I just got this coat and am excited to wear it to my son’s hockey games all winter. Love the sophisticated, modern clean lines compared to the big ballooned puffy coats with fur hoods. Plus it’s waterproof, light yet warm, and has tons of pockets. Love the adjustable hood. Contrary to other reviews, I felt it ran a little large on the bottom. I’m 5’3” and 120lbs, ordered the S. The top half feels good — room for layers without feeling bulky, but the bottom flares out a tiny bit more than I would have liked. Still, would not go smaller bc the top might be constricting. Loving the navy color too!

Great everyday parka

This seems like just about the best value parka you can get. I got this last year and wore it all winter. This has nice features, and is awesome for wet, gross days. Pockets for days - and the giant pockets in the front can fit a LOT of things. The hood is a little large but that means it completely covers me. Nice length, looks good. Agree with a previous reviewer that the main downside is the lack of a hangtab; it's a bit annoying to hang off the hood; maybe I'll sew one in eventually. I have not had any problems with the zipper yet - double zip works well. I was hoping it would be a little warmer - it's been good for freezing temps (~30 F) but maybe not way below, at least not for long periods of time. I'm 32-26-36 and got an XS, seems true to size, still has room for a thick sweater.

Great for cold weather

I bought this coat last winter when it was on clearance. I'm so glad that I did! We live in northern Minnesota and winters are long and very cold. This has become my go-to coat for wearing when I walk the dog, ice fishing, snowblowing, ice skating, skiing, etc. My only complaint is at the Gore-Tex is a little loud and if I have my hood up I can't hear people talking very well if they are walking next to me. This is easily managed by wearing a hat instead. This coat is very warm and keeps you dry in all kinds of weather.

I purchased this coat for my partner in the summer when it was discounted. I was a little nervous about buying Backcountry's store brand, but this jacket has exceeded all expectations. It is waterproof, warm, and stylish. My wife absolutely loves it. I followed other reviewers and bought up 1 size and it is a perfect fit. Our only complaint about the coat is that it lacks a hanging tab, making it very hard to hang on a wall hook.

I moved to Minnesota 1.5 years ago, and went through my first winter without a properly fitting coat. I bought this one on sale last summer and have held off reviewing until I felt I'd had time to really experience it. Overall, I'm very happy with the coat. I was worried it wouldn't be warm enough when it arrived because it is so thin compared to typical winter coats, but it has done a good job so far this year. I've worn this coat down to a "feels like" temp of -15 F for short walks, and have been (relatively) comfortable. I'm also pleased that this coat is waterproof. The only sticking point is that the zipper isn't the best. It sometimes gets stuck at the bottom, so can be difficult to zip up or unzip. you'd think that for the price you could get a fully functional zipper, but for me it's worth it given how good the rest of the coat is. I think this runs true to size. I'm 5'2, around 125lbs, and typically wear a size 4-6. I ordered my usual small, and it fits well. There's room for a bit of layering underneath, but not too loose that cold air can get in.

Zipper broken on arrival
Was looking forward to this jacket but the zipper was stuck at the bottom. For this price there should be frontal snaps as well as a functioning double zipper. I didn't even bother trying it on.

My daughter is off to university in Minnesota so we were looking for a very warm, waterproof coat. She does not care for the puffy coat look which limited our options. Nor was she looking to layer a lot when going from extreme cold walking across campus into warm classrooms or dorms. Layers would create a lot of material to juggle. This coat fits the bill perfectly. The "puffiness" is hidden under the Goretex outer, it is long to cover her when it gets really cold, the hood is very deep to hide from extreme winds and the waterproof Goretex is perfect for snowstorms. She loves the thumb holes to help keep the sleeves from riding up. She is 5'8, 125 lbs but with really broad shoulders and long arms. Based on reviews we bought both the L and XL. The L fits great. Now we wait for winter to see if it is as warm as we think it will be.

Runs big but such a nice coat!

I am 4' 10" and very petite but had to get a size M just for it to fit around my chest and that was tight, which made the sleeves, shoulders, and length way too long. I really with this was made in petite sizes because this is such a wonderful coat, I was very disappointed I had to return it. I have said this runs small because I can't imagine someone needing a coat at that length and sleeve size to be so small around the body.

I usually wear a 3/4 length down or fleece lined lightweight jacket. I have an older jacket I use for working in snow, but it feels bulky on me in recent years. I wanted a jacket that looks nice, will support beach and trail walks, mountain adventures, and be in my car or on my back for adventures. This arrived last night and I tried it on. It has ample room, I wear a S or M in Patagonia, Lowle, Prana, and I ordered the L in this jacket based on the reviews. It fits perfect. I am 5'3", 160 about, depending on the season. I will be able to layer. It has room, and I am excited for fall. Really good value on sale.

I felt very constricted. Large is the size I get for all tops and jackets but I couldn?t bend my arms comfortably and it really brought out my love handles °\_(?)_/° I would go up one size.

I see that in the specs it?s listed at 800 fill. What is the fill weight? Meaning, how many ounces of down fill in this jacket?
