Why We Built The Gore-Tex Down Parka
We're all about exploring the local mountain town after a day of skiing, and for that we need solid winter protection. We made sure that this casual parka combines the best of two worlds, with lightweight lofty down to ward off winter's chillier weather, and reliable waterproof protection in case it snows in the city. Soft baffling lines the interior, keeping valuable body warmth close at hand, and the Gore-Tex membrane pairs nicely with fully sealed seams to guarantee that we stay dry. We gave the jacket a relaxed fit for urban style, and it features a longer length that's much appreciated when spending an extended time on foot.

This jacket is super nice. Great construction, great materials. The jacket does have a lot of great features. I particularly like the longer length, double zipper, wrist gaiters, snap closure storm flap, lots of very functional pockets, and of course tried and true Gore Tex and warm, soft, fluffy down filling. I like the jacket a lot, but it would be perfect with two improvements. First, the jacket does fit a bit large. This is great for days you need to layer, but I wish it had an adjustable waist cinch to snug up the waist and help keep the breeze out on days you don’t need multiple layers. Also, the hood is huge. It does have adjustability from the back, but I wish it also had vertical hood adjustability in the front to cinch the hood opening and, again, help to better keep the breeze out.

The collar of the actual jacket is so high up that when the jacket isn't fully zipped up it gets in the way of your face/vision. The feel and material of the jacket is great but it just fit too loose for my liking.

Too Small

After reading a review here saying that the parka is on the larger size I ordered an XXL. To my surprise when I tried it on it was too small! I have other jackets and parkas in XXL that fit very well. I am also quite annoyed with Backcountry for being so slow in returning my funds. I bougth it on one of those pay in 4 offers and even though Backcountry received the parka back on Monday 7th, they have still not issued the return and now the company that offered pay in 4 charged me for the second payment. I will never buy a thing again from this store.

My son picked the rosin-colored jacket and we were disappointed that it is actually more of an Army green. I returned the jacket and am now waiting for the blue one. It seems like a nice coat otherwise.

It's not a thick expedition style parka like a Canada Goose or NorthFace McMurdo. There simply isn't enough down to protect you in dangerous temperatures. It's a nice jacket to walk around town, hang out in cold temps and to wait for trains and such. In truly cold temps, say, below 0 f, you need an actual belay jacket or expedition style parka with serious amount of down. By that time, you don't need Gore-Tex because you won't get rain. On the medium size, the sleeves extended down to my knuckles and the coat covered my arse and extended down additional 3 inches. The fabric is just a bit noisy but not crazy noisy like a technical jacket. All the features like the zippers, snap buttons, pockets and sewing are first rate. However, the hood could have used a stiffer material on the forehead to stabilise the position in case you do run into some kind of freezing rain while waiting for your Uber. I'm going to gift this but, if, next year, Backcountry makes another gear with even more down that is bomb proof, I'll consider getting one myself.

I did a lot of research before purchasing this coat for my son. A gearhead recommended it to me, and I can say that he was absolutely right. I was a bit hesitant because we usually buy NorthFace or Patagonia jackets, but this is an awesome coat and is a great deal for the money! Very warm, waterproof, and not bulky. Highly recommend!

This is a great low-key but high-quality piece for office/commute. A wool coat is not warm enough for sub 0 degree here in DC with wind. This parka is prefect. There's lots of rain recently, Gore-Tex should make me dry and warm. I think the quality exceeds C-Goose. I don't like big icons and it's unnecessary for office. Highly Recommended. The size runs big.

Warmth and style
- Familiarity:
- I gave it as a gift but have feedback to share

This is a great parka for unsurpassed warmth. It has a better fit for the longer armed guys and room enough for the sweater weather. For sure one I would recommend for the guy looking for something to beat a frosty, windy day with style.

This jacket feels a lot more expensive than what it is priced at. The exterior fabric feels very durable and has kept me dry despite walking around in blowing, wet snow. It's also SUPER warm - great for cold Utah mornings lately, and the interior fabric is nice and soft. Best thing about it is the high collar - i usually prefer to wear a beanie instead of a hood and the way the collar sits is high enough to make it so I don't need the hood much.

Size down a size, I normally wear an XL jacket and the large was big enough to layer under and worked great. this parka is next level with great warmth and pockets. Not too bulky and has a great urban appeal.
