    Matilda Baselayer Bottom

Made from an innovative blend of wool and nylon, the Backcountry Matilda Baselayer Bottom is an ideal base for active pursuits on snowy winter days. Nuyarn wraps merino wool around a nylon core, giving you soft next-to-skin comfort that's warm, durable, and layers easily beneath your ski pants. And while thermal comfort might be the name of the game, the fabric is also moisture-wicking and odor-resistant, so you can play harder and stay out longer.

    See through!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: x-small
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 115lbs

These bottoms are warm but thin and see-through. I am 5'5" 115lbs and ordered an extra small burgundy or "tawny port" color and my underwear color is visible through the pants. They are true to size, just see through. Although I understand that this is a base layer, I would still expect that after a long day skiing I can take off my ski pants and wear my base layer in the car ride home without having to change into another set of pants.

    Backcountry Matilda Baselayer Bottom

    • Familiarity: I returned this product before using it

The second I put these on the waistband elastic scrunched up and got all twisted making them really uncomfortable to wear. I straightened it out and it happened again right away. Overall the fit is nice, but the pant is a bit itchy and really thin making them see through.

    Great Baselayers

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Height: 6'0"
    • Weight: 210lbs

My wife loves the color of these base layers. Its her first pair of merino wool base layers and she was skeptical that it would be itchy but they have felt very comfortable and very warm. They are a bit see-through so you can't wear them on their own but perfect for skiing.

    Needs a Better Waistband

    • Familiarity: I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'11"
    • Weight: 155lbs

The waistband is not secured within the fabric so it flips a lot and can get uncomfortable by the end of the day. They do have a long leg, I’m 511 and fit perfect.

    Waistband rolled up!

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Extra small
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 110lbs

I liked the color, and it fit snug (which is usually how I like my long underwear), but it was tight around the seam of the lower leg design, which was uncomfortable against my skin. Also, the most disappointing part of the pants was the elastic in the waistband; it literally rolled in half under the casing after I tried them on. I was shocked about this. A well made waistband has stitched down elastic, so it does not move. These definitely need a makeover.

    They're Alright

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'4"
    • Weight: 160lbs

I really like the look of these, but they do seem a little thin although they are keeping me warm just fine. I wear them cross country skiing in Minnesota. I bought a Medium as I normally do and think they fit perfectly. One thing I really don't like though is how the seam comes right up the crotch. Like, WTF. I don't want my pants all up in my business like that. I once bought underwear that did the same thing. So uncomfortable. It should be illegal. Get some ladies helping you design your stuff Backcountry! I'm not really that mad about it, but just sayin.

    Great baselayer for touring

    • Familiarity: I've put it through the wringer
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Mefium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I love this baselayer set. They are a great midweight set, not bulky, but still provide warmth while breathing well. They are soft with zero itch factor .

    My new fav baselayer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: M
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 140lbs

I am in love with the Matilda baselayer set. I bought these in the turquoise color and couldn't be happier with them. They're really minimal to layer but have maximum warmth, these are my new go-to for sure.

    Great Baselayer

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Large
    • Height: 5'8"
    • Weight: 155lbs

I love these pants. I love the color combo. I'm 5'8' and have a long torso and shorter legs and I love how the waist comes up high so you aren't constantly pulling them up. I wore these hiking up Grandeur Peak in December on a 35 degree day and I was very surprised by how warm these are. I wore these with a fleece pant over them and I was hot! I sweat a ton too and these dry insanely fast and are truly odor resistant. They are thin, but that's what I want when I layer up. I'm happy to have these in my gear closet.

    Great quality & fit!

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size

Love the quality and fit of these bottoms! They are a perfect layer for warmth, though a little thin to wear alone. I bought the turq print, and love all of the details!

    Perfect for ski touring

    • Familiarity: I've used it several times
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: Medium
    • Height: 5'6"
    • Weight: 135lbs

I have a tendency to get super warm while ski touring, so I really appreciate a thin and breathable, yet durable base layer. These bottoms provide just that. I'd definitely purchase a second pair!

    Very thin

    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: small
    • Height: 5'7"
    • Weight: 130lbs

Super cute and true to size, however they're extremely thin and see through. Would be great for an extra layer, but not by itself.

    A LOT thinner than expected

    • Familiarity: I've used it once or twice and have initial impressions
    • Fit: True to size
    • Size Bought: medium
    • Height: 5'5"
    • Weight: 125lbs

This review is based on comparing these bottoms to the smartwool 150 bottoms. These are a lot thinner materiel, i'm not sure how warm they will be while outside. They are also super see through, so wear them under other clothes only. I like the waistband better than the smartwool 150 bottoms, its a bit thicker and does not dig in as much, but overall I do not think they are worth it for the price.
