Why We Built The Rustler Gore-Tex Stretch Jacket

With the Rustler Jacket, we set out to achieve the pinnacle piece for all-weather protection, equally at home earning turns or riding free refills at the resort. We gave it powerful Gore-Tex protection to keep us dry on the deepest days, and articulated, stretchy construction to make every slash of powder effortless. For those longer days exploring away from the lifts, we graced the Rustler with a chest pocket large enough for a radio, and a unique design that includes a secondary zip at the neck for hood expansion and additional venting. And, not to leave any stone unturned, we insulated the phone pocket so that we'll always have a soundtrack for the ride down.

My Go-To AMAZING Ski Jacket

Familiarity:
I've put it through the wringer
Size Bought:
XS

Weight:

It appears they no longer sell this exact coat. I love it so much that I returned to see if there are more colors. I suspect the newer style is pretty similar. I bought this off-season, and my initial impression was nice but that the arm pits seemed too small. False first impression! I LOVE this coat! Gamer changer. Picture frigid temps, super high wind, blustery conditions. I am all cozy inside my coat. I can't feel the wind. Others are talking about the frigid conditions, and I feel snug as a bug. I am 5' 3", 115 lbs, and wear the XS. It fits perfectly for me. Flattering shape, I can layer up underneath, and I have never felt like the armpits felt tight now that I use it. I love the longer arms, the multiple zippers, etc. Very well thought out coat. I pretty much only wear this coat unless it is a hot day. FYI, once you go Goretex, you won't wear the fluffy little insulated coats. It is all about blocking the wind. This thing is also crazy waterproof. I cannot say enough good things, and I also love the color. Green, gray, depends on the day.

Meant for taller people

Listen to the reviews that say it doesn't fit right! I really wanted to love this jacket and it seems really nice but it's definitely built for people on the taller side. As the other reviews say, it's awkwardly tight in the shoulders and the sleeves are excessively long. The length overall is pretty long, the zipper goes up way too high and there isn't a good way to have it zipped lower. I'm definitely shorter than most but I think even for an average height person this would be an awkward fit.

Great Fitting Jacket for a Tall Gal

I struggle immensely with women's gear because most brands think we're all cute an petite. New flash, buds, some of us are 6 foot vi-queens who play sports and need long sleeves sometimes. This is one of the only women's jackets that I've found that let me move my arms around without flashing some skin. The jacket has served well in wet conditions and layers great when it's cold. The hood even fits around a helmet sized for a big dome! It's amazing. This jacket made me so happy. I hope y'all make more, because I'll buy one in every color.

I?m built just like the model. Got a size small. Every feature about this jacket is perfect. I got the rust color. But now I?m going back to get the black color as well. Too bad they are out of stock in size small, so I?m giving the XS a go.

Tailored to ski, not gender - FINALLY

Finally a jacket that hits all the marks for a fit that caters to movement and function, rather than the stereotype of a short, fitted cut for ladies. Covers your bum on the cold days, lots of room for movement, layers and BC gear in the backcountry. Love it.

Great resort jacket, bulky touring coat

Familiarity:

This is a sweet coat. Solid construction, and I personally thought the fit was fine: yes long arms but thats a plus for me, a little extra fabric in chest but not dramatic, coat still looks great on. A medium fit over my shoulders and butt fine (my shoulders 19", hips 39"). If I was going to use it primarily at the resort and sometimes backcountry it would have been perfect. Unfortunately, I was looking for a coat to use touring and occasionally at the resort. For touring it feels a little bulky due to its thick, durable fabric and long fit. It does not pack down very small.

Lots of things going on. I love the mask feature, but I would like the choice of not having it over my face.

Odd fit

I wanted this jacket to work b/c it seemed well constructed with nice fabric, but the arms were too long (and weirdly baggy in your upper arm) and just overall didn?t have a great fit. Hopefully Backcountry can improve upon this in future iterations!

Love all the specs of the jacket. However odd fit: Arms too long, and big in shoulders. Fit is ok in the mid torso and hips. Feel sad that it didn?t fit.

magnets!!!

The Rustler jacket covers the basics and has several key features that sets it apart from other touring shells. There are asymmetrical zippers that open the collar for a comfort fit with the added bonus of laser cut holes for venting. I also there are small hidden MAGNETS so you can pull the collar off your face and secure it to the side. That being said, the collar is lined with a softer material so it still feels comfortable when you're all zipped up. Along with the usual pockets, there is a very handy side arm pocket that holds small items like snacks, chapstick, and lift passes. Easy to access and out of the way. Personally, I really enjoy longer jackets partially for aesthetic, but also for functional use as it keeps you well protected from the elements. The longer length, plus the gore-tex, makes this jacket super durable and dry. I've brought it through some tight and gnarly trees and bushes on touring descents and to my surprise I didn't find a single tear. I agree with other comments that the arms seem to be a big long in length, but that hasn't bothered me at all. I don't find it gets in the way on tours or downhill skiing, and actually helps keep snow from sneaking into that space between cuff and glove. My only real complaint is that sometimes I think I'm grabbing the venting zipper when I actually am grabbing that upper chest pocket zipper (and vice versa). They're quite close together so it's easy to mistake the two if you're not looking.
