    Silver Fork 750 Down Jacket

Packable, lightweight, and warm, you'll be glad to have Backcountry's Silver Fork 750 Down Jacket in your corner come the coldest winter days. This lofty piece can be worn alone, but also features a regular fit you can layer a shell over if the weather is wet and stormy. A toasty dose of premium goose down offers packable warmth you can pull out when temperatures drop during a belay or ski tour, and it comes with an integrated stuff sack for compact storage while you travel. The down-proof ripstop shell prevents the insulation from poking out, and is treated with a water resistant finish that causes light precipitation to bead up and roll off.

    Awesome all round puffer

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'2"
    • Weight: 180lbs

I was given these by Backcountry for the purpose of testing but the opinions of this review are my own based on my experience

The Silver Fork down jacket is a great balance of outdoor functionality and stylish enough to be worn around town without looking too outdoorsy..
With the 750 fill power yet stuffed feel with a robust liner this jacket really keeps me warm when most sewn through pufflies can give you cold spots. That was a pleasant surprise!
The pocket layout is just what all jackets need while the hand pockets create a sorta "drop" pocket on the inside which is awesome for stashing gloves or sunglass when on the mountain. Often with down hoods I get a bad case of "hood stack" when layer which can pull the collar into your face, this isn't the case with the hood on the Silver Fork!

Pros: The down works well in cool to cold temps as a midlayer and performed well as a stand alone piece over just a baselayer while resort skiing.

Cons: The face fabric, bleeding down at first. its a bit heavy compared to some "UL" style puffies.

All in all its a light weight, warm and good looking jacket thats perfect for all round activities

    great medium weight puffy

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size

This puffy is lightweight and warm. Not super heavy but it keeps me warm enough on the downhill backcountry skiing. I don’t think it has a pocket you can zip it up into, but I don’t use that function anyways.

    Great fitting jacket

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I'm in between a medium and large. The large fits great with a little extra room underneath for a hoodie or think sweatshirt. So far the jacket is great. Replaced my "go-to" mountain hardware jacket I wore for years. Big sleeves to fill!

    Great Jacket, Runs Slim

    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 185lbs

Initial thoughts on the gift - Have worn it two days in a row skiing. 18 - 32 degree temps and only had a tshirt underneath. Haven't been cold yet. Does run a little small (fit for a slimmer person). I would recommend a size up if you are worried about the slim fit.

    Engineered for Awesomeness.

Drooled over this jacket online and so far it has exceeded my expectations. It's so light and comfy that you'll frolic like a young child. Feeling a little chilly... This sleek puff monster will fit under any jacket and if you start to overheat, just stuff her in your pocket and carry on. Although I will say, it regulates heat quite well. The cuffs and hood have elastic boarders which are obviously engineered to keep out snow gremlins on powder days. And yes, it works. The shell material has so far held up great (no ductape patches). If you're my size (medium build with great hair) this should fit great. If you are my height, have a strong jawline and enjoy squatting small school busses, go with the next size up. On a slightly negative note, I have abnormally large carpel bones, certainly inherited from my grandmother. As a result, the cuffs are slightly snug around my wrists.

    Odd fit

    • Fit: Runs small
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 185lbs

I am usually between a medium and a large so I ordered a large. It's too short in the body and the shoulders fit really tight, yet the sleeve length is good - which is usually a problem for me as I have long arms. This is going back.

    Great Fit - Fresh Color

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'10"
    • Weight: 165lbs

I'm very happy with this design from Backcountry. I'm about 5, 10' and the small fits me very well. I have enough room for layering, but it looks form fit and all the seams hit me in the right places. I went for the orange 'fiesta' color. It's bright, but has a sophisticated hue that you don't see a lot in down jackets. Zips and pockets are quality. Hood fits like they designed it for my head.

    Great down jacket!

This is a great value for a very warm , durable down jacket. I got it for my brother for Christmas as he and I love anything camo print. He has remarked several times on how warm it is for how light it is. He also likes the athletic fit. He is a pretty muscular dude , and falls between a medium and large, so I went large so it wouldn’t be tight in the shoulders or chest, and it fits great!

    Great down jacket!

    I'm a fan

I'm biased, because I'm on the team that helped create these, but this is just a great, everyday warm jacket for running errands, walking outside the office here in Park City on snowy days to get coffee, or just going for an easy hike. I've layered this under a 3-layer waterproof shell on a cold ski day as well and it kept me warm and cozy. Bought one for my brother too and he's loving it in the cold and windy Kansas City winter. This has an athletic fit - which looks great on, however it does run slightly small in the shoulder so if you have big shoulders you may need to size up.

    Cozy Down Jacket

The Silver Fork is great. I have had similar down jacket from Patagonia, Outdoor Research, Rab, and Arc'teryx over the years and the Silver Fork fits right in with the others i have had. I have not had any issues with Down migration or shedding which is great and the face fabric is a nice weight and it seems like it will hold up to years of use.

    Very warm

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 155lbs

Gave as a present to my brother. The first thing he commented on was how warm this jacket is. Picked up the size small for him he's 5'4" about 130lbs it fit him pretty well, maybe slightly larger which means he's got room for baselayers.

    So warm!

I bought this puffy in a size large for my boyfriend who is 5'10'', 170 lbs and it looks great. He wears it everywhere and cannot believe how warm it is. On those sunny cold days, he will wear it as an outer layer and if it's freezing/snowy he will wear it as a mid layer with a shell over it.

What is the temperature rating on this jacket?

Temperature ranges on jackets are a bit difficult, as it depends on so many factors (activity, metabolism, even what you ate that morning can play a role) So temperature ranges for jackets, if posted by the company, tend to be very broad. I have a similar jacket, 750 fill, just a bit lighter, and it keeps me warm when active to around 15-20 degrees F, I would expect this one to be similar, I hope this helps!

The jacket claims to have 750 fill power, but what is the fill weight of this jacket? As fill power to fill weight will be the combination for how warm this jacket will be.

    Thanks.

Hey there! You're totally right. The fill weight varies by size of the jacket and our medium has 126g and large has 134g for reference. What size are you planning to order? I can make sure we get you the fill weight.
