anyone know the weight of the medium hoodie? The original design was about 9oz, and it felt heavy when wearing. Im hoping its similar in weight to the OR hoodie, or MH at 1/2 the weight. I noticed a lot of gear in general now on backcountry is missing the weight.

A size Medium weighs approximately 7oz.
