I live in an area that is so cold that we call base layers long underwear because it is exactly that. I wake up and put on my base layers every day just like underwear. So Ive tried them all. Here is how I rate them. Backcountry Merino wool base layers are my number one overall choice for warmth, looks, pilling and wear, no-ich, no-smell, and still looking great wash after wash. A close second is Kari Traa 100% wool baselayers they are super beautiful however the embroidered label on the leg starts to ich during hiking. They are just slightly less warm but are equal for all other areas. The original Smartwool Merino wool comes in third but they are terribly plain to look at and dont launder quite as well. I wont repurchase the Smartwool Intra-knit version again as it is unforgiving on the skin particularly knees and elbows and pills after washing. They can become sweaty and not very warm especially at altitude. Terramar polyester baselayers cause unwanted and problematic moisture in your private areas, dont buy them. Terramar wool baselayers are warm but very itchy. Just as a side note I tend to cold wash and line dry my baselayers.

Love the fit, the colors and the comfort. Both sporty and could wear out and look very pulled together.

Runs a little small, but perfect otherwise. Warm but breathable, wicks away sweat like a champ. I wear it as my base layer for skiing, and it’s perfect for aprés as well. Highly recommend.

I am a small in everything - 5'6", 120 pounds, but this S, feels like an XS, if they had the M, I would exchange for that. It is very soft. I just didn't like how tight it looked. It could be the girls, I am busty, should have sized up.

This baselayer is PERFECT. Great for layering at the mountain or wearing as performance top for cold weather running, hiking or biking. The quality, construction and fit is amazing and the merino is a soft next to skin feel with absolutely no itch factor! Highly recommend this baselayer!

Love this thing! Went on a cold mtb ride and was very comfortable with it as its own layer. Also tried it out on the ski hill and kept me very warm in frigid (19degrees) weather. On top of that, it feels very well made and seems like it will be durable. I got the medium and it fits perfectly and on top of it, is very flattering! Bravo, Backcountry!
