Why We Built The Tabernash GORE-TEX INFINIUM Jogger

We built the Tabernash Jogger to stop winter's chill from biting us on our frigid trail runs. The GORE-TEX INFINIUM membrane provides complete windproof protection while still letting excess heat escape to keep our muscles primed and our microclimate balanced. As we charge up steeps, the performance stretch and articulated knees give our stride free range.

fat-butt silhouette, only half gore-tex

Familiarity:
I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
Size Bought:

1) Extra curve and fabric design on two sides of the butt. Really weird silhouette, showing the butt extra fat and broad. 2)only the front half is gore-tex. the back side is not. Wish I had read the reviews before buying it. Now I regret so much.

They're not supposed to....

In defense of Backcountry and Gore-Tex, these (and most other pants with GORE-TEX INFINIUM, it's supposed to be only on the front panel. I speak from having a pair from Arcteryx and two jackets made of same. NOTE: Please read the tech specs. It says as much, aka "face fabric." DISCLAIMER: I do not work for Backcountry, nor do I have family or friends who work for Backcountry, nor have I been compensated by Backcountry or W.L. Gore. Learn your gear. Good midweight tech joggers

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
Medium

I bought these for trail running in temps below mid-30s. To date I have about a half-dozen runs between 8-13 miles in these. So far these are performing very well and are just what I was looking for in a tech jogger. The Infinium material on the front is excellent for blocking wind and light precipitation, and I haven't reached the saturation point after almost 2 hours running in light/moderate rain. As other reviews have mentioned, the backside is a black midweight stretchy fleece material with a smooth face that works well for warmth but doesn't really block wind/water. Keep in mind, the Infinium is just 3 layer shell material without any insulation, so the balance between the Infinium on the front and the warmer fleece on the back is optimal for high-intensity activities like trail running IMO. The zippered handwarmer pockets are really useful. The zippers on the ankles don't seem to work consistently but they are nice to have for getting on and off. For really cold temps (teens and below) you can layer tights underneath for additional warmth. They grey color is fine, pretty bland but it works. (I wish Backcountry offered this in the Abyss color that was used for the Tabernash Infinium Anorak.) I've found that running downhill the pants can pull down in the front, especially if your thighs are sweaty, but otherwise the fit is great (I'm 6' 175 lb and Medium fits perfectly). Overall highly recommended.

Backcountry nailed it w Gore Infinium

I wear a size large according to the size chart, I was lucky enough to go into my local Backcountry store and try on both a medium and large. If I were racing cross country the medium had enough stretch to work. Very snug (but functional). The large fit perfectly. The temperature has to go below 20° to think about layering once my core temperature comes up exercising. These are wind proof and very well put together. I?m probably going to get the matching top. I purchased these for snowshoeing, fat -biking, and hour-plus walks in the cold. I am very satisfied with these and will probably get another set next year. Somehow they are not too warm once you get inside - I think that?s the gore Infinium magic at work. 4/5 for the largely ornamental zipper and elastic cuff. Either one could have been slightly better or omitted in favor of the other. They do fit in visually with premium modern joggers. Great pant.

Good cold weather gear

I can't coment on their use in wet weather, but have cross country skied in these during very cold, windy weather. They kept me nice and warm (with a baselayer). Two reasons for only 4 stars. 1) the zipper at the leg bottom seems to be of poor quality and is hard to zip. 2) particular to me: the leg bottoms are a little skinnier than I would like. Overall, I like these a lot and look forward to hiking in them

Only the front end is Gore-tex while back isn't. I'd not recommend wearing this pant if you're out in the rain full time. I tested it during California Atmospheric river and my back end was soaking wet. It's good as regular jogger but not worth it at $180 price tag. Also I don't understand why they come up with 1/2 gray 1/2 black for the Basalt. It's hideous

Not water resistant in the back

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:

Weight:

These pants are constructed differently in the front and the back. The front is made of Gore Tex Infinium which is water resistant. The backside is made of stretchy thin fleece which is not water resistant at all. I understand the intention which is to have a wind proof and water resistant front and a more breathable and more stretchy back. But this is not mentioned in the description whatsoever. If it's accurately described I might give a 4 star. But then again, if I knew the pants are not made of Gore Tex Infinium front and back, I would not have bought them. Pro: 1. Cool concept of a hybrid pants. I love technical clothes and I love joggers. So I love joggers with technical features. 2. Feels quite warm and the fit is just right. Not too baggy and not too tight. 3. All the details are very well made. Con: 1. The stitching around the knee feels a bit rough. 2. The backside is just regular fleece and not water resistant at all. It would be good if the back panel can be treated with DWR at least. 3. I paid $143 for these on Cyber Monday and the second day the price goes down to $125.... Not cool Edit: I changed the rating to 4 stars because Backcountry did reach out to me and offered a refund of the price difference. That's great customer service! As for the pants, meh...

Inaccurate - Only Half Gore-Tex

This product is not accurately described. Only the front is Gore-Tex Infinium, the back side is a thin stretch fleece type material with no wind or water resistance, making these pants far less useful. Does Backcountry think the wind never blows from behind? Does it only rain on the front of my thighs? Is it never damp where I sit? The back side is also a different shade of green as a result of using a different fabric. Like other reviewers who ordered recently, extremely disappointed that Backcountry did such a poor job describing these, leaving out absolutely vital information, which, had I known, I would not have ordered these. Also, no back pocket. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Gray pants aren?t gray

Size Bought:
Small
Height:
5' 7"
Weight:

So first, the pants fit great. I?m 5?7 and about 150 but I?ve got short legs. These fit me as good as I could hope for and are very comfy. I haven?t worn them out yet but I?m going on a hike this weekend so we?ll see. The problem is the freakin pictures for the gray pants leave out a pretty glaring issue. The front half of the pants are gray but the entire back half of the pants are black. It?s goofy looking. I know it?s not a fashion contest out on the trail, but it?s disappointing to have paid so much for pants and get something that doesn?t look at all like you expect. Backcountrys return policy is kind of annoying compared to REI and others too so it?s kind of like I?m stuck with them. Hopefully they?ll add more photos for the gray pants. If they don?t and you want the gray ones just know you?ll look like an Oreo with the top taken off.

2 hours during pnw atmospheric river dry

Familiarity:

These are awesome pants?best way I would describe is an ultra water resistant sweatpant/athletic pant?super comfy to lounge in by the fire camping or during an early morning walk to a restroom break. What really impressed me was the water resistance: just returned from a 2 hour long mushroom hike on the Oregon coast during an ?atmospheric river?. Right at the 2 hour mark is when I started to feel the first break in material and not even bad just a slight cool wetness on part of my leg after they were fully saturated hiking in waist deep sword ferns. Extremely impressed with these because I hate typical waterproof rain pants, and other resistant pants don?t do well. Will be ordering a 2nd maybe even 3rd pair?..im a very average large person 6ft tall 220 lbs, 35-36 waist, 32 inseam, large fits very well
