I purchased this flannel in red/ochre through Backcountry subsidiary, Steep and Cheap. The reviews there and here are the same, identically, so I will post this here. First, the pros: like other reviewers, I have to note the color way and fabric feel are stellar. Really quality material and attention to unique colors. I bought this because I could not find a fall flannel that could match the color way I wanted with the warmth of a flannel. Cons: like all reviewers said, the sizing is really weird. I am lucky I had a ton of other reviews to read. Not just for this shirt, but other Backcountry shirts as well. I really scoured the reviews of other flannels, Tees, jackets, etc in the Backcountry° Brand, and it is safe to say Backcountry clothes just run small. So I ordered up, and it worked. I wear a medium-standard (not slim) fit in brands like Eddie Bauer, prAna, L. L. Bean, Patagonia, Carhartt, Filson, Pendleton and others. I a°m an XL in this Backcountry shirt. Which, whatever. As long as it fits, and it does, with one caveat: the neck is huge. I read that in another review of a Backcountry shirt, and it is true. It is really not that noticeable, though, except it can be a bit breezy on the back of the neck on a brisk day. All and all, I think if Backcountry dials in sizing, they wi°ll be right up there with other great brands. I?m definitely keeping this flannel around.

Runs very small

- Large

I loved the feel of this shirt, it?s very soft and seemed well made. That being said, the sizing is off. I normally wear a large in everything, so that?s what I ordered. It fits way too tight in the arms and chest. I returned it because I would never have worn it based on how tight it was. I definitely recommend going a size up from what you usually wear.

Odd fit
- Familiarity:

The first problem is the pricing on this website. Prices fluctuate several times during a given day. For example, I paid $80 for this, and later it was on sale for $48. More relevant here is the fit of this shirt. It's very uncomfortable and runs small. A large is not large. It's too short in the torso (I'm an average 6'0, 180lb dude), but the biggest issue is the sleeves. They're way too tight to roll up comfortably. My forearms are average. Even without a shirt underneath, the rolled up sleeves cut off my circulation. I'm not sure a bigger size would help that issue; it's just poorly made. I got the gargoyle color which I love on the hanger and hate on my body. Hugely disappointed.

Hi, this is James and I work on the Backcountry brand product development team. I am writing this review today to help guide your sizing decision on this new product. This great top for those cold Fall and Winter days. The fabric for the Plaid Fendler is soft yet tough and made to last. I like to wear this with a baselayer or undershirt and would suggest going up a size to get the fit you like. I'm 6' 175 and opt for the Large size.
