Why We Built The Backcountry Hybrid Grid Fleece Pullover

In the backcountry, fun and safety are our top priorities, but comfort is a close competitor, so we created the Hybrid Grid Fleece Pullover for best-of-both-worlds-style thermal management. This techy midlayer uses two fleece types: a cozy polar fleece that traps heat at the core in chilly conditions and a grid fleece that wicks moisture and allows airflow on our most intense hikes. We recently updated this design with action-ready fit improvements and a new vertical half-zip that improve our performance by enhancing comfort and mobility on the mountain.

Purchased for cold motorcycle riding

Female review: A friend reviewed and suggested under Harley gear. It isn't bulky, which will be a nice change from a hoodie that I wear. Although I am a woman, I purchased the men's because I prefer that fit (and it was on sale!). Very happy with the purchase. They say the arms are long, and they are a bit long for me, but as others say, it is nice that they actually are long enough to use the thumb holes and it isn't an issue under my jacket.

Just what I hoped it would be

Familiarity:

Very good for cool weather running and hiking. A little heavier than I expected but not too heavy for the insulation it provides. Love that the sleeves are long enough to truly use the thumb loops. Hood is well designed. Would recommend as a warm mid-layer in winter or as an outer layer for cool dry days.

First impresions, I like this product

Familiarity:

medium

I was looking for a fleece that had a hood that wouldn't impact peripheral vision and my first impression is that this will work great. I am 5'7, 170 and this fits me like the person in the pictures on the website or a trim medium. I don't think that I would be able to wear anything under it except for possibly a very light base layer such as a 32 degrees light weight base layer. As far as the sleave length goes, they are a little long for someone my height, 1.5 to 2 inches longer than ideal, but noting I can't work with. Weight size the material is very similar to an REI medium weight base layer.

Hybrid Grid fleece pullover.

Familiarity:
I've used it several times
Size Bought:
Medium

Was looking to use it over a merino wool base layer but the fit is quite snug for a medium. Instead used it as the base layer with merino over it. It performed quite well. Kept me warm on those cold East Coast morning skiing resort. Haven't had a chance to try it for Backcountry Tours yet but from my first few impressions using it in fluctuating weather it should do fine.

Great Lightweight Fleece

Familiarity:

This is a nice lightweight fleece pullover. Good slightly lean cut. I will respectfully disagree with the other reviewers as the arms are actually perfect on this. Look at the images. It is designed to be worn with the thumb loops. To do the the sleeves need to be longer. These do this quite well and are not too long all. Too many shirts just put holes in the wrist. This one actually gets you have to make the sleeve longer first. For reference I am 6'4" at 180 pounds and wear a 16x35 shirt and 41L jacket. I bought this in size Large. It fits great. Arms are perfect. Body is good without being too tight or baggy. The neck has a little extra fabric when the good is up but it has not been a performance issue . Note the fleece is actually a hybrid of a grid fleece and a knit with a soft velour backing. It's thinner than something like an R1 hoody. I having been using it for riding my MTB in cold 40 degrees weather and it is great. The hood fits nice under my helmet. The sleeves close the gap between my wind shell and gloves. I keep just warm enough without overheating. The orange color is awesome! Like it so much I bought a second.

Nice pullover, absurdly long sleeves

The quality of this garment is great. The color, sewing/seams, and look are all great. However, the sleeves are just impossibly long. Easily 3" longer than they ought to be and that unfortunately makes the fit through the arms not very comfortable. The shoulders, chest and length feel appropriate for a men's medium, it's just the sleeves that are way off. Shorten up the sleeves and this is a 5-star item.

Absolutely love this! Paired with a merino base layer and Gore shell creates the perfect layering combo for every ski environment. The hood shape is perfect for going under a helmet and stays in place very well while on the skin track. The sleeve length with thumb hole is awesome. Works great on the uphill and helps layer under a shell.
